Sandra Bullock goes blonde and brings two new films this fall

We aren’t supposed to call Sandra Bullock‘s surprise summer blockbuster, The Proposal, "a comeback," but after being away from the big screen for what felt like years, Bullock’s romantic comedy brought in $34 million on opening weekend ($148 million domestically to date). It was the biggest opening of her career and one of the top grossing openings ever by a female director (Anne Fletcher). And, I’m sorry, but after Miss Congeniality 2, that qualifies as a comeback.

And Bullock is not finished yet: She’s got two more movies slated for wide release this year, and one of them looks lovely.

First, though, let’s address the ugly. No, not Bullock’s hair in the upcoming comedy All About Steve, but the actual premise of the movie.

Mary (Bullock) creates crossword puzzles as a career, and after one disastrous blind date with Steve (Bradley Cooper), she goes chasing him into a hurricane because she’s convinced they are soul mates. Apparently, along the way, she meets an eccentric group of strangers who embrace her, but mostly the trailer just makes me cringe.

I want to believe the best when I see the words "From the creators of Miss Congeniality and Two Weeks’ Notice," but again, I paid ten whole dollars to see Miss Congeniality 2. I have not recovered. There will probably be something wonderful and redemptive All About Steve. I’ll probably just wait to find out on DVD.

On the more dramatic side of things is Bullock’s fall release, The Blind Side.

The Blind Side is based on the true story in Michael Lewis’s book, The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game. The film follows Leigh Anne Touhy (Bullock) as her family takes in a teenager who has spent his life on the streets. Bullock’s Hope Floats accent is in full effect in this football drama, and I should probably go ahead and confess that the trailer made me cry.

As an added bonus: Kathy Bates!

All About Steve opens on September 4 and The Blind Side opens on November 20. Will you be participating in the Sandra Bullock Comeback Tour of 2009?
