Tumblr is a hotbed of lesbian activity and my time honored hobby. My love affair with Tumblr began three years ago, during my senior year of college, when I finally summoned the courage to come out. When a girlfriend told me about tumblr, I created an account and was slowly transfixed by this strange and different world where actual real life lesbians from around the nation proudly talked about life and socialized with each other. Tumblr became my secret outlet and I came out on Tumblr long before most of my friends. On Tumblr, for the very first time, I began to write. Frankly I had no one else to talk to. After I came out my friends drifted away, and I let them. Being gay meant losing a community. Tumblr replaced that community. It was isolated and it was blissfully, wonderfully, all mine.
On Tumblr I discovered beautiful, cool girls who happened to be gay and who I adoringly cyber stalked. Through them I learned lesbian culture and found answers to questions I hadn’t even thought to ask yet. Back then I was ashamed of my little secret (my former friends and later frenemies laughed and mocked the habit), and while I wanted so bad to eliminate the shameful site I couldn’t. It meant so much. It was my story. But enough with the sentimentality. Three years later, I’m still a daily Tumblr user and follow some amazing lesbian tumblrs that range from aesthetic to informational to just hella hot girls. Here are top ten favorite lesbian Tumblrs.
Model Lesbians is run by Kathryn Greenbaum, a photographer and DJ in Brooklyn, NY. “I think at the core, I’ve always been really inspired by Helmut Newton’s photography and his approach to female sexuality in photographs,” Kathryn said. “Other points of inspiration include but are not limited to motorcycles, leather, geometry, boobs and contemporary art.” Her site does have a striking and addictive aesthetic that’s sexy without trying way too hard to be sexy. Kathryn said, “I’d describe my tumblr as a bit of a wank bank, but ultimately I think it’s really just an expression of this aesthetic of raw imagery and sexuality that I really like.”
2. Sapphoria
“Back when Tumblr was first starting out, there was a lot less diversity and variety,” said the owner, who prefers to remain anonymous. “Most lesbian blogs were either male-oriented erotica, or personal blogs of women that posted a wide variety of content. I love photography, and have been impressed by how right the images of women together seemed to me. It seemed natural, beautiful, and I thought I wanted to share this feeling I had with others and it appeared that this was a niche that was open in the tumblr community at the time. I wanted to show others how positive and perfect intimacy between two women could be. So my original purpose was to simply portray positive images of women in some sort of intimate, personal relationship.”3. The Lesbian Guide “A guide to all things lesbian. A place for your questions and the answers to them.” The Lesbian Guide is just that, a guide, where a team of capable lesbians are available to answer questions and update their many followers on anything and everything to do with being a girl who likes girls.
4. Lezbhonest LezBHonest is a pop culture tumblr dedicated to (what else?) lesbian life. Here you’ll find Orange is theNew Black GIFs galore, National Center for Lesbian Rights posters, famous lesbian couples, not famous lesbian couples who are just hot, and of course the occasional kitty kat. What’s not to love?
5. Boyish GirlsIf you’re a girl who looks like a “boy” (not me) or a girl who likes girls who looks like bois (me) then you need to hit up boyish girls. There’s quite a few Tumblrs dedicated to androgyny because androgynous girls are sexy as hell, but BoyishGirls is my favorite and I’ve been following them for all time. They also take submissions, so if you wanna cruise for girls on Tumblr you’ve come to right place. Without feeling sleazy.
As a single lesbian, adorable lesbian couples gives me both hope and acute jealously. However I am mature so I won’t let my perpetually single ennui get in the way of promoting an amazing site that shows lesbian couples of all ages and races. It’s fantastic to see real lesbian relationships portrayed as not just natural, but beautiful. I like this site because it features self-submitted pictures of lesbian couples proud to show themselves together.
SuicideBlonde is the behemoth of lesbian Tumblrs, an artistic and meticulously curated site that is uber famous in the Tumblrverse, and not just among lesbians. The site is run by a lesbian couple who also run Bohemea, Homicidal Brunette, Pussy Le Queer, and a handful of other lesbian/art sites. It is the H&M of online lesbian content, and the duo take great pride in meticulously sourcing content scoured from sources online and offline alike.
Ok, so Suicide Girls isn’t a lesbian Tumblr per say… It’s a naked alt-girl pin up site set up by the Gods of Naked Alt Girl pinups. It may be not be just for lesbians, but I’ve never seen a single wang so it’s all good with me. I take great joy in scrolling through this Tumblr at work because teehee I’m looking at naked girls at work.
9. lez-it-up
“I love AfterEllen, so so so much!” said the owner of Lezitup, a bright and colorful page dedicated to helping lezzies and spreading girl on girl love. “I’d never expected to get this many followers when I first started this blog,” she continues “and to this day I still get more and more followers and each and everyone of them are wonderful.” Lezitup is a positive resource for lesbians to find answers or just pictures of cute couples!
