Very true...and those others certainly did take my mind off of her. I was in Heaven lookin over that list! I was soooo happy Piper made it.I heart her lol
Although I personally didn’t contribute to the “hottie” list (not in favor of that sort of Maxim-izing, but hey that’s my own little hang-up). So I have no right to be critical. But I do have to say I’m pleasantly surprised at some of the Ladies that appeared (Streep, Mirren, etc.), some of them with their own definition of “hot”. But not surprised with the follow up comments.Diversity is a wonderful thing.Amen to that.
Also, thanks for matching up photos with some of these names I never even heard of.Where have I been….
Thanks for the info it's very good to know. Now we can lay some of our disappointments to rest.... now excuse me while i go shove my foot up my own ass for forgetting to mention Missy...... "woe is me"
Thank you thank you thank you for the list. It was such a pleasure to see all those beautiful women at once, that all the words I could get out was "Oh my!" *lecherous purr*
I just have to say that a list like this, compiled of women voted for by women who find them attractive, makes me so proud of us and so pleased to be part of this community of individuals who have found love and beauty and attraction in places other than those most people would consider. A woman is a wondrous thing.
Personally, I'm thrilled to see Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor on this list (because, as other posters have said, they have topped Lesbianation's list for a long time), and thrilled to see that folks such as Elizabeth Mitchell, Gina Gershon, and Jordana Brewster have made the list. Go ladies!
I certainly enjoyed most of the list, and love the top choices especially the 1-2 punch of Leisha Hailey and Angelina Jolie!
Now if only AFTER ELLEN could come out with a one time special edition magazine of this list, to let the rest of the world know what lesbians like in their women!
I'm sure it was "fun" weeding through all of the choices, and hard to stop the list at 100-I wonder what the rest of the list had it gone on would have looked like? There were so many names that were missing from this list that deserved to be ranked among the top 100-of course I'm sure that many of the people (myself included) had problems remembering all the women we love and admire when we wrote down our choices...
The best list ever!! All of my favorites were there plus all of the ones I'd overlooked! This'll show all the straight dudes.... ha! Oh, and of course thanks to the AfterEllen team for counting all of the votes! Great job!!!!!! You made my day :]
Let's remember how much work would have gone into making this list. I wanted Kate Mulgrew, but that's not everyone's taste, just as Alexandra Hedison isn't everyone's tatse.
I'm incredibly pleased that Rosie O'Donnell wasn't on that list!
Once again, thanks to the staff who worked on this list, it really shows how much of a wonderfully diverse group of women we really are.
My girlfriend and I sat squealing over the list but we had one question - who chose the pictures?!? Some of them were horrendous! Wanton sex goddesses like Emma Thompson, Helen Mirren ect... looked like men in drag! It broke our hearts!
My girlfriend would also like to point out that clearly, the order was wrong. How did America Ferrerra rank above Penelope Cruz, or Scarlett Jo above Jackie W?
But THANK YOU so much AfterEllen for all the hard work that went into this list (And for Simone making the top 20! : )
At this point I don't think any of us even remember who chose which pictures. You'd be surprised what looks attractive when you've been up for 24 hours straight and just need one ... more ... photo. ;)
that lesbians have better taste in women than straight men. although i don't get the scarlet johannsen thing, or jessica alba/biel, halle berry, or the eliza dushku thing i found myself agreeing with 80-90 percent of the list over all (they are people who wouldn't make my list just they're not my taste unlike maxims who just didn't deserve it) and apparently even we can't shake the Lohan thing WHY i don't understand her appeal someone let me in on the secret. (actually don't)
i am upset that jemima didn't make the list but hey i guess we can't get everything at least their are no playmates. pets, or paris hiltons. good job ladies.
"But I dream of flight, not to be as the angels are, but to rise above te smallness of it all. The smallness that I am. Against the daily death the iconography of wings."
Renee O'Connor was way down the list which makes little sense to me. She's been the number 1 lesbian favorite on Lesbianation for years it seems like. Leisha at number 1 isn't bad, I just expected Renee to be in the top 10.
I still don't get what people see in Scarlett Johansson.
All I know is that I saw her in the movie "Stick It" which wasn't a great movie but it was ok. In the movie she's looks all sorta 'roughish' if there's such a word and normal. The next thing I knew is that I spotted her on the red carpet or some such place and when I saw her... I was COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY BY HOW GORGEOUS SHE IS. If you look at her in the movie and then 'outside' the movie... shiiiiitttt THE GIRL GOT IT GOING ON. It's like she just BLOSSOMED!!! it's the best term I can come up with after viewing soo many damn gorgeous women for the entire MORNING....!!!
Wow - I've learnt some things about her... I only knew her from Stick It but I see she's done a lot more than just that!!!
This list was supposed to be an answer to Maxim's boring list, instead of picking more choices outside of the box, you put like 5-15 Maxim usual subjects on here. Dull, unsexy Halle Berry? Scarlett Johanson? Carmen Electra? Lindsay Lohan!? Lindsay was hot maybe from the time she turned 18 to the first time she was hospitilized for "exhaustion."
so I think all of our comments about who we're disappointed that didn't make the list only further proves our lesbianism. we love women so much that we just want to see them all.
But, wait a minute. I thought a woman’s attractiveness wasn’t a competitive sport. I thought you were so vast and so different and so strange and so wonderful in such vast, different, strange and wonderful ways that to make a list of the top 100 would be ridiculous.
Why was it again that I thought that? I forget.
Oh right, it was because your own dorothy snarker just said exactly that not even one month ago.
Hypocrits, the lot of ya.
That said, Jordana Brewster is incredibly hot, and entirely under-appreciated as such.
Jeff, you're obviously new here, so perhaps there are some things about this site that you just haven't realized yet. This is a site by and for lesbian and bisexual women.; it is not by straight men for straight men, about lesbian and bisexual women. It is one of the few places on the Internet that is under no obligation to make sure that you (i.e. heterosexual males) are pleased with its content. If you aren't happy with what you see here, take your insults and your complaints to another site where they are wanted. We will flourish here with or without you.
We write what we believe to be missing from the mainstream arena. We talk about things that matter deeply to us, like political, societal, and religious issues. We give each other advice on all aspects of what it means to be a woman who loves women. And we also write more fun things, about our favorite movies, TV shows, and songs. But if you take the time to read some of the threads, you will still find insight, wit, and flashes of brilliance on these as well. Most of us come here wondering if it's just us, if we are alone in our feelings, if there couldn't be maybe one other person whose lives resemble ours. And here, we find each other. And we find that we have a lot in common and a great deal to learn from each other as well. There are no monolithic lesbian or bi women. Even if you broke us down by type, there will still not be one of us who is an accurate representative of each. This list is ours. Dorothy made a valid point when she wrote that she thought that our love for women was so complicated, so many-splendored, that it would be impossible for us to create a list like that of Maxim. Some users disagreed with her, and set about to prove her wrong. The results here show that they were successful in doing so. Dorothy issued a challenge by making such a statement, and we are all learning from the results. What anyone who spends time on AE eventually learns is the value of our differences, even within a perceived community.
And this is our community. We who live in every country and nearly every city in the world have found a singular home here on AfterEllen. You don't have to like our house, its color, its design, its landscaping. But you can't come into this house and tell us that you don't like the furniture we chose, and more than that, you believe we were hypocrites for choosing some of the same furniture that might be found in your house or the houses of some of your friends. There are women on this site representing every inhabited continent. This site was built by some of us for the benefit of all of us, and it is our contributions every day that help it to grow, not yours. You are more than welcome to read anything that is posted here; I do think that longterm exposure to the incredible women found here will change the mind of anyone about us. But this is not your house. It's ours, and we want it to stay that way. If you don't like the furniture, there are millions of other places that have some that is more to your liking. Spend your time there.
ENUFF SAID!!!! When I saw that comment yesterday, I was sooo pissed that I just decided to ignore it. And now reading this, I'm glad that I did. Thank you for voicing EXACTLY the way I feel (and I'm sure a lot of others). I could not have put it better even if I wanted to!
Give me a break!! That spoiled little twat should be banned to the woodshed until she grows up and learns how to behave like a civilized human being. At her current rate she will either be washed up or dead by the time she's 30. What a waste of a life.
Where in heavens' name is Mandana Jones? Simone Lahbib at 20 is perfect, but you really cannot say Simone's name without also visualizing Mandana. That alone makes the "list" very disappointing.
I'm sorry folks but this is just a regurgitated list of Maxim's top 100 but in a different order. There are a few additions and omissions but still not enough variety. Same hair, same posing, same look, same style. Same Same Same. Can we please broaden our definition of beauty?
I can look at the top 100 and say "Yes that person is good looking" but I can't relate to this list. Without getting too deep on this issue, it would be nice to see this generation's definition of beauty embrace women of color. Specifically black women. I'm not pumping my fist in the air and screaming black power but I'm sick of feeling that black women are unappreciated and overlooked.
Maybe someday we can get beyond the orange tan and collagen lips.
I was nodding my head with approval throughout the whole dang list. Sure, some could be ranked higher/lower than others, but I'm pretty pleased with the results. Highlights for me include: Leisha Hailey (yes, yes, YES to her #1 ranking), Kate Winslet (exquisite), Lena Headey, Jennifer Beals, Elizabeth Mitchell, Emily Blunt, Erin Daniels (I'm still bitter about her fate on the L Word), Helen Mirrin (love her in Losing Chase), Maura Tierney, Jennifer Connelly, Lauren Lee Smith...
....and I squealed in delight when I saw Deanna Casaluce (#91) from the Canadian television show Degrassi listed. Thud. Just... thud. It's all I can say about her, AND her portayal of Alex on that show. Omissions? I have such a crush on Katharine McPhee it's not even funny, so she's really the only one I can think of right now (I'm sure others will come later, but my brain's fried.) Oh, I wouldn't have put Lindsey Lohan or Carmen Electra on the list. Yucky.
Haha
Very true...and those others certainly did take my mind off of her. I was in Heaven lookin over that list! I was soooo happy Piper made it.I heart her lol

Good list
silly me........
You're not the only one
I'm a HUGE Kathryn Morris fan, votes for her, and deeply dissapointed she's not on the list.
I personally would add Charisma Carpenter and Amy Acker, drop Lohan & Clarckson.
:)
Lovely ladies!
One question though, what about Sarah Bettens? She is amazingly hot, a womyn and her voice gets you to the point of O in 0.2sec's...
Some other to consider, Ellaine Cassidy - Maud Lilly in the series by Sarah Waters, Fingersmith. And, i agree, Alexandra Hedison!
But, very nice...It couldn't have been better, thanx a million!

The List
Yay! Leisha! I would have thought that Lucy Liu and Portia de Rossi would have made it higher.
Who I think is hot and not on the list: Alex Hedison, Amy Poehler and Aishwarya Rai
Evangeline Lilly
Someone should have lighted that picture of Ms. Lilly differently. It looks like she got LOST on that island without a razor to do her pits.

Hah!
I needed that laugh but that's all I can see in that picture now!
...Well, not really.

so much - heaven on the web. A fantastic showing from the Brits!! Go girls.
So many I recognise - and many I don't, but very much look forward to discovering more. It beats the lads-mags lists hands down. For women, by women.
Oh, what great taste we have ;o)
