Rosie O’Donnell apologized yesterday morning on The View for her comments that offended many Asian Americans the other day. She said, “I’m sorry for those people who felt hurt or were teased on the playground” with the phrase “ching chong,” which she used as part of a fake Chinese accent. She expressed extreme surprise that Asian Americans might be offended by this term, and went on to say that she is likely to use accents in the future, as she is a comedian.
You know what? To me, O’Donnell’s apology, while a bit better than the one she posted on her blog earlier this week, just seemed forced. But AngryAsianMan says it a lot better than me (scroll down to the 12/14/06 posts to read his reactions).
