You can join a network of your region, work, school, etc. There are thousands of people on facebook, and while some people add friends to look more "popular" there are actually quite a few people you can maintain contact with, even if they are not in close proximity anymore. You may make your profile as private or as open as you would like it. I completely recommend it as a college student, but I have other friends who I keep in contact with who are not in school with me. I think my main addiction is to groups. Some of them are really hilarious. You can tell a lot by a someones group list. For example, if you're in the "It's Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" group I know that you're an ass. I just came across that group recently. That is not the most offensive group I've seen, but I'll spare the rest of you from further proof that people suck.

I love facebook so much. For whoever said they didn't know how to add people, just pop their name in the bx in the top left and when the list of people matching that name comes up, then go to add as a friend.
I'm not so sure about opening it up beyond universities either, it kind of removes the feeling of it being safe...but at least peeople can't see your profile if you're not int eh same network or their friend, that's something.

I am a 5th-year senior. I changed majors halfway through my 4th year, so whatever. I'm glad to be a music technology major instead of a stuffy bored English major anyway. Our WS department pretty much sucks; my ex had to get approval to be a WS major since it isn't on the books yet.
I am a proud addicted user of facebook, one of the few things I am addicted to, the poke is interesting, its one of those things you cannot figure out. I guess thats the nice part about it. Although I must say that I feel violated when someone I don't know pokes me. What exaclty are they poking? How hard are they poking? What about the time Facebook tried to insitute a human poker? hmmm, they may have went to far on that one! I truly think that the poke has more power than us humans will be able to figure out. The mere fact that its able to unearth such feelings shows its power.
I poke strangers, I figure if they didn't like it they'd just stop poking back. The worst thing you can do is reciprocate a poke you don't mean it. That's what I call a poke tease...
Poke Teasers are so shall we say 2004!But it is something I aspire to, maybe poking people with my same first and last name is project I have not devoted any time to. It's my way of stealing back my dignity. I do wish that the poke could be revamped, maybe institute the time and day of the poke. I may go to Zuckerberg with this query! I think it will mitigate some of the violation I feel. Although I do question where that poke goes when you click the obscure "hide poke" icon. I often contemplate it until the wee hours of the morning, or while I am procrastinating ( like I am doing now). Oh Poke you puzzle me with no ease. I may need a black jesus for this one.
