The Weekly Geek: Could Captain Janeway "Trek" Again?Star Trek Voyager fans, prepare to have your heart rates accelerated to warp speed. Kate Mulgrew, the actress who portrayed the wonderful, dynamic, possibly lesbionic Captain Kathryn Janeway, has expressed an interest in appearing in a new Star Trek film. The Geek Files blog has the scoop: Asked by Sci Fi Now if she'd consider a role in the new films, she said: "I would, I'd love to return to Janeway. I'd love to do her in a movie. I think he'd be wise to do it, don't you? He should get me and Picard in there. It's a brilliant idea.”
The latest Star Trek film covered its tracks in re-launching the “original” series with Kirk, Spock and the gang — but it also allowed for the possibility for other characters in the universe to appear. With a touch of creative sci-fi imagining, Picard and Janeway could totally make cameos. Writer/director JJ Abrams is apparently cool with the idea of allowing the multi-generational mixing: “’Now that we are in a parallel existence with what fans of the original series love so much, we could introduce any number of characters, settings, references and situations that the original series introduced.’”
Now, of course, Janeway and company weren’t part of the original series, which takes place about a century before the continued events from the Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager TV series, and the subsequent Next Generation era movies. But they’re all part of the same universe, and hell, this is science fiction — anything can happen. I say, bring on the powerful female captain! While we’re at it, can we request that Seven of Nine be included with the Janeway? If so, can they please, finally get it on? It’s just a thought. Of course, if you’re not interested in mixing the complicated “canon” storyline, or not into Trek at all, then let me attempt to appease you with a “found” photograph from another era (and another galaxy, far away) entirely. The Sci Fi Wire posted this little gem just yesterday. They look very comfortable, wouldn’t you say?
Finally, I just wanted to mention that the beloved children’s series Sesame Street just celebrated its 40th birthday this week. In order to commemorate the occasion, Sci Fi Wire posted a collection of clips that recall the best sci-fi moments of the show. Be sure to check out the “Ernie and Bert meet the Martians” video for a quick (and adorable!) look at TV’s first gay couple — and their encounter with friendly space aliens. Janeway is a badass
Hell yeah!
Janeway is the first really stong female character I remember watching on TV, and I so wanted to be her...or with her, I'm still not sure haha
It would be really cool if she came back but I would want it to be a proper storyline, not 'oh look she wants back in, lets do a flash-forward to the future' or have her dream it all or something really crap and cheesy like that!!
But yeah, bring on the Janeway! And personally, I would want Torres with Janeway more than Seven!
I'd rather...
Have a new series. It's about time. Voyager had its moments, but really wasn't comparable to The Next Generation. Enterprise had a slow start, but the show got really good in the final two seasons. It got a bum wrap from the first season though.
Don't get me wrong, a movie would be nice, but I'd really rather a new series. SciFi is big now, it's time for a new Star Trek series.

ZOMG
Eh, whatever
About the only good thing about Voyager was the fodder for J/7 fic writers, some of whom were 1000 times better writers than the show's. I can't imagine how they would screw the character up further if TPTB randomly inserted her into the next awful ST movie.
I'll stick with my DS9 videos (the best ST series by far) and J/7 fic.
Janeway Jingle All The Way . . .
to the bank! Voyager (how about "Now Voyager" for a sequel:) with Janeway at the helm as a lead - not a co-lead with Kirk - this would clash. No, we need Janeway and crew in their own epic space romp!
Engage and make it so!

:]:]:]I used to watch bits
:]
:]
:]
I used to watch bits of Star Trek when my dad was watching it and i was bored, when i was little..
I totally had a crush on her and didn't realise. recently i found out when i get decent signal i can watch voyager! i still like her :) my dad pretended he forgot all about star trek, i think he felt geeky. i told him i knew he remembered really. he prefers 7 of 9. i did not like her, though didn't give her much of a chance. she is basically naked (with a tight leotard). which always eerked me out a little..
i saw some interview on YT where Kate is like 'some ppl would prefer to see janeway get with 7of9 rather than (dudes name).. :D :D
Soo. I like her lots :)
Also, AElton had a photo of her and NPH out togethers
...
what is it about her? she is powerful and a has a nice kinda low voice :)she always made her crew feel safe. if it was real i think i'd kinda wanna get hurt/in trouble so she'd be concerned for me, lol. a hug would be enough to make me a happy crewmember lol
possible the geekiest message i wrote. so tired my brain thinks its drunk..
oh and her looks, i forgot that somehow, lol

Okay, so ST: VOY wasn't TNG
Okay, so ST: VOY wasn't TNG or DS9 (or even TOS), but I still enjoy reruns (if I'm up that late, lol). Must've seen all the eps from ALL the shows several times over...
I think the "new" Star Trek movies (Abrams') could use an injection of strong, capable female characters -- too much testosterone for my liking, the movie was so-so for me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy action movies, but... this is Star Trek, people.
Maybe we'll see something more in the next flicks, who knows... so bring on Capt Janeway :)
Janeway
Oh, I would sooo love to see Janeway get it on with Blanna Torres! I would settle for 7 of 9 but Torres and Janeway would be the hottest !! And truthfully, I thought that's where the series was going before they introduced the 7 of 9 character. Then I thought, well, ok, if they're going to go that way I can mentally adjust : ) But then, they chickened out of that too!! That series had so much potential, but they squandered it on Commander Lovestotalkabouthimself, and fratboy wannabe!
Hmmm, not likely...
...Even with Sci-fi pretzel logic at hand. Abrams has gone so far into re-invention (and done it well, I happily admit) - that I don't see him coming up with some tortured time thingy just to trot out veteran Trek actors. Nimoy was probably an exception, cause well, he's Spock, dammit.
Having said that: Love Janeway. Love me some J/7. That subtext coupling is a fav. Have very fond memories. And if they maybe showed up with an unknown butt-kicking sultry voiced great-great-whatever relative of Janeway - I wouldn't be unhappy.
*sigh* Now I'm gonna go and play with my action figures.
Amen.
"If so, can they please, finally get it on?"
Very occasionally, if you pay attention, life doesn't suck.

It Would Be Awesome
To see Janeway back, but interesting to see just how much of a role they could give her. Admiral Janeway seems somewhat mellow compared to Captain Janeway...
And although some might think it's time for a new series, Enterprise came out what, two years ago? SciFi was popular back then as well and it still wasn't popular enough for Enterprise to take off. Thereagain, the premise of the show was rather... lacking. If they did another series, it would be great to see them go beyond the four quadrants. Like, what is there beyond Alpha, Beta, Gamma & Delta?
-goes back to swooning over pictures-
I like Voyager the best.
I like Voyager the best. Maybe thats coz of my age though, all the rest look so dated. It's hard to me to watch them. And female captain ftw!
Has anyone else watched Mercy? I had no idea Kate Mulgrew was gonna be in it, then there she pops up on the screen all white trashy alcoholic with a bad accent. I literally screamed outloud 'OMG What have they done to Janeway!!!'
"Mercy" ??
Do tell. I don't know about that one. Is it a current series, movie, what have you?
Trashy Mulgrew would be worth checking out!
Mercy
It's on NBC on Wednesday nights at 8pm here on the Eastcoast.
She plays the mother of the main character. She's a trashy alcoholic who has a beehive type hair and tight spandexy clothes Think Peg Bundy but sexy and well... Kate. LOLL
It was picked up for the full season and supposedly her character will get more air time. They are thinking of writing in that her husband will be diagnosed with Alzheimers.
A Peg Bundy type?
LMAO. That's quite the image!
Thanks for the tip!
I <3 this
Voyager wasn't brilliant but it was entertaining, and better than Enterprise, at least. I could totally get behind the idea of Janeway in the 'new timeline' (although the complete disregard for the way time travel was depicted before is still a little annoying) and if Picard showed up, I'd be very disappointed if Sisco wasn't invited to the Captain party, too. I can't see a way around it coming out even more campy and hilarious than intended and likely detracting from the plot, but I don't really care. The awesome would make up for it.
Yeah, I had to go upload my Halloween costume pic for this but it's not showing up, yet.
"If you're wondering how he eats and breathes / And other science facts / Then repeat to yourself 'It's just a show, / I should really just relax."
Just to say...
I would love to see Kate in
Kate Mulgrew is such a class act...
If you go to YouTube and type in Star Trek Voyager, not only can you watch episodes of the show, but see DVD extras featuring an interview with Kate Mulgrew, where she talks about how she got the role of Janeway, and how much she loved playing her.
I say, bring this class act back any way you can.
Needs me some Janeway...
OMG! Yes bring back Janeway! Kate Mulgrew is an incredible actress. Janeway was an incredible character who kicked ass and took names.
Bring her back.
Yes yes yes yes yes
Your pic
Mine too :-) obviously ^^
