If you’re a fan of The L Word, chances are you’ve been following Leisha Hailey’s music career since the Showtime series ended almost a decade ago. Uh-Huh Her, made up of Hailey and her partner Camila Grey cranked out fun, fresh, techno-pop tunes. But a couple years ago, the music stopped. Rumor has it, the split of the band led to the split of the couple, or the other way around, who knows. The point is, Hailey has been single since 2016, and it’s time for her to start making music with someone new. In the meantime, watch our video interview with the lesbian star at the premiere of her new flick!
Best known for her legendary years as Shane on The L Word, Kate Moennig has since has been cast in another lesbian role as Lena on Showtime’s Ray Donovan, which was renewed for a sixth season back in October. She’ll be busy professionally next year, what with that show and her work as an executive producer on the new L Word revival (squee!), but the out lesbian actress/celesbian DJ has remained largely out of the romance spotlight since she split up with Westworld’s Evan Rachel Wood. Word on the street is that Kate is available these days, and as was discussed on AE last year, Shane is still as relevant as ever.
Kyrsten Sinema is a trailblazer, becoming the first bisexual woman to be elected to Congress back in 2012. She is a Democrat currently serving as U.S. Representative in the 9th congressional district of Arizona. At the end of last year, Sinema introduced legislation that would garnish wages for people who use taxpayer dollars to settle sexual harassment suits, so she’s working overtime to bring equality to her home state. She also recently announced shortly after Republication Senator Jeff Flake announced he wouldn’t be seeking reelection that she would be stepping up and running for the Senate in 2018. This blonde bombshell has never been married, and doesn’t have any children. Maybe 2018 will be the year for love and victory!
We have some serious powerhouse lesbian and bi women in politics right now, and out lesbian Tammy Baldwin is no newcomer to facing adversity and making tough choices for the good of the country. She was elected Senator of Wisconsin back in 2013 and has been serving ever since. Baldwin and ex-partner Lauren Azar were together for 15 years, but split back in 2010. They were one of the first couples to sign up for Wisconsin’s domestic partner registry back in 2009, so the breakup was a surprise to fans of the couple. Baldwin hasn’t been romantically linked to anyone since
Professional soccer player Sarah Huffman has been largely out of the spotlight since the World Cup kiss seen round the world was quickly followed up with a divorce from then wife Abby Wambach. Wambach announced the split in her memoir, which was published shortly before the divorce was made official in 2016. Wambach has since wed activist and author Glennon Doyle Melton, but it doesn’t appear Huffman has found a new love yet. This bisexual babe deserves someone amazing, so let’s hope 2018 is her year!
The pop singer’s sexuality has been under speculation for years, especially with the release of her edgy anthem “Cool for the Summer” sparked criticism of exploiting bisexuality by implying she hooks up with girls but not claiming to identify that way. All of the debates came to a head a couple months ago when Lovato released her intimate documentary Simply Complicated and announced that she was on dating apps with an interest in both men and women. Although she’s been spotted being pretty affectionate with some of her besties, most recently during a NYE smooch with dancer Jojo Gomez she hasn’t been linked romantically to anyone since her breakup with long-term love Wilmer Valderrama. Maybe she’ll find a new love with a lady in 2018!
Filmmaker, fashion icon, YouTuber and professional cuddler Ari Fitz will make any woman swoon. When she’s not demonstrating cuddle techniques, Ari makes one of our favorite video series, her hilarious “lesbians react” videos, which is exactly what it sounds like. Last we heard she’s not spoken for, but that is likely to change at any moment. While we wait to find out, check out our interview with her at last year’s Out Web Fest. Then get in line.
If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you know her face. You might even despise her gorgeous face when you see it one screen, due to the run as the shrill, miserable Aunt Petunia in the wizarding series. But this 59-year-old lesbian Irish actress is actually about as kind as they come. Shaw came out as gay back in 2005 and split from her husband, who then also went on to date someone of the same sex. She’s had a few public romances over the years, but does keep it pretty personal with her private life and has been single for a while now. Hopefully 2018 will find Fiona Shaw more open to making magic than Aunt Petunia was on Privet Drive :).
Often referred to as the world’s first Latina supermodel, Patricia Velasquez is the whole package: author, actress, runway star, and philanthropist. In 2002 she founded the Wayúu Tayá Foundation to raise money for the Wayúu indigenous people. Velasquez is also fluent in four languages. She came out as a lesbian in 2015 through her memoir, where she discussed the love she had for Sandra Bernhard. In her memoir, Velasquez reveals that she had her daughter with a previous partner, a woman named Lauren. At the time the book was published, she was dating Ileanna Simancas, a Venezuelan actress, but both women are believed to be currently single.
Star an writer of Signature Move, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2017 Outfest, is single – or at least she was the last time our entertainment reporter, Lily, spoke with her following her film’s big win. The self-described lesbian, Muslim, Pakistani, actor, activist, writer, producer, lawyer and creature of passion told AE that her relationship with her girlfriend while living in Chicago was her inspiration for the script, but “She is now my ex but don’t worry — we’re still friends.”
Amber Heard debuted as ocean royalty in Justice League, giving us a glimpse of what we’re in for as Mera in next year’s solo Aquaman movie. The Texan bisexual also made lots of headlines in 2016 during her tumultuous divorce with Johnny Depp that was laced with accusations of verbal and physical abuse. Since the divorce was finalized, Heard and Depp have released a joint statement about their relationship that she has pinned to the top of her Twitter account and has worked most of 2017 to raise awareness about domestic violence. Heard dated businessman Elon Musk for a few months in 2017, but the two split in August. It looks to me like Heard could use some gentle, loving, stability with a lady this time around.
In case you haven’t heard, Lea DeLaria, the fiercest butch lesbian and most loyal character on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, is officially back on the market as of early 2017. DeLaria and her former partner Chelsea Fairless announced they had called it quits just a few short days after their scheduled wedding date. Fairless is reportedly dating someone new, but Boo is still living the single life for now. Check out AE’s recent article on Lea DeLaria and the butch struggle while you’re brushing up on your OITNB and trying to find her phone number.
Since news broke of Jane Lynch’s divorce from her wife Lara Embry, the actress, comedian, out lesbian and game show host hasn’t been linked to a new flame. While the wonderful, whimsical Jane seems happy living the single life, we would never hesitate to cheer her on for finding a new love. Who wouldn’t want this woman to make her smile every day? Also, can someone bring back Glee, pretty please?
The power lesbian behind The Dinah Shore Weekend is single! For now, anyway. That’s right. The woman who made it possible for lesbians to gather together annually in sunny Palm Springs, CA for what has become known as a lesbian mecca and rite of passage, is on the market. Hey, if buy your tickets to The Dinah and attend every party there, you might just bump into her! You’ve got a Mariah window of March 28th to April 2 before she heads back to Sonoma or LA, so you best don your cutest bikini and make it happen. AE is rooting for you!
You might think you don’t know Guinevere Turner, but I guarantee you’re familiar with most of her work. Remember the 1994 lesbian movie aptly titled Go Fish? Turner starred as Max, but she also co-wrote and co-produced the film. So it’s safe to say she’s good at multitasking. She was also a writer for the first two seasons of The L Word and screenwriter for American Psycho. Last we heard she was in a LTR with Tracy Chapman, but we’re including her on this list because her Facebook says “no relationships to show” so….we’ll have to update you.
Creator of the beloved award-winning lesbian drama series Girl/Girl Scene among other productions, Tucky Williams is a talented director, actor, and writer. This multi-talented Kentucky native has all the charm of a southern belle, but she can seamlessly play the “bad boi” in the bat of an eyelash. To see some of that in action, check out Girl/Girl Scene on Amazon Prime, then watch her stun on the red carpet and you’ll see what I mean. And hey, if you don’t end up capturing her heart, maybe you can audition for her next movie.
Model turned actress Cara Delevingne has been living the adventurous life this year, recently posing with a real lion that matches her signature ink on her knuckle. She also chopped off her long luscious locks. Often outspoken about her sexuality since coming out, Delevingne has brought a spotlight to the bi community by discussing how her she has friends who don’t understand the fluidity of her sexuality. Delevingne and girlfriend, DJ and musician St Vincent, called in quits around September of 2017, but the two still seem to be close. Here’s to Cara living life to the fullest in 2018, and if she finds love along the way, that’s great too!
The hip hop artist has been rapping since she was 17 years old, and all three of the albums she released (just in 2017!) were all freestyle. That’s right, ladies. Siya has a way with words, and if she can put entire albums together with just her stream of conscience, imagine what she would whisper in your ear. Siya is open about being true to herself, whether it comes to her sexuality as a lesbian in hip hop, or about her own personal struggles with mental health. You can get your Siya fix on Oxygen’s new series, Sisterhood of Hip Hop, where she’s one of the main cast members.
Did we miss any single celesbians? Let us know in the comments! We’ll update this list through spring!
