With a whole new slew of characters in a world we have visited in Once Upon A Time , the shows are intended to live independently of one another, with the potential for some character crossover.
From an Examiner interview with the executive producers, it sounds like Wonderland will open where Once Upon A Time‘s Season 2 began — after the curse destroyed most of the Enchanted Forest, while the wraith was terrorizing everyone. Just like OUAT, the show will jump around between present-day and flashbacks.
The show will star English/Australian actress Sophie Lowe (who was up for the part of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) as Alice.
According to ABC’s website, also cast so far is English actress Emma Rigby as the Red Queen (not to be confused with the Queen of Hearts) and John Lithgow will be the voice of the White Rabbit. (IMDb incorrectly lists PeeWee Herman as the voice of the White Rabbit and I got nervous I would be too afraid to watch the show. That guy gives me the heebie jeebies.)
Check out this sneak preview of the new series posted today on ABC’s official website:
Looks like little Alice is all grown up. (Plus, HELLO Red Queen. It is very nice to meet you. And your outfit.)
I don’t know about you, but I will be wishing on the brightest star that, between these two shows and the number of characters potentially doubling, a queer character will appear. I mean, they’ve already proven that they are willing to twist and bend traditional fairytales to their will — i.e. Jack and the Beanstalk being female, Peter Pan being evil, etc. I love subtext shipping as much as the next girl, but I think they should have a little rainbow magic in Wonderland.
Has Once Upon A Time in Wonderland sparked your interest? Any new fairytale characters you hope our new Wonderland friends run into?
