discrimination at local eatery
to brief you all on this subject, el paso, tx is a medium sized city in west texas. it lies along the border of the u.s. and mexico, we have a fairly diverse poputlation. there are a lot of mexican immigrants, a lot of military (meaning non el paso natives), a lot of mixed races, etc. our current sheriff is the former police chief and he is also gay and out (not sure if he is out be choice or not). my gf works for the sheriff's dept and she is not out at work. chico's tacos is a local eatery which is supposedly and el paso "legend." their food is ok, i guess. the following link is to the locan news station, the security guards at chico's kicked out two gay men for kissing in the restaurant. not fondoling each other, not heavily making out, not humping each other, just for kissing. i am deeply saddened by all of this, mostly because of the negative responses that we have gotten from the community. i'm not really expecting any responses, i just want to share this story so everyone can be aware of the fact that even in our kick ass country (which i mean with all my heart, i am so, so, so very prooud to be an american) there is still a lot of ignorance.

there are also more links pertaining to the story on the side lines. i've actually tried to stay away from the story as much as possible because of how deeply i've been hurt by my "community."
