Out soccer star Joanna Lohman recently gave a TEDX talk about the challenges and triumphs she’s encountered along the way to a successful career as a professional athlete. Lohman is a defensive midfielder for the Boston Breakers, where she plays alongside her fiancée Lianne Sanderson, a striker for the team. They are one of the only out LGBTQ couples in professional sports.
Lohman doesn’t sugar coat the realities of being a professional women’s soccer player, but despite is all, she continues to have an undying passion for the sport. Her honest speech about the high and low moments of her decade plus career in professional soccer is both heartbreaking and inspiring.
