Interview with Gabrielle Christian
AE: Any prospects this month?
GC: I recently auditioned to play Natalie Holloway.
AE: The woman who disappeared while
on a class trip in
GC: Yeah. Lifetime's doing a movie on it. Oh my God, it was creepiest
audition ever. I go to this audition and every girl there – we're all blond-haired,
blue-eyed – totally kind of looks like her. But I'm waiting to hear on a few
things.
AE: While you wait for your first
grey hair, what else are you doing?
GC: I'm working with this organization called FAIR Fund. We work with children, young
women, and older women who've been trafficked or exploited or violated, but
mainly trafficking.
Nobody really knows, but slavery is actually more prominent [now] than it's
ever been in world history. It's under the radar and in every state and every
city and country that exists. People know about Southeast Asia but they don't
know so much about Eastern Europe and
So we decided to do this documentary that's being shot by Samantha Farinella (
AE: Are you narrating the
documentary?
GC: Yes, I'm narrating the documentary.
AE: Have you met any of the girls?
GC: This summer, we went to Belgrade, Serbia and spent about a week there,
interviewed some of the girls, who are from all over the former Yugoslavia
area. We have girls from
I've learned a lot of things and it's also been eye-opening and depressing and amazing. They put them on drugs, or put them on the street to sell themselves. And a lot of the girls think that that's the only way they can make money because it's the only way they have. It's a vicious cycle.
The girls that we have on camera, you'd think some of them would be victims and want people to feel sorry for them. But it's the complete opposite. These girls are so strong and they're survivors. They're like a bunch of bad-ass girls. I would never want to get in a fight with any of them.
Shooting documentary in Serbia
AE: What can be done for them?
GC: Donate, raise awareness, and support organizations like FAIR Fund. Right
now, we're doing a program called Jewelgirls
and we teach the girls how to make jewelry. We come back to the States and sell
their jewelry for them. They learn they could be entrepreneurs. It lets them
know they have other options.
AE: Do you feel a personal connection
with the girls from Eastern Europe because you're Hungarian?
GC: Yes, well that was the coolest part. When we were in Belgrade, there
was a girl who is half-Hungarian, like myself, and for her interview, she spoke
Serbian but she needed some help with some Hungarian words. I was able to
contribute as translator and I connected with her because we had been to the
same places and our families come from the same places.
It was really cool to be a part of that. I also studied Russian in high school for three years, so I kind of have the Slavic thing down. I can read Cyrillic and got to be the point person when we went out on the streets and had to read signs and billboards and where to get off the bus. I could read everything, so that was really cool.
AE: So when you got lost, it was your
fault. Have you ever heard the foreign language versions of South of Nowhere?
GC: Yes, it's hilarious. There's French, German and Spanish.
AE: If they ever do a Hungarian
version, you could do your own dubbing. Jodie Foster does all her own French dubbing
for her films because she's fluent.
GC: That's so cool!
AE: I know! You could do Hungarian
Spencer.
GC: Oh my God! That would be so funny.
AE: Say one of Spencer's lines in
Hungarian.
GC: Szeretem a lányokat.
AE: What did you just say?
GC: I like girls!

GABBY ROCKS
Ahaha
She's So Cute!!!
Very nice interview Dara...
Cute!
Awww isn't she just perfect! Love that last answer :p But it's true what Haven says... what'll we watch now? Emma Watson sounds great, but we've got to wait 6 more months, at least...
You didn't even take your clothes of, yet you've never looked more naked.
Gabby is so freakin amazing
Cool interview...
That's my theory...
That's bullshit if that is
I second the need for a
I second the need for a Mandy interview!
I also wish Gabrielle had written SoN, imagine the possibilities! Lol. She seems like a genuinely nice person, in a sense she's like the real nice (non-gay) Spencer Carlin.
She seems like such a sweet,
I Just Love Gaby
She seems like such a down to earth person. I hope she get some roles soon. I'm going to miss her so much not being able to see her on South. I know most people like Mandy cause she hot. I like them both but to me Gaby has always been my favorite of the 2 girls. I think she is just as hot as Mandy. I'm glad to hear they are still great friends there was a rumour they was no longer friends so its good to hear they still are good friends. They just don't hang out as much as they use to as when they was filming South. That was sad when she says she misses Mandy.
I'm glad to hear what Gaby thoughts where on that 5 year webisode. Why did Matt have to be in it. We can't ever have just a Spashley moment not even for the very ending. That what the fans REALLY would've wanted Mr. Lynch.
I like how Gaby wanted the direction the show to go. That would've been so awesome to see how it played out. The whole college thing and I guess Mandy is to be a big rock star. But they eventually end up together in the end because they are true loves as Gaby puts it.
I WISH GABY NOTHING BUT GREAT THINGS AHEAD AND I HOPE TO SEE HER IN FUTURE ROLES ON MY T.V. SHE A GREAT ACTRESS AND A GREAT HUMAN BEING
SPASHLEY FOREVER
wait!!
when did mandy get engaged??
Just recently. On a romantic, secluded island near Fiji. To me.
I wish.
Nice Job...
Thanks Dara for bringing us this wonderful interview with Gaby. I too will miss SON. As mentioned with SON and The L Word going off the air and Grey's Anatomy doing who knows what with its cavalcade of characters, I feel like there won't be a lot of shows to watch that deal with LGBT issues.
It's great to read an interview with a young actress in Hollywood who truly seems to have her priorities in order and a level head on her shoulders. I certainly wish Gaby all the best in her future endeavors and with her life in general.
I was surprised to hear that both Gaby and Mandy are engaged... wow! Congratulations to both of them and their respective partners.
I also look forward to hopefully seeing an interview with Mandy at some point.

this young lady is absolutely terrific. love her. one of the sweetest straight allies we have. I can't wait to see her in more shows and hopefully movies. what a screen presence.
and now we all know what "I like girls" means in Hungarian :P

No on H8! pics
Gabby is soo sweet
I have to admit next to meave she is probably the most real person out so SON. And thank God some one else from the cast is saying now much the last webisode sucks... just the 3 of them, Why does aiden have to stalk them two... 5 years in the future you would hope that they would have forgotten about him.
I hope that we'll see her a lot more in the future.
God, I love her.
Could she be any more of an inpiration? I almost feel the need to reread this.
It's great to hear her retrospect on South of Nowhere. I have to agree that the first season was the best.
Aside from the non-profit work, and all of the bilingual hotness, she's an amazingly beautiful actor. I think she's destined to move on to much greater things than a teen drama and episodes of CSI.
Oh, and need I say that anything that she narrates, I will definitely see. She has the Hottest. Voice. Ever.

I Loved This Interview!
After reading this, I've only managed to gather more respect for Gabrielle than I ever had before. Sometimes when she is with Mandy she gets shy and talked over, so it was so nice getting to hear some of her in this interview.
I agree with what everybody else was saying. Out of the SON cast, she seems the most real and the most honest. She's somebody I could actually imagine being friends with. I loved how she loved SON, but didn't mind talking about it's flaws (the webisode, the fact taht Season 1 was the most real).
THANK YOU GABBY!
I'm actually sad now that SON is over. She made me realize this crew won't be together any longer =( Hopefully, she and Mandy might end up acting together again, even if I don't really consider them much of a couple anyways =)
Gabby = Awesome
hot hot hot
oooh
she was way cooler than i expected. i love that she called out the final webisode as completely cheesy and predictable - honestly, ill probably feel the same but appreciate it nonetheless. also, really interesting for her to address the thing about how it's hard for actresses with her / mandy's looks / build to get jobs for characters their age.
oh and i knew she was engaged, but mandy, too? to matt cohen? whoa these young straight kids move fast...

Everything she says is so amazing. And I appreciate her honesty [about the stupid webisode] and her passion for all the charities shes involved in.
Why does South have to end?
Gabrielle. She's
Gabrielle.
She's narrating a documentary? She's got one of the greatest voices ever.
Face of an angel, that one.
ENGAGED!??!/
ENGAGED!??! BOTH OF THEM?!? What the frak!
and despite my reaction above, I really do want to say congratulations and wish them both all the best. :)
Yes Gabi has been

Mandy has been engaged Matt Cohen for about a year
I avoided the spoilers!
I avoided the spoilers! *pats self on the back* Too a lot of strength, but I did it!
Anyway... Wonderful article. I absolutely love her. She's just fabulous, and her answers are so well thought out and professional. I'm glad she's working with Mandy on other projects.

Has anybody seeing the last webisode? What happens?
I'm going to guess they get married or something.
You'll get your answer if
Awe :) Gabby is so awesome.
Awe :) Gabby is so awesome. I love how she called out the webisode. I'm thinking about not even watching it. But I'm wondering why she didn't say anything about the other webisode? Isn't there supposedly another one that's the day after the finale episode?
Oh well, I wish the best for her. She deserves it. :)
This interview was beyond amazing. Thanks!
Love my SON girls
Hey Dara and Gaby, great interview. So happy that SON is getting some attention as it winds up it's run. You know it is bittersweet for me. But I have to say a big THANK YOU to Tommy Lynch -- if it wasn't for his bold inspiration and fighting to let us write and produce the show in a truthful way, none of us would have had this great experience. And the audience and fans who have been touched worldwide would have missed out, too. It has truly been a landmark show on so many levels.
But my greatest gift from SON is the life long friendships that I got from working on this show. Having Gaby and Mandy and Matt (who I spent Thanksgiving with) and of course, Maeve as my friends and family now are better than any credit on a resume, any script I've written or award I have ever received.
And as the kids from King High move on, all I can say is -- SON 4-ever!
Love, Nancylee xo
Do what you love, with those you love.
3WayTV.tv
Thank-You Nancylee
Your post bought tears to my eyes and touched my heart.
I want to thank-you for being the best part of SON besides Gaby, Mandy and Maeve and giving us fans SPASHLEY who we will never forget.
SON changed the lives of so many people gay and straight, young and old alike.
This show will deeply be missed more than any show I have EVER watched.
I wish nothing for the best for you and the girls and maybe someday you can write something that brings Gaby and Mandy back together on our TV. They have such amazing chemistry together which is a rare thing in hollywood these days. I miss them already.
I agree with Gaby on season 1 being my favorite season your writing and the girls acting was amazing. I like season 2 I just didn't like how Spencer was treated. Season 3 was kinda out there and you could tell the writing had changed hands. I still didn't miss a minute of the show and will keep SON in my heart forever.
I'm so glad they you and the girls are family and still do things together
I wish Gaby , Mandy, Maeve and you nothing but the brightest future in all you do
SPASHLEY FORVER
Please, please, please
lurvs Gabs so much...
I'm thankful SoN was on, but it does need to end. These last few eps have been dreadful. She's still completely adorable, though.
A pal of mine turned me onto this:
www.anyonebutmeseries.com
Haven't seen it yet, but looks like it will be a great way to fill the SoN void!
how cool is she??
heh gotta admit i've only seen bits of south of nowhere, but both gabrielle and mandy seem really lovely. FAIR fund is such an important charity, i really admire gabby for being a part of it.
so yeah, adding myself to the general outcry for a mandy interview :):)
Ahhh Gaby
She is really sweet, smart and ... hot ! Ashley and Spencer are so cute in SoN. Thanks for the interview.
I admire Gabrielle Christian for all what she does for her charities. Respect.
Là tout n'est que beauté, luxe, calme et volupté...
Fantastic Guest & Interview
I've commented on this interview on another site but I felt I needed to do so here as well. I have the utmost respect for everything Gabrielle is doing. From her charities to her polite candidness of what her views on South were, she demonstrates just what young hollywood should be.
I, for one, will continue to support the long career she has ahead of her. Thank You Gabrielle for helping to bring Spashley to life because it no doubt has affected many people, young and old alike.
Sziasztok!
Sziasztok!
Hey everyone! I'm alson a Hungarian and I love the series so much, it's such a pity that there were only 2 seasons!!! :((( I hope very much that there's going to be a movie based on that!! With those actors of course (especially Spencer and Ashley :P ) I was so happy hearing that she is Hungarian... (L) And I'm glad that the webside ending happened like this, because when it started I thought Aiden and Ashley would have a child and I was nearly heartbroken! I would have been very disappointed if that happened that way. But fortunately it didn't!
And finally, I really want to say that I want it very-very-very much to make some other materials from that story - series would be best, but movie is great too.
