hi gals!help me out here...do you think homosexual movies is meant to homosexualized people? i read an article about this,n it makes me curious.so tell me what u think.thx a bunch=)
WHERE IS THIS ARTICLE! I can't believe that crap....sorry, it's just that, whenever the mainstream media discuss "gay and lesbian filmaking" it's usually to cause a few scandals or slurs...the thing about this is that it STINKS of homophobia....I'm sorry to rant and I'll shut up, but really.....think about it, what movie is gonna TURN somebody gay...that's like, one of the fundamental stupid homophobe comments someone could make.....
gargh...
Unless of course....the film included actresses like....say...Eliza Dushku....lol
the writer is an ex gay.now he's married now.he said that somebody wants to homosexualized america (he is american).but if u think it over, many people realize that their gay maybe bcoz of the movie they watched. ???
I also think that's crap, the media and conservatives like to think that average people are dumb sheep who just copy whatever they see on TV or movies when really audiences are quite smart and interpret what they see/hear on TV and movies in all sorts of ways. So this is absolute crap that people who watch movies/TV shows with gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender/queer (GLBTQ) themes will "turn" GLBTQ purely because the movie "told" them to. It's more likely that people who are already questioning their sexuality and have never been able to relate to all the heterosexual relationships/characters they've grown up seeing all over the media see a movie with GLBTQ themes and feel that they can relate to the characters and/or the character's situation/storyline because it better reflects how they feel or think. That's why a lot of people talk about which movie helped them realise they were either GLBTQ, they weren't "turned" gay from some secret message beaming from the movie/TV show, but rather were able to see elements of their own situation by relating to characters/storylines.
And anyway, if their "theory" that the type of movies or TV shows you watch determine your sexuality, then there should be virtually no GLBTQ people as the majority of movies/TV shows that exist are based on heterosexual relationships/characters. It would also then imply that GLBTQ people would "turn" heterosexual if they watched a heterosexual movie. The whole idea is ridiculous.
I realised I didn't really answer your question of "do you think homosexual movies is meant to homosexualized people?"
My answer is no, movies with GLBTQ themes are just telling the stories of people, the same as any movie does. The movie 'Imagine Me and You' wasn't made to "tell" people "hey all you straight girls out there who are about to get married, you should turn gay and leave your fiancee for a woman" in the same way that the movie 'Titanic' wasn't made to "tell" people "all you rich girls out there should leave your rich fiancee for a poor man instead". These movies are portraying the stories of people who followed their heart and chose the person they fell in love with rather than the person everyone else expected them to be with, they weren't made to "tell" people "you should be gay like this" or "you should be straight like this", they are just stories for people to watch and think about, and possibly find some joy from.
o yeah,i got the point.i read a book, it says that u have to be aware first that gay exist, then u can realize whether u're gay or not. if the movies are the tools to make people aware, then does it means that movies really can influence people?at least as a trigger.thx =D
Hahahaha! I saw this topic and I started laughing out loud..
I haven't read this article so I dont know if its upsetting or not.. But if you think about the Question asked... then the answer is YES. However.... they make people "bisexual" , not all the way gay. Or.. they make ppl gay untill they decide 20 years later that now they want kids and go straight.
Movies have a huge influence on the masses. They are doing a lot to spread awareness , to spread Tolerance.. but also they are making homosexuality a very Grey Area.. Nowadays its "cool" to be gay.... More and more girls are experimenting than ever before , and quite openly... just cos of the movies etc
Sexuality is Fluid. Thats a truth... and its kinda becoming clear with this trend isnt it?
this is interesting..so movies do influence ppl. i'd like to call it theatre effect. if u want to read the article, just google it. the keyword homosexual in media, the writer is stephen bennet.or u can give me ur email n i'll send it to you. he's not just talking bout movies, but media in general. he said the children in US is being indoctrinated into homosexuality.the goal is to wipe out homophobia.thx 4 the comments =D
i thnk LGBT movies just help to let ppl be more open to the idea of being gay, and that yes, there are people out there who are in love with others of the same sex. It doesn't necessarily make you gay, but it might open up your mind to the possiblity. Its the same concept as watching violence on tv, we're being bombarded by it every day and night, but yet not all of us have that urge to pick up a gun and shoot people. Being gay, for some people, it may be a choice? (perhaps of bad personal relationship experiences) and the movies show them it is acceptable for same-sex relations...and for alot of others, like myself, we were gay from the very start, it is part of who are, and no amount of LGBT movies made us so, and no amount of hetero relationships in the media is going to make us straight.
that's it,when u watch a movie that potray yourself, u know that there are other people like you, it makes you aware that there is such thing as gay, you're beginning to understand and accept youself knowing that you're not alone. so u can say that movies give u a way to be what u are. so movie is not really make u gay,but just the gate to open ur mind.right?
LOL I suppose it's a possibility. I mean, I just watched Emperor's New Groove (I'm never going to grow up), and for the next three hours I could've sworn I was a talking llama.
huahahah that's funny!whatever movie that i watch,i often feel like i wanna be like the character.when i watch mr and mrs smith i wanna be an assasin, when i watch x men,i wanna be a mutant, n so on. well what more i can say, movies do influence us.
There is a group called American Family Association, who spouts this agenda. They offer an "informational" video, in which they say that Hollywood has been portraying a "gay agenda". Basically they contend that any positive portrayal of gays is done purposefully to recruit.
Here is American Family's youtube profile: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=americanfamily There you will find a short piece entitled "It's Not Gay" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoABIt2q0iY which is a preview for the video they are attempting to sell.
According to their youtube profile:
"It's Not Gay presents a story that few have heard, allowing former homosexuals the opportunity to tell their own story in their own words. Along with medical and mental health experts, these individuals express a clear warning that the sanitized version of homosexuality being presented to students is not the whole truth."
I actually stumbled across this profile while looking for clips from "dirt". I had hoped to find one of Garbo and Willa's kiss. You see, AFA goes out looking for these clips to use them as "evidence" that Hollywood is pro-gay. So they have a few clips on their site of gay kisses. They don't seem to be keeping up with it though, because all they have are two guy on guy kisses, one from dirt and one from Cold Case.
It is a shame. I had hoped there would be more girl on girl kisses there. I think their site would be much more popular if they would include those. I don't think they would sell more videos (at 25.00 each, even the most ardent homophobe might balk at the cost), but then, they probably are too slow to realize that people would much rather see the kisses than the hatred.
WHAT!
