Orange is the New Black and Jason Collins are the latest honorees announced for Logo’s Trailblazers special on June 26, joining Windsor v. United States plaintiff Edie Windsor and attorney Roberta Kaplan, and special presenter Daniel Radcliffe.
Celebrating pioneers who have led the charge for LGBT equality, the one-hour Trailblazers special includes activists, celebrities, politicians and personalities who are transforming the cultural landscape.
The show coincides with the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling dismantling the Defense of Marriage Act, and the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.
Orange is the New Black’s casting choices, honest storylines and unfaltering sense of humor have provided the world with a better understanding of the LGBT community and given a platform to a range of talented new voices.
Cast member Laverne Cox, one of the first transgender stars of a mainstream TV series, just graced the cover of Time magazine.
“It is an honor to be included in the company of Edie Windsor and Roberta Kaplan in Logo’s celebration of our progress towards LGBT equality,” said Collins. “We are proof that the actions we make, big or small, can have a positive, global impact on our community.”
Last May, Collins announced he was gay in a Sports Illustrated cover interview, the first male in a pro team sport to do so. Since then, Collins has signed with the New York Nets, gained legions of new fans across the world, and was named one of Time ’s 100 Most Influential People.
Daniel Radcliffe, a longtime supporter of the LGBT community and the Trevor Project, will help honor four Trailblazing Youths, who are making a positive impact in their local communities.
Also in attendance will be Tegan and Sara, A Great Big World, Against Me! front woman Laura Jane Grace and ex-NFL player Wade Davis—with special appearances by Jared Leto, Kylie Minogue, Ariana Grande, Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea, Tyler Glenn, Mary Lambert and other celebrity guests.
But it’s not all about boldface names: Trailblazers will also pay tribute to local heroes with Hometown Trailblazers, an initiative inviting fans to nominate friends, family and civic leaders who are pioneers in their local communities. Five nominees will be featured on the Trailblazers website, with one honoree attending with their person who submitted their name. (You can nominate a Hometown Trailblazer here.)
Tune in to the inaugural Trailblazers special June 26 at 9pm, only on Logo.
