Lest the day pass with total dignity, Gawker posted its official Obama Hotties poll, inviting readers to pick the hottest member of the incoming Obama administration.
Is this objectification? Yes, it is. Without question, these are all highly intelligent and capable people who will serve our country with integrity and honor. For now, however, I am setting aside the slightest semblance of depth to enjoy the pretty pictures. That’s just the kind of person I am. (In fairness, Gawker objectifies males and females alike. I am solely to blame for taking it a step further.)
Before introducing the (female) contestants, however, I want to take a moment to admire one who, although not technically part of the administration, definitely meets the other criterion: First Lady Michelle Obama.
And now, Gawker’s nominees:
Melody Barnes, Director of Domestic Policy Council
Desirée Rogers, White House Social Secretary
Ellen Moran, White House Communications Director
Samantha Power, senior adviser
Susan Rice, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations
Mona Sutphen, Deputy Chief of Staff
Obviously, Gawker left some beautiful and powerful women off its list. The most flagrant omission was perhaps deliberate because a victory in this particular race would be certain.
Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State
Who else should be on this list? Who is your personal choice for hottest woman in the Obama administration so far?
