7 Women to Watch at Comic-Con

Comic-Con 2009 started Thursday in San Diego and women are rocking the house more than ever.

Thankfully, Wired has provided a handy guide to 7 Women Who Will Rock Comic-Con, so those of us not lucky enough to be at the con can keep up with the lucky geeks roaming the convention floor. Here are a few of the highlights.

Hack/Slash is not the kind of comic book I would pick up to peruse at the comic store. But if you have a taste for horror, with plenty of sex and violence (and, really, who doesn’t?), this series is worth a look. Cassandra Hack knows how to kick slasher butt and look hot doing it. And Hollywood wants to bring her to life on the big screen.

Wired singled out Sigourney Weaver, who is at Comic-Con to promote Avatar, but she is far from alone. Thursday night’s panel, “Wonder Women: Female Power Icons in Pop Culture” featured Eliza Dushku, Zoe Saldana and Elizabeth Mitchell as well as Weaver. This news actually made me glad that I’m not at Comic-Con. Being in the room with those four women at the same time would’ve made my head explode. You can read all about the panel at the MTV Movies Blog.

I am Spartacus. Or at least I wish I were, because he gets to see Lucy Lawless in that outfit all the time. The first look at the Starz original series Spartacus: Blood and Sand is today and Lawless will be there, probably talking about how she could take down a gladiator in under ten minutes.

Check out the rest of the con-rocking women here. Wired will have full coverage of con news all weekend.

Are any of you at Comic-Con? Tell us what we’re missing. And if you know of other women to watch at this year’s convention, let us know.
