Oprah’s bestie Gayle King once again denied that the pair is anything but platonic friends. At a visit to New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Gayle told TMZ that there is no “gay vibe” between her and Oprah.
The latest round of lesbian rumors was fueled by a girls-only camping and fishing trip Oprah and Gayle took to Yosemite National Park last month.
I’m sorry ladies, but I just don’t see what is gay about that. I, for one, never, ever masqueraded a love interest as my “best friend” before I came out of the closet. And I certainly never tried to get her alone in the woods.
Anyway, back at Yosemite, Oprah and Gayle were the first to point out that their camping trip might reignite chatter that they are more than friends. After a night of munching on popcorn by a campfire (not gay), the gal pals retired to their shared camper (definitely not gay).
I’m sad to say, but I think Oprah and Gayle actually are just friends. The always-candid Oprah has repeatedly said that if she were gay, she would tell us.
Honestly, I don’t think we could keep Oprah in the closet if we tried. She’s the third most powerful woman in the world, according to Forbes, and she has enough money to buy a small country, of which she could be the queen, same-sex marriage could be legal, and she and Gayle could live happily ever after.
I’m pretty sure at this point in her career, Oprah would have nothing to lose by coming out as a lesbian. In fact, I’m sure she’d start a ripple effect across the country. Women all over would finally realize they are in love with their “best friends,” and being gay would quickly become something people celebrate instead of fear (Live Your Best Lesbian Life!). But, I just don’t see that happening any time soon.
Oh well, at least we have Ellen.
