The whole Legacy thing

Dear Peeps,

Perhaps the single most exasperating aspect of the finalé - noop, make that the entire final season - of the L-Word is that we jostled amongst ourselves for the opportunity to drunk deeply from the poisoned well; there was a slew of empirical evidence from past seasons that the programme was shockingly deficient in sooo many areas; but alas, that stuff didn't signify unduly, because said poisoned well was undeniably the only viable source of water (at least for us anglophones...)

But now that  L-Word is gone, what happens? A simple cóilín marooned here in the UK, I don't know enough about US television to formulate any informed estimate of the fallout from the ker-splat! of "Last Word". In terms of viewing figures, was The L-Word regarded as having been a reliable cash cow, or in decline, or obviously doomed? Is its passing likely to lead to a drop in the number of dykey subscribers to Showtime, one meaningful enough to guarantee an L-Word replacement? Is there rumour of any such replacement not entitled The Farm? Whether or not this Farm becomes the "new L-Word", could a case be made for the proposition that (written by Ilene "Medea" Chaiken or not) any lesbian-targeted programme will not merely inherit the L-Word's timeslot but its audience - simply by default?

I'd appreciate hearing the thoughts of the more media-savvy on the matter.

Love'n'Kisses
