Sandra Bernhard was an important part of the progressive, feminist legacy of the ’80s sitcom Roseanne. When her character, Nancy, came out, she opened the door for many storylines discussing gay identity and homophobia. Nancy thinks that Dan doesn’t like her, and Roseanne soon realizes she is right.

Nancy is heartbroken when Arnie leaves her, especially when he claims he was abducted by aliens.

When Arnie returns for Nancy, he learns that she’s a lesbian.

Leon hosts a Halloween party with his gay friends and pays a lot of attention Fred. Nancy thinks she’s onto him.
