i saw marlee matlin and she did great job. at least i understand what she was saying. i hope next week or so she would kiss bette porter...i can't wait for that one. poor shane she has to model cuz of his half brother broke his arm.
My god this episode was so freakin hilarious the name calling on the "field"...oops i mean court or jenny being just crazy or should i say just being jenny.
l Who else thought Bette looked good out there on the court?
I loved the picture Shay drew of Shane and himself that was totally sweet.
Marlee Matlin was amazing and so was Kristanna Loken cant wait to see more of both of these lovely ladies......however im not sure how i feel about Phyllis yet.
Helena is so lovely and funny this season.
Anyway, if anyone would lije to discuss the l word i would love to hear from you please email me at smile2angels1996@yahoo.com
I enjoyed this episode too. I laughed so hard when Alice started screaming while dribbling to the basket - Then missing badly. This episode was all Alice.
Oh, did I shutter when Bette tapped Jodi on the back and scared her. Come on Bette, a 12 year old would have known not to do that. The confrontation between Bette and Jodi was great too. I don't really follow Jodi's logic in not complying with Bette's request to not present that one piece though.
Jenny continues to lose favor with me - And she's been my favorite character since episode one. Her character has become too unbelievable and she's also just annoying a lot of the time.
Oh, and I wish she'd stop wearing those stupid HUGE sunglasses too. Yuck.
Wow. I couldn't disagree wtih you more on almost all of your points.
1) Jenny is getting better and better each and every episode. Her recent antics (yelling Staaacey a la "Street Car Named Desire" and having that pooch on her lap) are hilarious and just about the only good thing about the show lately.
2) I don't blame Bette in the slightest for tapping old Jodi on the shoulder - just because she's deaf she can't get tapped? Do you think deaf people are lepers? Cause I don't.
3) Um, just so you know, Jodi left that "piece" up to give that donor and Bette a big "F-YOU" basically stating that art shouldn't be censored for anyone, even if it means you don't get funding.
The only point I agree with you on is that Alice was hilarious when she screamed like a mad man and then charged the basket.
I think you should start reading my blog, I think it will help you. Check it out.
Oh, did I shutter when Bette tapped Jodi on the back and scared her. Come on Bette, a 12 year old would have known not to do that.
to be honest, it doesn't matter if Jodi is deaf or not, i wouldn't want to go tapping ANYONE who was using a drill. someone who wasn't deaf wouldn't have known Bette was there, the drilling would have been drowning out all other noise.
and you meant shudder, right?? if not, i don't get what you mean by shutter...
I really loved the episode, and Shane is SMOKING. Can I get some of that, and Jenny was so hysterical I just love her. I wish people would stop hating on her -- grow up.
I really loved the episode, and Shane is SMOKING. Can I get some of that, and Jenny was so hysterical I just love her. I wish people would stop hating on her -- grow up.
Its Jenny who needs to grow up. Treating Tina like shit for showing up at the basketball game because it was a 'lesbian only' game. Treating your friends like crap - That's one thing Jenny is good at.
Where is Roche Troche? and when did Elithabeth Ziff become a lead writter? Here are my thoughs this season so far. Alice, Bette and Shane have become the new leading ladies of the Lword, they are a great tight nucleus. The stories to follow Max completes his transition and goes back to the midwest as a transgender man, searching for his "normalcy" Jenny on the other hand becomes so opinionated that she gets recruited by Barbara Walters and becomes a new co-host on "The View". Kit needs to go on tour promoting her new record and Papi need to return to"East Park", the cartoon where she can thrive on perpetuating the latina/lesbian folklore of Dona Juana ( Don Juan) . Then as a real treat Carmen to returns in a guest role bringing back authenticity to the latina lesbian's reality, the new Carmen is now dating the latina owner of the new record label( Ricura) ,and returns with her ontourage of latina friends.from her own planet causing a cosmic fusion,. The explotion facilitates the creation of 'The LLword" = lesbian latina and a "spin off " show is born. You heard it here first.
It's official now. I dislike this show. I find it to be as shallow and pretentious (but pretentious in a pop cultural and extremly lightweight kind of way) as all the other relationship dramas out there. The lesbian angle doesn't change that one bit. The writers in this show do what all the people in this particular genre of television seem to do, they go for the easy marks and they make cariacatures out of everything and everyone they get their hands on.
I guess all my hopes for an interesting lesbian relationship or storyline rests with the slim possibility of some Calamity Jane-related developement in the last Deadwood season. Or maybe some nuggets around Kima in The Wire...or what the hell, maybe even that butch little sociopath also in The Wire, Felicity "Snoop" Pearson (one of Marlo's thugs).
I truly don't mean to insult you, Druj, but it took you four seasons to figure out L Word is like a night time soap? It's been kinda shallow and pretentious since the first season. I find it weird how ALL of the main characters are perpetually single. Don't lesbians have LTRs in L.A. or do the writers think it won't make for interesting drama? Even Desperate Housewives has Lynnette and Tom (as a lesbian am I supposed to know that?).
At least Desperate Housewives doesn't put on art-house pretentions and revel (roll, rub, whatever) in the faux relevance of every scrap of contrived dialogue that should have been left out of the script. It's my opinion that the cloistered bunch of writers need to all be sent packing and replaced with fresh perspective.
Still, the actors are fantastic and tackle the dreck quite gamely. I don't plan to stop watching the show because, frankly, where else would I turn for a lesbian TV show? The show does have it's good points. Like people pointed out above, the 4th season seems to have reached its stride in humor and tightening the bond of the main characters.
No, I've said the same thing around the start of every season now. And yeah, I'll still be watching this shit if there's a next season. I'll probably post a similar message here then too.
And I don't mean shallow in that way. That The L Word is the deformed, lesbian little sister of Sex and the City is obvious to anyone. I mean shallow even for a shallow kind of show. The whole setup has an aura of plastic about it. All the way from the extremely lame title song to the last scene.
I honestly don't really think the actors are all that good either. But that could just be because the kind of acting they get to do is so trite (while certainly dramatic enough at times) that it just leaves no impression on me at all.
But yeah, I know, whining about this is not exactly the most enlightened thing in the world. Who cares though? I like to whine about things. :)
Loved this episode it was hilarious! to bad bette lft Nadia i wanted to see some action! oh well maybe next week she will come to her senses...i also loved the fact that this episode confronted the stereotype that all lesbians can play a sport cuz jenny sure as hell didnt know what she was doing :)
Who has Jenny treated like crap? Some people have real problems everything is not all peaches and cream, and people handle things differently. Who are you to judge, your not perfect nobody is. It was everyone who treated Jenny like crap when they found out she had real problems. Can we all remember how everyone treated Max when he showed up?
Did you forget that Jenny confronted Tina, her friend, and told her she was not welcome at the basketball game because it was 'lesbians only'? Then argued with Tina when she stated she still identified as a lesbian.
I can judge because Jenny is doing the EXACT thing we fight against every day. She's attacking Tina because of her (perceived) sexual orientation.
How can you still identify as a lesbian when your sleeping with a man? She should just call herself a bisexual like Alice said. Tina knows she made a mistake we all saw that at the party she threw, now she wants to have te best of both worlds. It's nothing wrong with that but she should be honest with herself.
So because of Tina's recent transition she's instantly removed from the 'lesbians only' club and its okay for her friends to alienate her? So friends should take into consideration one's sexual orientation before choosing to be their friend?
Its not about what you identify as. Its about acceptance.
What an oxymoron. We want to be accepted for who we are, yet its okay for us to discriminate against 'former lesbians'. Incredible.
I'm loving this season so far, I think they're doing a great job of bring humor back after it started getting a little too dark and depressing. I'm enjoying what they've done with the characters. Of course it's over the top, but no matter what they did everyone would complain. So I say to he** with it, at least it's entertaining. I don't care if it's mindless entertainment. It's always the fastest hour of my week.
I love this episode. It was very entertaining. I think Jenny's reaction toward Tina wasn't fair. The whole thing reminds me on a quote from the movie "Serving in Silence" "Being a lesbian is part of someones identity, nothing more nothing less."
OK so Season four is a major upgrade!! I love it and i could tell you why but i rather put my two cents in about Two major threads in this Topic!
One) hell yeah it's a shallow show. And Isn't that why we love it. How come everything Lesbians do has to be all serious. Lesbians are funny *i.e Ellen* and sexy *i.e Leshia Haley* I mean after a long day battling my freinds freakish het-love-triangles. I love to know The Lword is always going to be the same.....Hot sexy woman being put in hilarious situations and making the best out of it. Oh and two minutes of softcore porn...
Two) I don't find jenny half as annoying as everyone would lead me to believe. But the comment from Jenny to Tina was way out of line. The reality is //Tina left Bette for a guy...which in the eyes of some lesbians is the act of utilmate betrayal// But really we shouldn't hate Tina because she's not fighting for our team right now, that really Tina's bisness. But hating is allowed for breaking Bette's heart, which is the real offense, isn't it ladies? I really don't care who you f---, but don't you dare harm a hair on my Jennifer Beals... ***awkward pause*** Anyway Bette is moving on and so should Jenny. That was my point.
I don't find the women in The L Word particulary funny (well, that sleazy lawyer was kind of funny in the beginning, but that's about it). Ellen neither. But that doesn't have anything to do with their sexual orientation. Kind of like everything else in life.
And Tina...she's always been a rather boring character. Even when she was with Bette. But I guess the scriptwriters are making a point with her storyline. The whole oh-so-popular thing about how sexuality is fluid and that we shouldn't define ourselves. In a couple of episodes there will probably be a big verbal showdown where some of the characters will see the light and they'll ride into the sunsetm living happily ever after in their new fluid and undefined world.
I really liked this episode. Alice is the most amazing character on the show , I loooooooove her !!! :) And I think Helena is funny and lovely and so beautiful. My only complain is about Jenny... what she said to Tina was awful. Tina can call herself anything she wants, only her knows who she is. As if going out with a man makes you a bad person. Did Jenny forget that she was straight most of life and also thought that she was bi in S1?? Or that Alice is bi?? If Tina dates a woman again, will she be allowed to have lesbian friends? I'm glad the other girls didn't agree with her. And about Phyllis, I'm not too sure if I like her.
"Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost"
Ahh i cant get enough of that girl i dont know why she is just the best and its wierd she kinda grew on me. I love her though. I must agree though alice and phyllis no thanks eww i mean hay w.e floats her boat but ahhh i dont want to see that again i want to see alice and laura...bring back laura please! Or alice and helena thatd be wierd but still there both hott.
Ohh no i mena i love alice because of her attitude but when it comes to the physical i love me a latin girl like carmen damn now she is ahh no words really and if not her then helena for sure i love dark hair and light eyes.
2) I don't blame Bette in the slightest for tapping old Jodi on the shoulder - just because she's deaf she can't get tapped? Do you think deaf people are lepers? Cause I don't.
No, I don't think deaf people are lepers - How in the world did you get that from my post? There are other ways of getting a deaf person's attention. I don't think you'd care for it if you were deaf and someone did that to you.

3) Um, just so you know, Jodi left that "piece" up to give that donor and Bette a big "F-YOU" basically stating that art shouldn't be censored for anyone, even if it means you don't get funding.
I understand why it was done. That's different then looking at it logically. Which is why I said I do not understand the logic.

i'm deaf. from what i know, some hearing people out there don't know how to deal with deaf people. it's possible that they are afraid to ask questions to deaf people. that's why some people avoid to talk to deaf people. deaf people don't hurt other people just different way of communication. ASL (american sign language) is a foreign language but itself it's a language that deaf people sign everyday. that's why we deaf people need interpreter to explain what i say to hearing person and that hearing person talk to me. that's true that there are different ways to get attention to deaf person. imagine you are in my position, no hearing, no sounds, all quiet and you are working on something like a car, homework, whatever, do you like someone scare shit out of you? no. hearing people can use their hands to get attention or they wait until deaf person finish on whatever they are doing or use pager or use lights or whatever and deaf person will look up and see what's going on. also the episode did great example. we, deaf, like to have hearing people talk to us, not at interpreter, because if hearing person says "ask her, ask him" it would make us feel that we don't exist and that bothers us. i hope the future episodes will show more on how to deal with deaf people. we don't bite people. it's ok to talk to a deaf person. if you ladies and guys, want to ask questions or wondering something then you can email me.
Thought I'd throw a comment in here. I have been deaf from birth but somehow, god knows how, was able to not let on until I was three years old. Apparently I taught myself to read lips and did not show any signs of deafness. I never learnt sign language, never needed to. All I ask of people is that they get my attention by walking in front and looking directly at me before talking. Tapping on shoulders is not necessary, neither is overexagerrating speech (do not get me started on that).
As I haven't seen the episode I can only go by what is said here. Tapping Jodi on the shoulder is not a major no-no, but doing it while she's holding a drill/saw is - health and safety people!!!!
I find that people often don't know how to talk to deaf people but once they get used to it and forget no problems arise. I am only basing this on my experiences as I don't sign, speak normally and generally can hold my own in a conversation.
I can't wait to see how Marlee Matlins character develops over the season but having seen her in The West Wing I would imagine that people will not even notice the disability after a while.
I loved this episode so much. Best one of the four so far. I think if I would have laughed any harder my cheeks would be swollen for days. I cannot wait till 2am my time to watch it again on sho. The basetball game was amazing, not too long at all. Bette looked hot and I am in love with Helena more than ever. I can't wait to see if Helena makes a mess of out her new job. Hope not, but it will be great either way. Jenny is terrible for what she did. I am mad!!!! Alice was the best. Bette made me drool...again, and Shane, well shane's is just great. I cannot wait to see more of our Amazon 'C. Loken" She is hot. Anyways, this season is just back to where I wanted it. I am pleased.
I am trying to expand my horizon with Dean Porter’s art lecture. “What art does is to coax us away from the mechanical and towards the miraculous.” I like that.
I have two questions, please help. The lecture time was up and she had to stop, will you please tell me the name of the artist that she wanted to talk about “ Sara ???”
I also could not get the name for homework, we have to compare Marcel Duchamp’s bicycle wheel with whose mouse?? Thanks
Seems that a few folks on this forum have sum trouble relating to/accepting a 50+ yr.old woman coming out (Phyllis) "ack"...
Obviously, I am in the 50+ age range. I think Phyllis is a breath of fresh air on the L-Word. Not all lesbians are under 35....Gasp...if yer lucky someday you'll be 50+ too, chicas.
If the thought or image of a 50+ yr woman being sexual repulses you, you might checkout your values(or lack thereof) re:physical beauty as defined by the het (sub)culture of which we all were/are a part..."ack"
I'm very glad that the character of Phyllis has been introduced...
In 50+ land she's a hottie!!!(hubba-hubba!)
It's great to see women of different ages/generations "relating" this way (way to go Alice!)
We've all got a lot to share/learn from each other. Don't let ageism limit your choices.
I agree with you, lobro1, I think it's great that we're seeing an older lesbian express her sexuality on TV. That's one of the things I think The L Word does well - provides decent roles to women over 30. And I've been a fan of Cybill's since Moonlighting, so it's great to see her again.
i really didnt mean it the way you're taking it i actually like the character i just dont really see alice and phyllis together thats all, so i'm sorry if you took it the wrong way no hard feelings i'm all for diverse visibility
kinda reminded me of my own when I was in high school. No wonder those snobs never passed me the damn ball. That basketball game was so funny. Oh, and cant wait to see more of smokin Loken. Marlee Matlin is cute too.
Lindsay the vet is HOTTT, ..i have a habit for falling for the "extras" and minor characters on the show like cobie smulders and that chick with Bette in New York..
The vet actually reminds me of Sarah Lancaster. It is her mouth. And I wanted to also add that I am in love with Helena....did I say that already? Oh well. I am glad the rest of the cast was ok with Tina being whomever she is.. Jenny can be really lame. And I can't believe that Tina left Angelica...if it was Bette's day with her she would have skipped the ball game. I know everyone needs some time off but still. I am about to me a mom and it could just be me who feels that way but she doesn't have her every day since Bette has her some of the time so I am just shocked she left her with a sitter.
Saw the episode 2days ago and it is quite funny. It might be in major disagreement with most peoples posts in here but i think Jenny's bitchiness to Tina was justified. Yes we shouldn't discriminate against sexuality cos after all we've fought to be where we are now. BUT, Tina evidently wants to have the best of both worlds and i think she genuinely misses it. Like jenny said, she forfeited things when she decided to run off with a man. I mean, isn't that one of the biggest insults for any lesbian? Not only has she left, but she started fucking a man... after 9 years. How do you make that transition??! She wants what she can't have. AND i think its awesome that we at least have this show- they look good and fuck good. If they didn't people would still complain about how the characters are ugly bla bla... ALL these characters are in life changing transitions and therefore would not always be in a relationship etc. Give them a break! Its a great show with sexy women who show the passion and intensity behind our kind of love and life.
That was actually one of the funniest eps of l word i've ever seen! So many people were bitching about the new series when the first ep aired but they were wrong :D
I was wondering if anyone else noticed that after tha game when the girls were at the planet around the table talking about all the lez sports...Helena paused after naming a tennis player...she was going to say Dana, but realized it before she said it and that was why they paused. If anyone else has posted this and I missed it sorry.
i saw marlee matlin and she

I'm deaf too
Thought I'd throw a comment in here.
I can't wait to see how Marlee Matlins character develops over the season but having seen her in The West Wing I would imagine that people will not even notice the disability after a while.
what an episode
Dean Porter’s home work?
I am trying to expand my horizon with Dean Porter’s art lecture.
“What art does is to coax us away from the mechanical and towards the miraculous.” I like that.
I have two questions, please help.
The lecture time was up and she had to stop, will you please tell me the name of the artist that she wanted to talk about “ Sara ???”
I also could not get the name for homework, we have to compare Marcel Duchamp’s bicycle wheel with whose mouse?? Thanks
re:Phyllis/Cybil
ROCK ON PHYLLIS....
Older women on "The L Word"
sorry
Alice's basketball skills...
Jenny..
Did she go adopt an 11 year old dog and have her put down just so she could get dirt on whatsherface??
I like how the receptionist at the hospital said that Shay had a supposed compound fracture when everyone was so calm when it happened.
Rose Troche
Now...
I think Jenny is fun...She kinda grew on me...
And Alice and Helena ...That would be awesome..the are perfect for eachother, no??!
And oh yeah, let's all remember: it's just a tv show: no need to argue..
Cath

reminds me of
The vet actually reminds me of Sarah Lancaster.
Jenny on Tina
