I’m pretty sure that I’m a bad lesbian. After all, just the premise of the new movie I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry chaps me.
"Two straight, single Brooklyn firefighters (Adam Sandler, Kevin James) pretend to be a gay couple in order to receive domestic partner benefits."
And yet here I am, in essence promoting the film by providing you with a juvenile new clip from it that features the beautiful (and ranked #41 on the AfterEllen.com Hot List) Jessica Biel. In her skivvies. I can hardly look at myself!
Oh well. I’ll look at her.
Okay, now that we’ve gotten that out of our collective system, let’s discuss the film.
As GOB of Arrested Development would say, "Come On!"
Two straight guys pretend to be gay so they can get their mitts on all of those-oh-so-special-rights in which we gays are just drowning? The fact that such a lame premise made it to the big screen is not a big surprise to me. The big surprise is that it was co-written by Alexander Payne (Election, Citizen Ruth, About Schmidt, Sideways), Barry Fanaro (Kingpin), and Jim Taylor (who co-wrote Election, Citizen Ruth, About Schmidt, Sideways with Payne). And it’s directed by Dennis Dugan, who directed the amusing Saving Silverman (but he also directed Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore, and Beverly Hills Ninja, so…).
With so many cool creative minds behind it, will I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry really be that offensive? I suppose it’s too soon to tell, and I’ve learned the hard way not to pass self-righteous lesbian judgment on films that I haven’t actually seen yet (ah, grad school). So I guess I’ll have to see it–and Jessica Biel in it–and get back to you.
Oh the sacrifices I make for this blog.
