Aww, the show is coming into
just curious
I second that...
^.^
lol, the sound startled me... I turned it up because it sounded so low in the beginning and then suddenly someone else says something and woa... who turned up their mike? :P And I feel kind of dizzy with the camera moving around so much and all the headshots...
Anyway, the new background's great (fits with the rest of the site) & there's more room! Yay :)
I loved the "Jim & Jane" part... it was so funny XD I think it's interesting to hear people talk about things like bisexuality anyway... pro discussions! :)

ahhh, i know!! she is just
sound issues
The sound was a little odd, with the people coming from the left, people coming from the right, and while this time it was much easier to understand when you were all talking simultaneously, not everyone was at the same audio level, especially Tif was a little low.
Also, since Tif was sitting on the left, it would have been better if her sound actually came from the left and not from the right.
Making fun of Lauren
lol, that'd be an easy
lol, that'd be an easy target :)

"The only real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes"
Lauren is hot even if she's
Lauren is hot even if she's not wearing that black jacket and even if she just says a few sentences in whole show LOL As long as she's gonna sit there and smile- i'm gonna whatch it LOL
P.S. i really like the whole show and it's getting better and better w/ every single episode. keep that way girls!

Always Looking Forward to It
I too am becoming a big fan of this segment. I agree that the set could be a bit better, if only because the hosts don't look comfortable all the time. But, details, details...
Sarah, you rock. I love your mind and your humor. I really feel like you get it...all of it! I totally agree with you on the topic of bisexuality. I used to be a bit anti-bisexuals myself, but I think that was directed at the dubious, bi-curious factor. But bisexuals are our sisters. And besides, I think most people are a little bit bisexual anyway. Maybe not exactly 50/50 but if it's 80/20 (i.e. 80% gay, 20% straight), or even 90/10, I think it's bisexuality and we shouldn't be ashamed. Not that we should altogether discard the gay or lesbian identities but I do believe in the idea of fluidity.
I love this website. Thank you for it.
love the show
I simply love this talk show. It's a great idea having guest on the show every week.
My god, Staceyann is loud! But I love her on the show.
Btw, Chagmion is hot!
Let Lauren Speak
Enjoying the show ladies
I'm wondering how the guests are chosen for the show. Availability I'm sure is a big part of it. I've noticed that the guests come from all avenues of the entertainment industry.
I can also see where this show could really, really take off into something big if the right things were in place. (Listen to me LOGO!) I definitely agree with "Lesbian View" comment, because you know gay women are never short on opinions! And we're pretty adamant too...
Video stops
very interesting
umm...could chagmione BE any more stunning? face=impeccable. i loved this episode. i have problems with the whole lesbian as a political identity shtick. i'm glad staceyann admitted that her issues with bisexuality were based on her insecurities (love that lady). i can't tolerate bi-phobia, people need to stop projecting their insecurities on them, because that is all it is. mary cheney, and her father=whatever. and what is up with that ugly football helmet she calls hair? she's so bland. tif of triple creme was articulate, cool, and cute. i like what she had to say about the trans visibility on l-word being negated by pandering to the "average" straight man in ads. and i am always a proponent of people not taking themselves too seriously. i can't say that i totally get the lauren blitzer hysteria, although i do kind of think she's cute, it's just that I couldn't relate to her book at all.
great show. love the
great show. love the topics.....very interesting. and i must agree with EVERYONE that Lauren is cute but all the women are hot!
billboards
I look forward to this each week!
lesbian as a political identity
With respect to the recent discussion about “lesbian” being a political identification mentioned on the L word and this episode of She Said What, I’ll have to say I kind of agree with Tina and disagree with you here Sarah. As an analogous example, when most people today use the expression “be a man” to a male the message and what the speaker really means within context will get across to the listener often accompanied with an implied undertone of sarcasm. Why, because we all know you can’t take such gender labeling with complete seriousness since obviously it is generally accepted that there is no one agreeable way for a male to “be a man” or a female to fit the role as “woman” speaking of gender not sex. They are just functional descriptive terms. Likewise, the lesbian identity is sociopolitical. From paper to paper, researchers who study homosexuality in attempt to reach a conclusion about the existence of the gene can’t even agree their own controls in how to define a homosexual. That being said, I do not believe that we should do away with the label, just be more inclusive in the looseness of the definition. What will sitting around trying to coin an absolute, valid lesbian identity do for the cause? Were all queer here…
i totally disagree
I'll put it this way
I personally just think people are to caught up in the strict adherence to their own identification and lose sight of the fact that it is a sociopolitical term like girl or man. I am not encouraging however doing away with the term or rejection of the lifestyle. That is far from my point. If you find comfort in that label props to you for being true to yourself.
However, I did not say that I completely agree that Tina is a lesbian. I said “I kind of agree” since I can see where she could be coming from. As delusional as her character may be, I respect her right to self-identify anyway she chooses because the person who knows ourselves best is generally us. I am a firm believer that some people are born gay, but only we can make the choice to embrace the self-identification. Ok, could you stomach the possibility that Tina could be a lesbian who has pursued this man out of some strange notion that he could provide a healthier environment for her child or that there exist lesbians in the world that unhappily live and sleep with men. See, we have to think outside of the definitions. Yes again, definitions serve society and are functional, but morally I find it better to understand life on a term to term basis with out fear of stepping outside of some culturally constructed boundary. However, from what I’ve seen out of the L Word I doubt this possibility is further explored since the show is not known for character development or complex motives.
Interestingly, I had a similar thought about choice the other day. I have an acquaintance at my college who grew up liberal and attended a boarding art school. In my opinion she is very straight. She has a longstanding boyfriend that she seems happy with and yet she pursues women. Her boyfriend even encourages it (what a surprise.) I believe that she behaves this way for attention. So, the other day when we were talking about her girlfriend who she sometimes “makes out with” I wanted to spill my feelings to her. I wanted to express how I think she is making actual homosexuals look bad. That other people may also view her behavior as a choice and attention seeking and therefore marginalize the rest of us who like you said risked personal freedom to declare the fact we are gay. But then amid our conversation, I caught myself and realized that putting this bi-curious girl in her place will do nothing to deserve tolerance for the rest of us. The gay rights cause is more than just seeking validation of our own lifestyles or an attempt to distinguish ourselves from bi-curiosity and anything else chosen will get us no further. It is about fighting all cultural, institutionalized, and personal homophobia period.
got it

luv your tomboy avatar...very dangerous...

Thanks for the feedback
Thanks for all the comments and feedback, and apologies for the initial audio problems - the file was accidentally encoded in stereo the first time around, which was creating the wierd left-and-right sound issues. We uploaded a fixed version late Friday afternoon, so it should be fine now.
Yes, Lauren didn't talk as much this time, but that'll happen to all of us at some time or another - there was one a few episodes back (the Eve Salvail one, I think) where I was the one who didn't say much. That's just how it works out sometimes.
Corday, not sure why you're having problems watching the video - try it again now, and if still doesn't work, you may have to download it as a podcast from iTunes instead.
As for how the guests are chosen, Nichole, you guessed right - we pick guests based on a combination of who/what we think is newsworthy or of interest to viewers, other guests we've had on recently (since we want to present a diversity of women), and who's available.
Thanks again to all of you for the support and encouragement!
Destigmatize bisexuals!
Really interesting discussion about hasbians and bisexuals! I loved Sarah Warn's comment about destigmatizing bisexuals instead of using "lesbian" as a political identity (Tina didn't convince me either in Episode 4). Sometimes people forget though that Sappho from Lesbos was married and even had kids. it is just common to call women who (exclusively) love women "lesbians". Those who care about etymology would probably agree that lesbian simply means being into women but not necessarily exclusively.

Catching up on eps
I really liked the incorporation of Bad Girls into this episode. Thank you so much for the mention. :) I've been a fan of this series for years. And thanks to mulit-regional dvd players, I have seasons 1-8 on dvd (from amazon.co.uk)
I have to admit to being rather weary of a US production of this show, because I've been rather spoilt with the original.
On a somewhat related note, the old prison castle that they used to film the exteriors of Bad Girls (and for which Shed Productions used the interior design for their set design) - Her Majesty's Prison Oxford - has since been turned into a rather posh hotel - Malmaison Oxford (http://www.malmaison-oxford.com/main.asp). It's absolutely gorgeous. I stayed there last spring. Odd, but very neat. Some pictures available here - http://ceridwyn2.livejournal.com/219688.html (Malmaison / former Oxford Prison) ones are about half the way down the page. :)
