10 Female Celebs Who Are Proud to be Bisexual

Words hold so much power, and when a bisexual person, (and the same obviously holds true for lesbians) embraces her label for visibility and acknowledgment, it’s not only helpful to the movement but lends credibility to something that some still see as confusion or not valid. Here are 10 women who have not only come out as bisexual but express their sexual orientations’ importance in their work and everyday conversations. Desiree Akhavan   Not only is Desiree out and proud, but her 2014 debut Appropriate Behavior was an inspired film about a bisexual woman who had relationships with both men and women. Nadine Angerer   Germany’s goalkeeper came out in 2010, saying, “I am very open about this, because I am of the opinion there are nice guys and nice women. Besides, I find it totally silly to have a general definition. … I see no problem for me to come out of the closet.” Margaret Cho   The out comic refers to herself as both bisexual and queer. “To me, it’s very ’70s to be ‘bi,’ but it’s really fabulous,” Margaret told Out. “I like the term ‘queer’ too. But I think “bi” is more elegant. “Bisexuality” feels good. It’s perfume ads…it’s very elegant.” Follow her: @margaretcho Halsey Steve Granitz/WireImage/Getty The musician is proud to be inclusive of women-women relationships in her music videos. “That general assumption that a guy should be cast, like, that the video was about a hetero-normative plotline, just made me angry and made me realize how important it is to do something that people aren’t expecting,” she said of her video for “Ghost.” “Like, I’m a bisexual woman so I’m interested in relationships with both men and women and I know how important it is to showcase that.” Follow her: @halsey Lady Gaga   The pop star and American Horror Story: Hotel actress is not afraid to take down haters who alleged she faked her bisexuality for fans. “You know what? It’s not a lie that I am bisexual and I like women, and anyone that wants to twist this into ‘she says she’s bisexual for marketing,’ this is a fucking lie,” she said. “This is who I am and who I have always been.” Follow her: @ladygaga Anna Paquin   The True Blood star once explained to Larry King how her bisexuality didn’t go away when she married husband Steven Moyer. “I don’t think it’s a past tense thing,” she said. “Are you still straight if you are with somebody?… If you were to break up with them or if they were to die, it doesn’t prevent your sexuality from existing. It doesn’t really work like that.” Follow her: @annapaquin Evan Rachel Wood In 2013, the actress told us about deciding to come out publicly. ‘There’s a part of that says “Is it people’s business? Should I make it a big deal about it? Maybe it shouldn’t be a thing and I don’t have to talk about it.” But I think because of the state that society is in right now, especially on this issue, I felt a real need to come out and speak out for equal rights and for the gay, lesbian, bisexual community. I think if there was ever a time to come out, now would be the time. And if I can use my status to draw awareness and get people talking about it, then that means the world to me.” Monica Raymund The Chicago Fire star tweeted she was “so proud to be bi” during the highly-publicized anti-gay policies in Russia during the Sochi Olympics. She recently shared some photos of her GF on social media, too. The relationships Cynthia writes about, she says, have “nothing to do with gender. It has to do with soul and spirit.” Kyrsten Sinema   The first openly bisexual member of Congress, the U.S. Representative has been out since 2005 when she referred to herself as part of the LGBT community and later clarified, “Duh, I’m bisexual.” In her spare time, she competes in Ironman Triathlons and once summited Mount Kilimanjaro.
