Sigourney Weaver is ready for an alien-free “Alien”

What would Alien 5 be without aliens? Honestly, I could care less, as long as Sigourney Weaver has the same costume designer she had in the other films.

Although I think Weaver could never be, um, overexposed, Weaver herself thinks that fans may be tired of Alien‘s aliens. In a recent interview with the MTV Movies blog, she said that she and Ridley Scott, director of Alien, have talked about the possibility of returning to the franchise for a story focused on main character Ellen Ripley.

“There’s definitely uncharted territory for Ripley,” she said. “Both [Ridley and I] feel a kind of commitment to that woman.” So do I, Sigourney; so do I.

The commitment doesn’t extend, however, to the creature that gave Ripley so much trouble over the years. “We’d have to go back to the drawing board on [the alien],” she said. “Ridley said that right away when we first talked about [a fifth film].”

Weaver went on to say that she and Scott were exploring other kinds of science-fiction stories that Ripley could be involved in. She didn’t mention any specific ideas, but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate.

I suggest Alien Twilight, in which Ripley time travels to the 1800s and saves Edward’s life before Carlisle turns him into a vampire. When she returns to the present day, teenage girls are reading Jane Austen.

Or, perhaps, Alien Terminator. It could feature the arms, the main characters of Alien and both versions of Terminator: Sigourney Weaver, Linda Hamilton and Lena Headey.

They don’t even have to fight anyone. I’d pay just to watch them work out.

Are you ready for an alien-free Alien film? What sci-fi scenario should Ripley inhabit next?
