The hottest women in uniform

This morning President Obama signed the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, ending the more than 230-year ban on gay and lesbian soldiers serving in the United States military. The historic event was witnessed by lawmakers who fought to get the policy repealed and gay former service members who fought for their country.

Obama welcomed new gay recruits and former military members to enlist or reenlist, saying:

Your country needs you, your country wants you and we will be honored to welcome you into the ranks of the finest military the world has ever known … We are not a nation that say don’t ask don’t tell … We are a nation that welcomes the service of every patriot. We are a nation that believes that all men and women are created equal. Those are the ideals that generations have fought for, those are the ideals that we uphold today and now it is my honor to sign this bill into law.

The signing of the bill into law didn’t automatically end the policy today. That will happen 60 days after President Obama, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen certify readiness. But that process is expected to move ahead quickly.

So it’ll still be a little bit until we see a flood of brave, out LGBT men and women enlist. Until then let’s celebrate this magnificent milestone in equality the best way possible: By ogling some of the hottest actresses to have played U.S. military service members. Here are ten of the best to have worn the uniform on the big and small screen.

Glenn shone in the real-life story of National Guard Col. Margarethe Cammermeyer, who was discharged for being a lesbian in the days before the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy.

I can’t decide if I like Jordana better in her dress whites of service khakis in her role as a instructor class leader in the U.S. Naval Academy. Let’s go with both.

A real lesbian playing a closeted lesbian who goes after out lesbians who serve in the military. Whew, glad that kind of brain-twister of a role will now be a thing of the past.

Sure she was America’s sweetheart, but she could also fly a helicopter. Take that, Tom Cruise.

I think today’s news means Tasha can officially reenlist.

I think they should make the recruitment poster for lesbians just big pictures of Demi’s shaved head and one-armed push-ups.
