News, Reviews & Commentary on Lesbian and Bisexual women in Entertainment and the Media

Well I watched it again and loved it. Only gripe was that the picture didn't fit my screen even though I changed the screen resolution and it wasn't subtitled.

I didn't really notice the picture until Alice said to Dana something like "thats if you get any" and Dana flipped Alice the bird - the bird was off screen!!

Still at least it is being shown. Not sure how big the ratings will be though - should have been on Channel 4 I think.

There is an article in todays issue of "The Sun" about "The L Word". I can;t scan it but this is what it said:

LES WATCH THIS! (original Roll Eyes)

EXPLICIT LESBIAN DRAMA THAT ROCKED US TO HIT OUR SCREENS
These are the sensational sexy scenes from a lesbian drama set to hit TV screens (pics are of MK, JB, LH, EM all naked and having sex). Raunchy new show The L Word begins on British telly next week. It shocked America with constant nudity, a threesome and oral sex. The first episode on Living TV on Wednesday includes a steamy pool romp. The drama, about eight girls in LA, was dubbed "Same Sex and The City" (can't even get the tagline right Mad). Flashdance star Jennifer Beales plays art gallery owner Better, who is trying for a baby with female lover Tina."

OK, is it me or does this not sound like the show we all love. I know there is a lot of nudity, sex etc but its all balanced out by romance, humour and terrific characters that we actually care about. This article just made it sound sleazy I think. I dunno, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Cogent and Lusciouslolly - thanx for confirming that I am not cracking up or nit picking Smile

Why Living can't broadcast in widescreen is beyond me. It is however pointing out just how addicted I am though cos I know what is happening offscreen!!

I really gotta get a life doh

spaks's picture

I dithered in the newsagents recently for ages when i saw the girls on the cover, will I, wont I?? I eventually decided that it would probably still be utter shite inside. Glad to hear my decision was justified!!

Living tv+1 is on NTL, and it's somewhere embedded amongst all the crazy radio stations at the end.
It's channel 922 :) so that means you can either watch the L word repeat today at 10:50 or 11:50 (I think) wooo! :)

Carol's picture

UK Living TV is repeating both series 1 & 2 of The L Word back to back this Saturday (24th September) at 11.30pm. The pilot episode immediately follows The Emmys.

By my reckoning screening all the episodes will take us to mid March or beginning of April if it breaks for Christmas. By then we should know when we will get series 3.......yippee! :D

cogent53's picture

Started watching the show on UK Living the other week and am instantly addicted! Spent last week downloading the eps via Bit Torrent and I sat and watched about 5 eps today!!

UK Living broadcasts in fullscreen, and as the show is filmed in widescreen, they just chop the sides off! It was very noticable in Tim's party in ep 2.

I immediately raced to the net to read all about the show! Thanks...isn't the internet wonderful! (Nearly as wonderful as Karina Lombard Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin)

Hey Debs, Lolly here!
No, you don't 'gotta get a life' - why should we watch something that is not in the format it was intended is beyond me. WAKE UP Livingtv, for goodness sake... dunno
The more you get into this series the more addicted you become, so beware and be forewarned, if it hasn't already started you're in for a hellava ride. woowoo

Yeah, has anyone seen the Radio Times blurb- because that isn't too flattering either. In the pick of the week type section at the beginning they call it groundbreaking TV, but then in the actual programme description in the pick of the day it just seems to go on about there being lots of sex Frown

Finally saw the trailer though- and I saw one on Sky One yesterday afternoon when I was watching Star Trek! Woohoo- The L Word is everywhere!

And only a few days to go cheerleader

Pammy79's picture

You can get it through Sky Digital or other digital providers - but for the life of me I can't think of any more! puzzling

lusciouslolly's picture

I reckon some one needs to tell those twats at Livingtv to get their minds right and broadcast the show how it was produced - in widescreen! I agree, having seen the DVD version from the USA from Showtime, this version sucks big time. You're missing a fair bit, trust me!

I've yet to see the trailer !!! I try and tune into Living when I know the adverts are on. Perhaps I'll have to try harder. Don't know why I am so desperate to see the trailer when I've been watching the show over and over and over since it began!!! LOL!!!

There was an interview with Jennifer Beales in You Magazine on Sunday and it gave the start date as 1st September.

It seems weird that it's taken so long to get here and we're only just starting the hype! I'm lucky enough to have seen it already and am now anxiously awaiting Season 2!

There's a TV program called "100 greatest TV treats of 2004" showing on Channel 4 the other night. The L word ranked 42 on the list. I suppose in this heterosexual world, the result might represented some degree of significance  .

Hey everyone! We need to do something!! :x

I e-mailed Living TV the other day to ask when they were going to show us Season 2 of The L Word and this was their reply:

[quote:53e898dbdc]Hi Laura

Thanks for your email

At present there are no plans to show the second series of "THE L WORD"

Please keep an eye on the channel and the website for further
information and updates

Kind Regards

LIVINGtv
[/quote:53e898dbdc]

I think they may just be waiting to see what happens when it is shown in the U.S. before committing themselves to a second season - however if you want it back on again I think we need to say so!! I have e-mailed them requesting it again and it would be great if all those who want it back could do the same! Hopefully the more we ask then we will get!

So to all those who live in the UK and want it back, or you live outside the UK and think we should get it back, then you can e-mail them at enquiries@livingtv.co.uk, or you can go to their web-site at www.livingtv.co.uk and click on "Contact us" at the bottom right hand side of the screen.

Thank you to all!!

Ickle_lez's picture

Has anyone heard anything about the L Word being shown on terrestrial UK or Irish television?

libertine's picture

laura_bubble that's a great idea, I e-mailed LIVINGtv and I got exactly the same reply, but if everyone e-mails them, at least they'll get the message.
