Today, Whitney Houston was found dead in her Los Angeles hotel room. While no reasons for her death have been explained, reports state that there does not appear to be any foul play involved. Houston was 48.

Whitney Houston has been a part of all of our lives, as she’s become a legend and an icon since she started singing in the late ’70s and came out with her undeniable pop songs in the 1980s. Lesbians might recall that she has been rumored to have had flings with women, but she will always be remembered for her voice. Whitney Houston’s voice is the one all singers aspire to have; no one could sing a song better than she could, not even the national anthem.

Besides singing, Whitney was also an actress in films like The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale and The Preacher’s Wife and she was poised for a “comeback” of sorts with her upcoming film, Sparkle. Over the years, she released songs that could easily be seen as feminist anthems, such as her renditions of “I’m Every Woman” and “Queen of the Night” (both from The Bodyguard soundtrack) and “It’s Not Right (But It’s Okay).”

We remember Whitney Houston for her unrivaled talent and will never forget the gift she shared with us that was her voice. Please share your favorite Whitney performance with us in the comments below.
