Fans of the show will recall this winter’s season finale where Maura’s biological pop, Paddy Doyle, whispered the name Hope to Maura after being shot by Det. Jane Rizzoli. Lawrence will appear in two episodes in Season 3 as Hope. Maura’s biological mom put her up for adoption when she was 18 following an affair with Irish crime lord, Doyle.
According to TVGuide.com, Hope is now a “prominent doctor and an activist for women’s health with secrets of her own.”
Executive producer Janet Tamaro told TVGuide.com that Maura will go on a search for her biological mom after her father is shot.
Now [that we’re going into Season 3] you can really get into background, and Maura’s is so mysterious. She’s going to learn a lot about herself. And let’s just say if dad dies, dad is the only one who knew who her mother was. … That’s a pretty interesting character. Whoever was involved with Paddy Doyle and had a baby at 18 and is as intellectually gifted as Maura — who is she?
This casting gives Dr. Isles quite the distinguished familiar tree. Her adopted mother is Constance Isles, a brilliant art historian, played by Jacqueline Bisset. She was hit by a car last year intended for Maura. Add that to her LBFF Jane shooting her birth dad and there has been a lot of parental trauma for poor Dr. Isles.
And, this news does nothing to address the rift that surely will appear between Maura and Jane next season after the later shoots the former’s birth dad. The couples counseling bill for those two is going to be through the roof.
So, what do you think of this casting new? And, come on, could they have done better finding someone who looks like she could have actually given birth to Sasha Alexander? I mean, are we sure they aren’t actually related? Also, TNT just announced Rizzoli & Isles will return at 9 p.m. June 5. So set all phasers to “gayzolli” on your calendar.
