After the Daytime Emmy Awards last Friday (read all about Ellen DeGeneres‘ big wins here), Bob Barker mentioned that CBS is planning to meet with Rosie O’Donnell to discuss The Price Is Right.
Barker’s not opposed to the idea of Rosie hosting the show:
“She knows the show,” he said. “There’s no doubt in my mind she could do the show. Now, whether they want a lady host, I don’t know. As far as I know, they’ve only auditioned men.”
Yeah, yeah, it’s hard to resist making a joke about Rosie being called a "lady," but I’ll leave that to others. I’m more interested in Barker’s flip-flopping, if earlier reports are to be believed: In May, TVGuide.com said he was "adamant" that Rosie not get the gig and the Daily News said the same. Hmm. Maybe Ro offered to make a big donation to one of his pet spay-and-neuter organizations?
Well, Barker can change his mind, of course. Meanwhile, props to TVGuide.com’s Matt Webb Mitovich
for this snarky comment: "Sigh. Kiss goodbye all the heterosexual sex talk during Plinko." Take that, Barbara Walters. Mitovich also noted that Walters was using some very fuzzy math when she said that The View‘s ratings are up: They’re up versus a year ago (pre-Rosie) but down 10 percent compared to O’Donnell’s final week. So much for Walters’ impeccable journalism.
Rosie confirmed in the “ask ro” section of her website that a Price Is Right meeting is on the horizon and that she’s interested in the job:
She also commented on Ellen’s praise for her at the Daytime Emmy Awards:
And on her blog, there’s a nice montage of moments from The View, including many shots of Elisabeth Hasselbeck. All such happy stuff — could it be that Rosie’s ready to move on and host one of the most beloved game shows ever? I still can’t quite imagine what that would be like, but I know I’ll tune in if it happens. I think she’d be a hell of a lot more watchable than George Hamilton, who’s also in the running. If he gets the job, I’ll be constantly adjusting the color on my TV in a futile attempt to make his face less orange.
