Their music has been described as poetic, passionate, “Indie Americana.” Partners in both life and song, The Harmaleighs are Haley Grant [lead vocals, guitar] and Kaylee Jasperson [bass, harmonies]. The Nashville duo recently released their Hiraeth EP, and AfterEllen is proud to premiere their new music video “Birds of a Feather” which is the lead track from the album.

Hiraeth, a Welsh word loosely meaning “longing for a home” is fitting to the couple’s personal story, as they discovered its meaning while on an extensive, nine-month long tour. You can catch the undertones of wanderlust and longing in their ethereal sound, which combines elements of pop, folk, and indie. “Birds of a Feather” is a poignantly graceful video with imagery that is in perfect harmony with the music and lyrics it accompanies. Watching it is simultaneously mesmerizing and comforting, much like the song itself.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I have, because I have a feeling these ladies are going to be on our radar for a while. I must confess, I’m not usually even a fan of the genre, but this just grabbed me. I am kind of in love with this song, and will be downloading the entire EP.
