I saw this article about softball and got really confused...

I was browsing around and I happened upon this article. If someone has brought this up before I appologize. It really sent me on a spin because having the same background as most of the athletes that they are talking about I had a completely different experience and I know no one who has had a similar experience to what is described in the article. I am sure something like this could have happened but I was not aware that it was as rampant as they make it sound. Frankly, I am slightly offended but mostly mistified. Maybe I just grew up in the wrong softball programs. My experience was always that we, the lesbians, were the ones who felt uncomfortable in our surroundings. My high school coach who was actually coached by my dad when she was a player flat out told us, in the most disgusted tone she could manage, that if any of us were lesbians we would be kicked off of the team ASAP. This is the reason our team was deprived of a very great asset in my friend who never made the team because she was out. I suppose I was just thrown by the spin that has been put on the subject here. Oi Vey....

I don't play softball, but I know for a fact that the vast majority of our school's team is straight. Moreover, I don't see the article's point.

"Oooh, there are lesbians in softball. Which means, you guys, that they like girls. OMG!!"

 I mean seriously? The problem with lesbian softball players is that they're "clique-ish"? Didn't that word become defunct after middle school?

If softball was some kind of lesbian Mecca, where all straight girls were vilified and sexually pursued, then why does even Ms. Lopez's more liberal (or hyperbolic) estimate of the percentage of lesbian softball players only come to 1/3 the total? Doesn't that keep gay girls in the minority?

For now there are all small amount of lesbians in soft ball, but one by one the straight girls will be turned. For its in the plan. Common knowledge my friend, once we all gather together and turn straight girls gay by impressing them with our soft ball skills (which, inheretly all lesbians secretly have), there's no telling what we will do next with our army of gays. The human race will go instinct because we won't allow any external genitalia into our internal ones. Satan leads this march and once he's collected all the souls in the human race each lesbian will be reward with 20 innocent unsuspecting girls and an eternity of soft ball.

I am glad I am not alone in thinking that this was total rubbish. My ex who played both softball and vollyball had the same experience that I did and she played in a different state. Though she did tell me a funny story about a girl sliding into third and ending up on top of her. It happened to be the one softbales that was actually out. Apparently, the other players did some wolf calls.

Just because I am a lesbian does not mean that I want to watch you undress. I keep telling people that but they just seem to keep undressing in front of me.. lol Seriously though, if they are  intent on vilifying lesbian softball players just because they think we have no self control and want to eat them whole then I think its their discomfort is of their own production. They make it sound like there are bat weilding lesbian softball gangs waiting to make unwilling slaves of the straighties that want to play softball. 

If we really are turning all the straight lesbian softball players gay then I really want to be let in on this grand scheme! I have a few names I would like to put forward for conversion.

We should make a  bat weilding lesbian soft ball gang. That would be kickass.

Agreed, what should we call it? We should totally decide on what kind of uniforms to have. There must be a bandana incorporated somewhere.

I have never played softball, I was a cheerleader I don’t understand how some equate softball with Lesbianism?  Softball is the common denominator that’s plan a stereotype.  Once again my two cents is always free.

I have always assumed that it had to do with the masculine traits associated with softball. I actually saw the catcher for Stanford, Rosey Neill, spit in the dirt while on deck tonight. I've noticed a lot of players doing that and its someting that just comes natural to some players while in softball mode. It is an interesting sport filled with a mix of traditionally masculine habits and feminine touches. You certainly do walk differently while wearing cleats...lol. I think the agressiveness and getting dirty and taking knocks makes it seem to fit sterotypical lesbian behaviors. I really wish that I could see some college baseball players wearing the glitter headbands like the softball players do. I played on three different teams every summer with the same girls and we were all tough as nails, ready to get muddy, but at the end of the day we were girls... and I was the only gay one out of 20 or so. As I stated before we had mostly cheerleaders and dance girls. If you don't think cheerleaders have to be tough then pish on you. Okay.. I've had my rant. *sigh* Now, my tennis doubles partner in college and another girl on the team who was suspiciously mean to me... totally questionable. hah
