Olivia Wilde strips for “Butter”

What do butter-carving competitions, Presidential primary allegories, Iowan accents, Bettie Page hairdos and tattooed strippers have in common? If you answered Olivia Wilde you are a very good and very odd guesser. According to Movieline, the House star has been cast in the new satirical comedy Butter as – you guessed it – a tattooed stripper with a Bettie Page hairdo. The comedy stars Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell as the reigning Iowa butter carving champion. Because he is term-limited out (I know, just go with it), his wife (played by Jennifer Garner) decided to compete herself. But in her path to buttery glory stand a young African American orphaned girl (newcomer Yara Shahidi). And guess what? The whole movie is an allegory for the 2008 Democratic primary where newcomer Barack Obama beat former First Lady Hillary Clinton. No, I’m not kidding. Olivia plays Ty’s mistress. So, apparently, Bubba has traded cigars for butter. Rounding out the cast is Alicia Silverstone, who will play Shahidi’s adoptive mom, and Hugh Jackman, who will play a former flame of Jennifer’s. No, I’m still not making any of this up.

Olivia is clearly preparing for the role. Over the weekend she tweeted her followers asking for any Iowans to post videos of their accents on YouTube. Now that’s a clever way to harness the power of Twitter.

The 26-year-old will be all over the big screen soon. In November her Paul Haggis-helmed thriller, The Next Three Days, come out, followed by the long-awaited sequel Tron Legacy in December. She is filming Cowboys & Aliens with Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford. And now Butter. I know it’s wrong to typecast Olivia as the sexy girl in every role, but I can’t be the only one who is hyperventilating at the thought of seeing Olivia play a tattooed stripper with Bettie Page bangs? Or maybe I just have a thing for Iowan accents.
