Film- Outrage

I'm curious about how people on afterellen feel about the upcoming release of the movie outrage. The movie is described as a documentary that "outs" politicians that are secretly homosexual and vote primarily anti-gay. The movie is supposed to help the entire community by holding these individuals responsible for choosing to work against their "own" while pursuing their careers. It also addresses the media ignoring these facts.

This is the synopsis listed on Moviefone: Kirby Dick, the Academy Award-nominated director of This Film is Not Yet Rated, exposes the hypocrisy of closeted politicians who actively campaign against the very community they secretly belong to. Some of the most influential policymakers in the United States are gay, but you wouldn't know it to look at their voting records. Because despite being members of the LGBT community, many closeted politicians actually vote against the proposals designed to give that community equal rights. In speaking with such members of the gay community as US Representatives Tammy Baldwin and Barney Frank, as well as radio personality Michelangelo Signorile, activist Larry Kramer, and former NJ Governor Jim McGreevey, Dick is able to explore the complexities of leading a double lifestyle, as well as highlight the double standards of a media that has become obsessed with covering the sex lives of gay public figures.

I think this movie is going to be problematic for these politicians, the LGBT community, and the media is going to make us look like the bad guys.

 What do you ladies think?

I...

...really want to see this. I keep hearing [surprisingly] good things about it. From what I gather, a large chunk of the general public approves of outing politicians who reek of this type of hypocrisy, so it won't necessarily be an "US vs. THEM" type scenario, thank god.

I'll have to trekk back into this topic after I do. Also curious to hear the reception of those who've screened this film already.

Oh.

I have never heard of this documentary. And I plan to not watch it either especially after reading about it now. I can see the point of wanting to get back at individuals who are being hypocrites but I find it disrespectful to tell others of someone's attraction esp. when they are not ready. If anyone wants to get these politicians and whoever else for things they have done than explain about those issues. My question is what is truly the point of telling about other's attractions? What will develop from doing that? Anything positive or what?

Thanks for telling about the documentary.

wow the whole idea of this

wow the whole idea of this docomentary is seriously unnerving. we get enough crap as it is from others outing ourselves on the social scale but to out politicians on the larger international scale is really going too far. i want to see what ripples from this doco but i don't intend on watching it. i can see what they're trying to do but this is like public blackmail. i see this kind of politics to be offensive and disbanding of the glbt community - how did they find out they were gay? cos someone spilled the beans. that's not much else but gossip and word of mouth the Director is going off.

ok i'll breathe now. like Georgia, i'd love to hear feedback from those who have watched it!
