Hey ya'll...
I am writing today with a heavy heart. And for me no matter how
much the world seems to dissappoint me I always want to bounce back.
But this time is a little different.
I and another lesbian in the community were involved in a BRUTAL BEATING by ALL MALE COPS the 77th PRECINCT of the NYPD.
It took place at the IFE LOUNGE, corner of Nostrand & Atlantic
in Brooklyn. I know for a fact there were at least 100-200 woman
outside at the time and I am hearing rumors of video footage. LOOK
LADIES... IF YOU FIND CAN FIND A PARTY SO F-IN IMPORTANT, THAT YOU HAVE
THE TIME TO TELL A FRIEND TO TO TELL A FRIEND TO POST BULLETINS TO
EMAIL FLYERS. THEN I WOULD HOPE YOU WOULD HAVE THE TIME TO ASK A FRIEND
TO ASK A FRIEND TO ASK A FRIEND TO FIND PICTURES VIDEOS, WRITTEN
TESTIMONY TO SUPPORT THE FACT THAT TWO OF YOUR OWN WERE BEATEN IN THE
STREET BY POLICE!!!
NOT ONLY WERE WE BEATEN, COPS HURLED ANTI-GAY STATEMENTS AS THEY
RAISED THIER NIGHT STICKS IN THE AIR. LIKE "YOU FUCKIN BITCH ASS
DYKE"... AND THEN HAD THE AUDACITY IN FRONT OF THEIR OWN SEARGENT AND
THE REST OF THERE BROTHERS AND SISTERS SAY "WE ARE HAVIN SOME DYKE
PUSSY IN HERE TONIGHT"
Really ladies... This crime wasn't about me or about the other
female involved. As I laid there and I felt the night sticks hit me, I
thought of Martin Luther King, and what he had to endure just for us to
have the freedoms we do today. I immediately relaxed my body, put my
arms up where they can see I wasn't resisting, and screamed at the top
of my lungs for someone to hit record on there camera. As they pulled
me into the car I knew then that they picked the wrong quote unquote
"DYKE", to mess with.
TODAY!!! ITS TIME FOR US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! I don't know about
you, but I am absolutely tired of the way police, club owners &
bouncers treat us. If you didn't know what they think about YOU. I hope
you RECOGNIZE NOW, what it really is.
THIS IS WHAT WE NEED:
VIDEO FOOTAGE
PICTURE FOOTAGE
WRITTEN TESTIMONIES W/CONTACT INFORMATION
PLEASE EMAIL ME ASAP!!!
DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU IT ISN'T YOUR BUSINESS, IT IS. IF YOU
HANG WITH US, PRAY WITH US, IF YOU PARTY WITH US, IF YOU SHOW YOUR
PRIDE WITH US, THIS CRIME WAS COMMITTED AGAINST YOU AND MEMBERS OF YOUR
FAMILY.

oh my god,
im so sorry that this happened to you, i wish i lived in ny, but i dont. all i can say is that i applaud your braveness and please stay strong.
and youre right they messed with the wrong person, dont give up they will get theirs once you find a video.
No respect for police
Bastards. I guess the cops in the US are like those in Australia. Not to be trusted. They always disproportionately target those of ethnic and sexual minorities. I wish some lesbian there had a gun to shoot those losers in self defence.
Police have always targeted African Americans and Native Americans more t han other populations. That is the reason why African American crack is illegal but white crack isn't event though its more harmful.
I suggest that people who have any evidence hand it down and that we all complain to the anti-corruption POlice Commission (ANy ANew Yorkers to enlighten us on this) and leak this incident to liberal media outlets like huffington post or msn news. You should also alert LGBT commmunities in the area to plan some rallies and a candlelight vigil outside the police station. That is bound to draw some attention and if we can get some celebrity involved to support our cause that would be great.
Is it no wonder no one trusts the police these days. We can't trust them and any more power to them will turn the state, any state, into a police state. Those police should be sacked, stripped of their uniforms and publicly humiliated. It won't happen because of homophobia but it should.
Any LGBT police who can raise their voices against this and start an investigation?
whoa
First off, I'm terribly sorry for what has happened to the two ladies. Second, these recent brutal attacks on minorites(race, sexual) is starting to bug me big time. Something must be done and even though I don't live in NY, I will inform others.
And people wonder why I don't trust the police.
In 50 years people will ask "Lindsey who" but Natalie Wood will be indelible.
All those people....how the hell did they get away with it!?
Fuck man, that's ridiculous, I thought that by NOW the LGBT community could AT LEAST be tolerated I have never seen or heard of anything like this, I had no idea that so much hatred was out there, it saddens me greatly and I am so very sorry for you (the emailer) and your friend and applaud you for being so brave I know I would have broken down....I'm afraid I'm not even from America but I hope and prey that someone will come forward with evidence....those pathetic misogynistic idiots need to learn that they can't hide behind their badges and that we are human....(more so than them it seems), anyone who sees this and holds back evidence is really just holding us all back from being accepted....this can and unfortunatly will most probably happen again....someone needs to step up..
good luck x
POlice always discriminate
POlice always discriminate against minorities because they can get away with it and they have power. Not this time though. I know people of ethnic minorities who have had their car searched or themselves searched for no reason. Just because they happened to be out late at night. No wonder they have a strained relationship with ethnic and sexual minorities. Police have always been on the side of oppression and the oppressors and have hardly ever protected society's most vulnerbale members.
I really hope they get the video evidence they need. I'd help in any way I can but I live in NZ. I hope more NYers come forward.
I hope Barack Obama can fix this problem of racial and sexual discrimination. Not to mention the rife sexism, racism and homophobic in the police force.

How would they like it if their children got treated like that. They have treated these women no better than animals and it is disgraceful to see this is a "developed" and "civilized" country like America. Hopefully these people can develop mentally and emotionally as well as physically.
Amen
it is simply sad and pathetic and should not not continue.
90 people get the swine flu, everyone wears masks; Millions of people get AIDs, no one wears rubbers.
I would also like to say
That is exactly why
she wrote the post about Women of color and people thought it was racist to use the term and all this ignorant stuff(mind you they were white). you are completely right if this would had happen to a white or european woman CNN would be beating down her door whether they showed her face or not.
90 people get the swine flu, everyone wears masks; Millions of people get AIDs, no one wears rubbers.
when did this happen there's no date listed??
Criticism of this group of
Criticism of this group of male police officers does not mean criticism of all police officers. Aren't you disgusted by the behaviour of the police in this case? They can be taken to hospital but the police can always argue they were acting aggressively and the injuries occurred from trying to resist those people.
There is no excuse for what happened and the system should be reformed. You should know that. The police don't always do their role well and there is a lot of discretion used in who they charge and how and who they ignore. Don't try to simplify this situation because it involves one of your own. If this involved someone from my race or profession i would be just as harsh on them so this harsh judgement is not reserved for police only. Police brutality towards activists is legendary the world over. We looked at the way the police exercise their power in one of my subjects and it wasn't pretty. As a lesbian officer, shouldn't you be trying to reform that? Trying to bring t hese people to justice? It's interesting that you feel sympathy for the police officers who were attacking teh innocent lesbian rather than the lesbian itself. In self defence if it happened , it happened. Do you often mourn for the people killed in encounters? Why not? What about the innocent victims in the war against drugs, some who are killed for just consuming small amounts of drugs? How many innocent lives are rotting away in prisons because of this? How many dv offenders and rapists are let off easy? WHy should police be treated differently. If you abuse the power you are given you deserve to be punished.
If the police don't want to be stereotyped they need to work on healing their relationships with minority groups. I have a number of stories of police abuse of lesbians and women within their rank so its not just ethnic minorities either.
It's the same with most professions. You only hear about the corrupt politicians, or the dodgy lawyers or the negligent doctors. Why should there be extra sympathy for the police. If you want to be seen differently reform your system and the way police powers are abused. Or the way "move on", "search" powers are used disproportionately against minorities and stop the police from racially stereotyping minorities while minority police officers are abused. Be the change you want to see.
They shouldn't get stoned.
They shouldn't get stoned. Maybe get their licenses cancelled (which won't happen) and attend sensitivity training. Have a permanent mark on their records, which will make it hard for them to get employment. What are you doing to reduce minorities being falsely charged and arrested (and having a mark made in their records)?
I only bring up gones because they are legal and a lot of people believe they are a good way to make sure law enforcement don't infringe on people's personal freedoms.
BTW, are you trying to imply that this story is not wholly true by implying that the date isn't mentioned. Would you be as sympathetic if some other group had carried out these acts?
The LGBT communiy should know better.
I hope karma follows and those police officers get what's coming to them.
sensitivity training
are you serious? does that go along w/ jail time or not? that is completely absurd and throwing stones at them is a lot more humane than what i had in mind.
90 people get the swine flu, everyone wears masks; Millions of people get AIDs, no one wears rubbers
Sorry Mattluvznot I meant
Sorry Mattluvznot I meant they should get jailed, stripped of their uniform and suffer public humiliation (I wrote that they should be deported to Iran, another place where t he gov hates gays, and be stoned for a minor misdemeanour but I think i offended our resident lesbian policewoman so i deleted that part of the commen). In fact, I think her comment is in relation to my words. Basically, they should be treated like animals. Worse than ordinary criminals because they are police and they abused their position.
I love your quote btw :)
I totally agree with you and Zbornak about the woc thread. Being a woc myself it bothered me how many people wanted to reaffirm their whitenesss or Europeanness. I mean, couldn't they have started another thread? Some people I think were against latinas being woc instead. I mean, WTH? If they did delete Latina women it would just leave more space for African Americans and Asians. Being Asian myself, that would be goos for Asian visibility. Although, I am Australian I understand race dynamics in America. We looked at police abuse of their powers against African Americans as a case study. I just feel sad I have to read about a current real life example of this.
its all good
i get your point. that is why i am so damn mad right now because the other day i watched the documentary "Dangerous Living". and it brought me to tears when they talked about a woman who was raped by the police in Central America because they saw her at a meeting preparing for there pride festival and how they got her son involved and told him what they were going to do to her. and all these post of non-sympathetic people are simply disgusting and not right. i mean where in the hell are your morals as a human being. if i see a person being attacked or being hurt in some kind of way i am the type of person to say enough is enough. because sadly enough now and days people only give a damn about themselves and that is just not right.
WOC thread okay after a while i just stop giving a damn about that because white people were saying Penelope Cruz was not a WOC, i was like word, really. only like two latinas i believe actually gave a honest opinion and made a bit of damn sense. i just dont get it anymore it is simply ridiculous because this for me goes back when a white girl told my sister that Rihanna was not black and my sister was like enlighten me. this chick was like she is from the islands and my sister is like okay she is black. and the white chick says no she is from Barbados and my sister just walked away like you dumbass. it is like where do you think black people came from you knows. another time at lunch of my senior year in high school i had just moved to Ohio I hated it nothing but white people. there was a very large population of muslim students and everyone used to attack them even black people and i was like word, really how ridiculous. all of them were from Africa and these white guys told them to go back where they came from and decided to take off their shirts and wore them as turbans. and i was like wtf oh no this is not happening. i told my friends who were not paying attention and one of them went over there and said something to one of the boys. they were like we are just joking(B.S.) and when she walked away one of the guys was like why do you care you are not from Africa. i was like okay you need a damn history lesson immediately. Obama asks for change but I have yet to see very little change and it is so sad and disappointing.
90 people get the swine flu, everyone wears masks; Millions of people get AIDs, no one wears rubbers.
Sorry
but I just don't trust the police. After witnessing numerous incidents of the police HARASSING my father, solely because he's a black man, I have my reasons on not trusting the police. The police don't see my father as a hard working man whom served his country for twenty something years, all they see is another black man. So I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but until the police can give me reason to trust them, I don't.
In 50 years people will ask "Lindsey who" but Natalie Wood will be indelible.
I could not have said it better myself
you do not have to apologize for your statement b/c it is true whether or not people want to believe it or not. like when Will Smith had the episode on Fresh Prince of Bel Air and the cops pulled him over b/c he was black and a black man wrote in that he would never watch the show again b/c such things like that do not happen. and when Sean Bell got shot 99 times by police officers and had not a single weapon on him and how many cops were there and they could not get him on the ground but yet they murder an innocent man before his wedding. and when Rodney King got beat down on camera and the police officers get a slap on the risk. and when Gerald Levert's brother Sean Levert got the crap beat out of him and died in there custody and said it was not there fault. please there is no apologies necessary you keep your head up and never apologize for ones ignorance.
90 people get the swine flu, everyone wears masks; Millions of people get AIDs, no one wears rubbers.
Thanks
I'm tired of people making excuses for the police. Granted I'm pretty sure that there are good cops out there, but I just don't trust the police. They get their kicks out of harassing minorites, especially black men. My father is a GOOD upstanding American citizen but yet he can't catch a break in his country, the same country he SERVED. All cops see is a black man, whenever he's driving a beat up car or an fancy SUV(like my dad drives). I just don't understand how some cops and their supporters are so damn clueless, while I never got pulled over, I've seen/heard it one too many times, innocent victims being pulled over, shot, harassed, and sadly killed.
In 50 years people will ask "Lindsey who" but Natalie Wood will be indelible.
You are welcome
I completely agree and undertstand where you are coming from and it is indeed sad. But we got to keep our heads up and take a stand for injustice and not allow them to continue to get away w/ this(even though they got away w/ it in the cases that I just mentioned). We just have to let them know to open up there eyes and take a look at reality and see things from our eyes. Glad to know that Russel Simmons is taking action on this and continues to speak up against injustices. Too bad only a few hear his words and of that few very little care. It is indeed sad.
90 people get the swine flu, everyone wears masks; Millions of people get AIDs, no one wears rubbers.
I agree. Don't apologize at
I agree. Don't apologize at all. She should apologize for being unsympathetic to this situation. I don't live in US but i know about your racist past (a past that many countries share btw so not singling you out) but still she should be aware of that. Everyone (not just Americans) know the police in the US (like police in Australia) discriminates against racial minorities. We recently studied a number of examples in class where the US police discriminates against African Americans and totally ignores that same crimes being carried out by a non-African American. In Australia, we have that case with Aboriginals. Aboriginals will be drinking out in public in some rural towns (because they aren't welcome inside bars) and the police will ask them to move and if they don't they will arrest them for agression and public disturbance. These so called "protectors of law and order" are nothing more than the protectors of racial prejudice and stereotyping. They don't realize that they already have a strained relationship with ethnic minorities and they should improve that.
My friend got her car searched late at night for no reason. Just because maybe she was playing Arabic music. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your dad. Is there any course of action you can take? Maybe report it to some police anti-corruption organization. We can't let them get away with it.
You would think a lesbian woman would understand discrimination but I guess its easy to side with the oppressive police and not see our side of the story. It's an example of our side of the story being ignored again, this time by a lesbian police officer. That just makes me speechless. That distinguishes us more than anything and makes it obvious why WOC term is important and why we should embrace it.
I remember
crying my eyes out one incident when I was a kid when my father got pulled over just because he was a black man in a nice car. The idiot officer kept harassing him in FRONT of his wife and kids, both kids under the age of freaking ten. Afterwards, I've asked my dad if there was a way to take action, but he refused simply because he's used to being treated like s**t because he's a black man in America(but yet, so many people are in "awe" with black men from Bill Cosby to Barack Obama). The reason I was crying was this happened during the Rodney King incident and was fearful that the cops would hurt my father. Plus, one of my friends, whom is a gay Hispanic, has gotten harassed a few months aog by the cops because he was non-white driving a BMW. They questioned him, trying to get him to confess that the car wasn't his, even after proof, they didn't believe that a non-white can own such a car and tried to assume that he was an illegal. So forgive me if I say screw the police. Incidents like these have happened one too many times for African-Americans and Hispanics for me to be all "I heart cops". Please.
In 50 years people will ask "Lindsey who" but Natalie Wood will be indelible.
I'm sorry to hear that and
I'm sorry to hear that and I wish there is something we can do. I really hope Barack Obama can do something to change all this. I don't know how though if it's as widespread as it sounds. I have heard of plenty of stories of Middle eastern people and Indians (mistaken for middle easterners) being falsely searched and detained because they are automatic suspects. I have also heard about African Americans and Latino being targeted. There is so much hate and prejudice in the world it is scary.
Where is your Support???
Why is it when victims, (i.e. police brutality, rape, etc.) that come forth, are the ones who end up being persecuted?
Going through everything that you said, I haven't seen any word or sentence where you express some kind of sympathy for the victims. The only sorry that is stated is for the defense for the police. The very police who took an oath to serve and protect the very people who pay their pay checks, in which they attacked. Stereotypical of what everyone thinks of cops? Are you kidding me, we (blacks, hispanics) are stereotyped by the police. It never fails nor ceases to amaze me how much police racially profile us.
You clearly state when you get arrested , if you are injured in anyway you have to be taken to the hospital before being processed, even when it is the police who caused the damage in the first place. If the injuries are taken seriously and not acceptable by the police department, why are they the ones using the excessive force?
I'm not sorry, whether she is lesbian, black, white, etc., etc., "I am disappointed to see your guys continuing to abuse their power. Yes, their are some good, but I haven't heard one, not even you show any kind of sympathy when the police are wrong. The LGTB community is better than that." Yes, you are absolutely right, so where is your support for her?

This is extremely sad...
As a woman of minority and as a lesbian, this makes me scared. This is extremely sad. I hear cops doing stuff like this every day. I have about every race you can think of in me, but me and my brothers look mostly Spanish, mainly my older brother. My brother is a very intelligent smart young man who has a good paying job, so he drives a good car and has good things. Cops are always pulling him over and his black friends, (which are my friends to) to check and see if they stole anything, is my brother illegal or is his friend a drug-dealer. It's sad. Now to hear this! It's sad... really that is all I can say. These poor women, I hope they get their justice!!! My prays and heart goes out to them. There are few cops I know that our like you sage. It is very hard to respect cops when you hear stories like this... all the time. Now I am not saying that there are no good cops because there are, but when people get power, they tend to abuse it. I don't wish to see these men get killed but most definitely get their license as a cop taken away or some time in jail or something!
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, but learning to dance in the rain."damn...
I hope the two ladies are ok and that they already taken the necessary steps. I also hope someone caught it on camera and that those lame excuses for human beings will get what they deserve.
Is there a country where the police departments actually function properly? Where I come from it's exactly the opposite of this. I also wonder how these things can happen. Do a few of them decide by themselves they will go mess about with some innocent people or does someone order them? It wouldn't surprise me if someone higher up knows more and is responsible or just turns a blind eye.
It has been mentioned before, but I am not surprised people don't trust the police anymore.
Get a taste of religion. Lick a witch!
Please Help
Fowarded the letter
this is absolutely disgusting
i am speechless that this could happen and things need to change there is no question in that. i will forward this to everyone i know until they get the picture that enough is enough.
Good cop bad cop who knows now and days in the words of Mos Def we need to start policing the police.
90 people get the swine flu, everyone wears masks; Millions of people get AIDs, no one wears rubbers.
You're welcome
However unfortunate this situation is, I think the overall tone of this letter, isn't going to make anyone who witness this "beating" homophobic, or racist, to change their mind about coming forward as a witness to injustice. As a queer and officer myself, I can tell you right now, there is nothing in the training that states we are to be brutal and use excessive force on ethnic minorities, queers, or otherwise for NO reason. Not at all trying to excuse these NY cops of wrong doing if in fact, the beating was unjustified, but the way this letter is written and the tone it provides is going to prove unsuccesful in bringing the type of justice you are seeking. And because, as the saying goes, "there's two sides to every story". The fact that it states up there, "there were a lot of women around" and we've yet to see this "beating" on the news or at least youtube, kinda makes me wonder. Either they were bunch of elderly folks(heh look at me trying to be PC) and so they're vision is a bit blurred, or they were a bunch of homeless people thus there was no one recording such "unjustifiable use of force". Sure, I have to be extremely naive and stupid to think that there are no racist, homophobic cops out their with a badge, but I believe that each department try their best to weed out these "bad apples". Because it only takes a few to spoil or rott everyone, or the apples in barrel up. And, it's the same thing anywhere else. Doesn't matter the profession you're in, there are always going to be a select few that fucks up the image for everyone else, and makes it so that the P.R department actually have something useful to do with their time. lol I'm sorry if it seems like I'm making fun of this situation, but I guess this letter just has an overall tone of BS to me. Sorry.
I don't get why you're
I don't get why you're making light of this situation. Usually you are quick to point out American's many and varied faults, yet when it comes to cops being discriminatory in the US (which everyone knows) you argue for the police. I think minorities in the police should try to
Are you seriously saying someone made this up when you say it is BS? Does this sound like a fun game to you? What about all the BS lies and coverups of the police when they've f'd up? What about all the stories people have put here about police racism? Do you think they're made up as well. When people are in a state of shock and you are surrounded by a bunch of male heterosexual police..its hard to get a video camera and start recording when the police would probably take it from you or bash it up. Like you have power against a bunch of armed police.
I wonder why they were no female police there? Hmm...maybe the police were having a boy's night out trying to harrass some gay women.
I see police aggressively take down activists many days and no one has time to record their dastardly actions. Sure, all professions have f***ups some just have more than others. For example there are more fuckups in the police department and amongst politicians than say doctors or engineers.
Like the police officer above you have showed little sympathy for the victims. I'm starting to think its a trend.
I agree
but it's not a trend. The police have shown little to no sympathy for years. It's sickening. Like the incident in Philly where the cop was openly mocking the victim's mother after being told that her son was killed. He did it at a bar and was videotaped and put out on youtube. He actually said something of the lines of "Oh well, he was a gangster, therefore his life didn't matter"
As for the cop above mocking incidents like these. Sorry, there were no Youtube back in the 1990's. So no, I'm NOT making up a story about my father being harassed by the cops... and you and the other cop on here wonder why there are people out there that don't respect the police.
In 50 years people will ask "Lindsey who" but Natalie Wood will be indelible.
It's not a trend. More like
It's not a trend. More like a pattern. And that the lesbian police here, especially minority lesbian police, are silent is quote disappointing. I feel helpless because there's not much that i can do living so far away. I just hope the perpetrators are put to justice.
And i've also heard there's been a gay bashing in Seattle against someone who is of a minority race. When will this hate and violence end?
Samantha Ronson speaks out against hate crimesI don't get the "I heart police" comments but its interesting that these have come from police officers themselves, which really says it all. I dont understand why the poster above, as a minority lesbian herself, is so unsymapthetic to this incident she would call it BS. Would someone who is a CEO of a lesbian site make it up and cause herself to be a subject of defamation and bad publicity? Why would anyone make up a story of brutal beating and call for evidence when it is fake? Uh why would anyone do that? I am sure she has got the physical scars to prove it but the police could easily say she was causing some public disturbance, we asked her to move, she didn't, she got aggressive and we had to resort to violence to resist her actions. Of course it is always minorities who are disproportionately the target of police"move on" powers. Do they feel any sympathy for those who are wrongly killed by police?
Geez..logical thinking is something which should be common but isn't always.
Maybe there were a lot of people because it was a big party and the police couldn't handle seeing so many gays.
After reading the comments of these 2 police officers it is no wonder that police are not to be trusted that much. And you two aren't helping that either.
Sure
I read her comment, and I wasn't sure myself why, what date, the "beating" happened matter all that much. And once again, I apologize for trying to make the situation sound funny when it really isn't wasn't, IF it did in fact happen. This is because, nowhere on this letter does it state, how the situation escalated to this "brutal beating". Because, if I want to scream injustice or abuse of authority, it's going to help my case out a lot if I explain everything that happened from before the "beating" happened to after. Meaning, I would be as pissed off as you are right now at this situation, if the letter had something like this, "My partner and I, were walking quietly down the alley, mining our own buisness, when these four MALE COPS, appeared out of nowhere and attacked us" or something like that. That? Yes, I would 100% agree and sympathise with the author of the letter and try to do everything I can to help her. But once again, there just isn't enough in the letter to make me think otherwise. And also, like I said, the idea that "I know for a fact there were at least 100-200 woman outside at the time" and yet no one had the instinct to record what was going on. Especially, if it was unjustified. I can go into a lot more of how this story sounds completely BS, but life's calling and I have to leave it at that.
So someone has to be
So someone has to be walking down a quiet alley and beaten to be taken seriously. I'm sure the police do that in other countries but if they wanted to queer bash that would hardly be subtle. SO it's like rape it can only happen in a dark alley by strangers. It can't happen on a date, or with someone you know, or in a common place because i'm sure you know that's how it commonly happens.
She doesn't have to give all details. The woman has just been bashed and like the seattle victim probably has the scars to prove it. Maybe she doesn't want to put that much attention on herself. It's always the victim who gets scrutiny and criticism. Whether it be abuse, rape or assault. "She stayed with him too long, she knew what he was like...she could have left"Or " she shouldn't have said yes first but then when he decided to bring more of his friends to join in then say no."Maybe the police knew there was a gay party happening in a club, maybe they knew some of the people there...and decided to wait when they were all gathered together and saying good bye. Then they decided to randomly hang around outside, asked the girls to move, they objected because they were targeted for their race or sexuality, then the police dealt with them aggressively. Just because there are more women than police doesn't lighten the situation. What about if it was a protest or a rally and the police were cracking down on participants? They still have power because they have authority and actual weapons to use. Not to mention they were an ALL MALE police force. I wonder why?
There are other methods to use than violence and you know that. The police are not above the law and like those in the criminal justice system they should face the hard iron fist of the law as well. Surely, you acknowledge this as a problem in America (among other countries). You ususally say a lot of anti-American stuff or make light of people suffering from the economic crisis, yet you cannot stand criticism of your own profession. That makes sense. Not.
There is no incentive for her to lie as I pointed out in my questions above...because she would get caught. Duh! Does it have to be brutal, completely brutal to be noticed. A police officer should not touch or trespass upon the body of someone unless they have solid proof of a need to do so. They should be able to scream injustice and brutality any time, someone in a position of authority and "trust", over steps the line. If you want more details I am sure she would provide it to you but in a letter talking about awareness the main elements are essential. After all, this isn't a police report. Let's hope you're consistently as unsympathetic if this, god forbid, ever happened to anyone you knew. But I doubt it.
Wow
what caught my eye is the fact that you stated that someone on here has been making fun of those suffering from the economic crisis. Wow poster, you're all heart considering that you may end up losing your job just like a lot of people. Have you ever heard of watch what you say? Love how you make light of the economic crisis but yet, make a million and one excuses for your profession.
I guess in today's age, you have to prove police brutality by posing it on youtube. Am I the only one who finds this claim silly and out there? Since when did youtube become the go to for facts and news?
In 50 years people will ask "Lindsey who" but Natalie Wood will be indelible.
i have to say wow too
i completely agree w/ you on this issue. it is sad and i don't get why people are putting light to the situation. i know damn well if this were to happen to them or anyone they knew or loved they would seriously care. but my thing is i am a very sympathetic person for human suffering and i grew up thinking that others were supposed to give a damn when others suffered as well. but obviously by these post proves that is not true.

hmm..
ok let's see..uhhmm..I can see and understand where your frustration is coming from and yes, I absolutely agree that authority figures, such as cops should not be above the law. But, like I said before, the tone in which this letter is written doesn't really make me want to run there and "help". Let's see, I already said, "it's sounds like total and complete BS" and uhmm..like sage has written below, "hysteria". I'm glad that you took time out of your life to read the somewhat coherent statements and remarks I post on this site, but I don't see how they have anything to do with this situation. Anyone, who's capable of independent thinking could clearly see how this letter, is just meant to inflame and extort this us vs them, "ALL COPS ARE EVIL" "don't go outside" "THE SKY IS FALLING" attitude, that is clearly displayed by the majority of comments here. And I don't like this idea, that I'm unsympathetic or somehow callous in not jumping on this "gays vs cops" wagon everyone(on this thread) seems to be riding on. Like I said before, if the letter only did include just how the whole thing started from say, why there were cops there in the first place, or just how it escalated to the point of having four male cops "beat" them and call them anti-gay names, it would've helped out a lot in making the story plausible. But to go from, "they beat us in front of 100-200 women" and yet there's only a "rumor" of video footage, to throwing in the civil rights struggle, to talking about being discriminated against at bars and "ALL COPS ARE QUEER HATERS" kinda doesn't really make any sort of sense at all to me. It just seems like massive hysteria, that's all. Plus, like sage I don't like the bit of generalization that we are all evil and corrupt. I feel like this is draggin on longer than it needs to be, so once again IF this situation did really happen, I have no problem with joining you guys and see to it that those NY cops( not the entire Police force, cause that would include me and sage, who has done nothing of the sort) are punished to fullest extent of the law. Ok, good day:)
You don't get it(or even want to get it)
I for one, didn't have this whole "sky is falling" mentality nor has "everyone" had this gays vs. cops thing either. I merely told my very own story about racist, ignorant cops, that was it. Like I SAID, judging by the history of cops harassing, hurting, and killing minorites(esp. black men like my very own fucking FATHER, whom hasn't done SHIT to anyone) And then to add insult to injury, you basically belittle the posters on here by typing "Anyone who's capable of independent thinking..." blah blah blah, seriously, you don't understand how some can see you as being unsympathetic? Judging by that statement and other posts you have made on this thread, plus insulting others on this thread, you can't see how people like myself think that you are being callous? So just because Sage, another cop agreed with you, she's the only one on here besides you(rolls eyes) that is intelligent? Get a freaking clue. Seriously, attitudes like yours are also part of the reason why I don't trust cops. Period. Now go ahead and insult me like you just did with everyone else.
In 50 years people will ask "Lindsey who" but Natalie Wood will be indelible.
that is another reason why
I guess my main problem is
wtf? and you are a cop?
then why don't you look it up and find the truth to this instead of being on there side and bashing us for getting upset. that is the common sense thing i would have done but no you write these unecessary posts to put light to the situation which does help me or not. whether there is truth to this or not, sad thing is i think that if this is honestly true and action will be held you would seriously stand on there side. even though you are a cop you are supposed to stand on the side of justice and end wrong doings and injustices in this world and make me feel safe. either way i do not feel safe knowing that we have people who could careless about the ones they protect. they are still people at the end of the day. you are still a person behind the badge, where are your morals as a human being?
and people do get attacked at Target and Wal-Mart and other huge stores as well by street punks who have nothing else better to do or trying to make ends meet while their families spend there tax money to put a roof over your head and you go to sleep at night not giving a damn about others around you that are less fortunate.

Fluffy? Where are you Fluffy?
I fail to see how she was bashing anyone here...but okay, sure. I guess she shouldn't question the legitimacy of a posted story. Next time she should just look it up with her magical 'all crimes committed in the U.S.' scanner.
Please also find me my missing pink unicorn. I miss riding him so much. :(

Whoops!
What?
get real personal attacks versuses being insentive towards human beings. please get a life and stop w/ the unecessary immature jokes on a serious issue. there are cops who do look into stuff about things like that she just does not want to and wants to defend them. it happens and it is sad and needs to change.
Education is a must : )

I Actually Called The Victim And Her Story Is True
Hah,
To any those who didn't believe her story. It's true. I called the number myself. JG answered. My sympathy goes out to her and other victims. Press on JG. Those cops will get theirs soon.
Ladies, I agree with sage, make sure you don't lump all cops into a bag. It was only those cops who stepped outside their blue lines.
JG,
Get the right attorneys and those who witness please don't let another undocumented hate crime get slip.
Be blessed!
So it's true?
Wow. Just.....wow. So you don't need the power of Youtube to prove a story is true after all....
I know people shouldn't lump all cops into a bag...but after the crap I've seen, the way they treat innocent black men, including my father, it's hard to trust them.
But to the victim, get on this case right away and i'm praying for you.

She sound cute on the phone, too. LOL. Yes,I'm crazy. No I won't be calling her like that. I ain't that crazy.
LOL
While I'm sad about the case, I'm glad it was proven true. Now some of the posters on this thread would stop finding this problem funny.
BTW: she sounded cute? Now i'm wondering what she looks like. lol.
