“Sarah Landon” investigates spooks

I just watched the trailer for Sarah Landon and the Paranormal Hour, a movie that claims to be “the first in a series of Sarah Landon Mysteries.” I hadn’t even heard of it before now, but the trailer isn’t bad. It sort of reminds me of The Watcher in the Woods, which remains one of my favorites even though it and I are so ancient. (But come on: Bette Davis.)

Sarah Landon and the Paranormal Hour stars newcomer Rissa Walters. I can’t quite assess her acting skills based on the trailer alone, but I like the fact that the character seems bookish and real. Could she be the female Encyclopedia Brown I’ve been waiting for? (Of course, Sally Kimball was just as interesting.) Here’s the trailer:

The official website asks, “What will happen … between midnight and 1:00 a.m.?” It’s nice to see that question asked in reference to a ghost story, rather than in a what-was-in-that-brownie way or in any setting that involves Kiefer Sutherland. The film is set in the fictional town of Pine Valley. Wait: Isn’t that where Bianca lives, er, lived? Now it’s even scarier. Sarah Landon and the Paranormal Hour premieres October 26.
