Queen Latifah is “Trav’lin Light” with new recording

Queen Latifah is one busy royal these days.

She’s on the big screen as Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray. She’s been on the small screen presenting at the BET awards and earning an Emmy nomination for HBO’s Life Support. She’s executive producer of Wifey, a BET/VH1 drama series about the hip-hop business. She even has her own clothing line. (And the woman does look good in clothes.)

Much as I love seeing Latifah everywhere, I love hearing her sing even more. So I’m delighted that she found time to go back to the studio for a new recording, Trav’lin Light, her first album since The Dana Owens Album in 2004.

Scheduled for a late September release, Trav’lin Light features classic songs made popular by greats like Etta James, Roberta Flack and Sarah Vaughn. With guest artists Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Stevie Wonder.

When a fan asked whether Latifah had rather act or sing, she said she enjoys both. So how about you? Would you like to see the Queen on screen or hear her rich tones in tunes? I choose all of the above.
