SweetHeat Miami 2011 features pool parties, fundraising, fashion

The front page of the SweetHeat Miami 2011 website is simple. Five facts and two hotter-than-Florida type models giving you the “I like girls in bikinis so come hither” stare down. I admit, it was really the front page that made me want to comb over the events and not leave any one of them until the lights come on.

Founded in 2008 by South Beach-centric DJ Dimples, the crowd is different from The Dinah or AquaGirl because it is the only continuous party that caters to African American and Hispanic LGBT women. Devoted to booking queer talent, the weekend is an eye-opening event for over 8,000 ladies from all over the world. The event list boasts pool parties hosted by KING magazine model Bubbles (who is also promoting her debut novel, Playground). Radio personality and recent Tyra show makeover maven B. Scott will be cutting up with Maybach Music rising star Teedra Moses at the highly anticipated White Party.

Each party will have an amazing soundtrack provided by Martina McFly, fresh off the release of her mixtape “Haute & Heavy.” DJ AAsha Adore, the tour DJ for Baltimore superstar and M.I.A. protégé Ryeisha “Rye-Rye” Berrain, will be sounding off with dubstep and European influences. Also spinning will be the international premier female DJ Mary Mac, with DJ Pauze bringing full Brooklynite swag while never forgetting her Belizean roots.

There will be open mics, an AIDS fundraising walk, fashion shows and even a ball at which various Houses will compete for prizes in outrageous categories like Nail Flair, Sex Siren and Hottest Transman. All of these events will make SweetHeat an unparalleled women’s weekend not to be missed.

SweetHeat kicks off this weekend, May 12-15, in South Beach. For more information check out the MySpace page, Twitter page or Facebook page for the event.
