I couldn't be bothered with the avatar but for you MissA I've put one up! I see you're still sticking with the big boofy hair this year!
I can't believe all that ranting, blabbering and interstate insults/wisecracks (ah good times good times, they were some of my best works!!)are gone
You know one and a half months into summer and l'm ready for winter (can't believe l said that)..maybe l should move to NZ (can't believe l said that too!), it's been too hot and dry and there's been too many smoke filled days from the bushfire (which is like hundreds of kms away) that's still going on since summer began
Everyone enjoying all the cricket and tennis??

I have a friend who is coming over from the states so we can finally meet and have a holiday together :) Someone who I met here on this site :) After 5 days in Port Douglas we will be in Sydney for a couple of nights and will probably duck up to Katoomba while we're in Sydney. We are in Sydney for Thursday thru Sunday
I haven't gone out in Sydney since the days of Zorbas, which I think most who post here are too young to remember... where should I take her for a beer and maybe some music or a game of pool. I have read about the Flinders Hotel but that is about all I have in the way of ideas. I would appreciate any advice. Or even where abouts are women more likely to go out. I have heard that Oxford St is mostly guys now. And we are 40 so a flat out dance club might not quite work :)
Btw we are meeting this coming Saturday and since this thread had disappeared I had no idea where the hell to ask... so it is short notice. BTW what did happen to this thread?
Ahoy there, Curlz! I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Sydney night buzz, but here are my picks for the relaxed bar feel you mentioned served with a side of light entertainment. ;)
@Newtown RSL
It's a fairly laid-back place reserved for those that don't mind holding a beer whilst playing pool and juggling good conversation. There's usually some sort of live band playing on Fridays and Saturdays, too.
If that's not your cup of tea, King Street (Newtown) in general is lined with great restaurants (lots of Thai) and loads of Queer bars, predominantly women. ;)
One of my faves! A hot nightspot with live entertainment, typically featuring drag shows and the home of Ms. Priscilla herself as she set off for Alice Springs. ;) Loads of dancing and drinking, but remains fairly chatty before midnight.
Generally a hip and fun atmosphere with both men and women and alcohol aplenty. A great place to meet new people or have a reasonably quiet beer with mates. :P
We had a great time miss a, thanks for the heads up on where to go. We did make it to King St and ate at a really nice restaraunt. Good area to feel comfortable in. Didn't really make it out much more than that tho other than to walk down the road to the local for a bevvy and a game of pool.... she kicked my arse :) She loved the food here too.
Port Douglas was just incredible, we fit in the Barrier reef, the rainforest, white water rafting, and lots more ;) then we headed for Sydney.
I took her across to Manly on the ferry as all tourists should experience that.... Manly beach was a winner , she's in love with the city and the harbour. Did Darling harbour, The Rocks, Circular Quay and saw the Opera House. AND still fit lots more in :D
She couldn't believe the Australian character our laid back attitude of getting things done and our lack of clocks in shops and on the street did totally made her laugh.
It was very hard to see her of at the airport, hated to say goodbye as you can imagine....now we're waiting to catch up again... I can feel a trip to the states coming on.
Hey Curlz, I'm so glad you had a great time. Sydney will always deliver, it's just a matter of knowing where to go and what to do. ;) I suppose that's the case with most places, anyway. Great to hear you two made it to the popular tourist areas and you showcased the Manly ferries, which I agree are definitely a must, as are the harbours and, of course, The Rocks. Glad King street was a hit, too. I think I might've been out with my girlfriend when you were wandering around there. Ha!
I'm so sorry I hadn't replied earlier, I hadn't seen your post as I'm still terribly confused and adjusting to the new layout, etc. As for visiting the States, I've only been to New York state, but had a ball. So, no doubt you'll have a great time, too, wherever it is you venture off to. ;)
The first rule of Bingo Club is - you do not talk about Bingo Club.
Hi again all. Not sure of the new layout - something I will get used to I suppose. BTW, I love your new avatar Miss A! And, indeed - all those geat posts - gone into cyberspace. So sad!
lol@being ahead now. HA! I'm not a Beano fan, either, though it seems Bob is. I did, however read a lot of Phantom comics as a kid. ;) Reckon JB's the comic type? :P

Ditto about the comics-they had that really crumply paper too-although I think I'd only have a quick browse of them once I'd scoffed my way right through the show bag.
hey sammx u know it took me half an hour to read your post, why? because of the funny lil smiley face you got as your avatar... I swear it keeps distracting me, kind of taking my eyes of the reading and sit there watching the puppetter... very cute...
I've been watching some of the matches here and there, it was a very hot day yesterday reaching 42C so most matches were postponed but poor Maria Sharapova had to play in the heat before the roof was closed, thought she was going to faint or throw up a couple of times there.
Molik did well to win last night, Stoser and a few other Aussies are into the next round which is a good start.
This makes me very sad. She just wasn't herself out on court tonight - the crowd really didn't get behind her like they did last year either. And I don't know how Alicia will go against Patty. It will be a good test to see how far she's come. . . and also to see how far she's probably going to have to improve.
I've meant to go to UniQ meetings and outings for ages, but never actually made it there. I will admit, I am a little intimidated of going to a gathering with a bunch of strangers - I'm not the best with big groups. But yeah, I hope to get involved with UniQ this year. Are you a member?
What about PinkGirls? I'm on their mailing list, but all of their outings in the last while have coincided with work hours/prior appointments for me, so I haven't gone yet. I hope to soon! They're doing a trip to Muriwai this Sunday, meeting at Kamo at 1pm I think ... but I'm working until 3, rats. I could really have gone for an afternoon at the beach.

I joined last year, but I've been busy, and most of the meeting times clash with everything else. I feel the same way about meeting with strangers, quite hesitant. But I'm resolved to atleast make an appearance this year, maybe at one of the movie nights.
PinkGirls? I haven't heard of the group... But an afternoon at the Beach in this weather is really nice.
The UniQ meeting times have often clashed for me too. I do read their Yahoo Group bulletin board pretty often, although it's been quiet over the summer.
I'm going to try and make it to a movie night too ... sometime. Let me know if/when you're going to one! (If you want). =)
Pink Girls is a group for lesbian and bi girls, they meet every Sunday at Kamo (K'Rd) and do outings, like the beach one I mentioned, about once a month.
Are either of you guys taking woman studys cause when I went to the Uni open day the lady there tried to get me to take it and went on a rant about how most of the people who take it are gay, it made my friends laugh. We also got free hard hats from the buisness school, we wanted to go in the beems(dunno wether thats how its spelt) corse but our school only sent maori and pacific islanders. I <3 Auckland Uni
hey everyone. well, I'm another aussie, from melbourne, home of the weather from HELL. I'm so glad it's cooler today, even though it's certainly not raining enough.
I haven't been watching the tennis. I've been feeling so sorry for those poor overheated foreign players.
Hey, another Melbournian here :P Have been watching alot of the tennis.. its a pitty there are no aussies left :( I went there last weekend and it was pouring with rain so bad.. i was going to get a ground pass but they cancelled all outdoor games. Weather has been a bit strange.. typical melbourne weather tho i guess :P
Hi all. Hope you have a fantastic Australia Day! I'm not much into attending the Australia day festivities, and got out of Canberra as fast as I could last night, but will celebrate with a lamo later today.
I don't usually do anything for australia day - I often forget it until after the fact. I did go to a bbq this time, but it was just an excuse to catch up with someone. Hope everyone's having a nice long weekend, though. Melbourne is wonderfully cold. Take that, summer.
So, did everyone have an eventful long weekend, or just a quiet one? Gee it was warm on Friday in Sydney. I went down to Parramatta Park, which was a really good day. :-)
Welcome Silverstein and littlegreenx, and welcome back, Rach. ;) I take it Canberra didn't treat you too well. :P Parra Park, aye DTBY? Do they still have the hot air balloons and brekky?
I ended up at an all girl foam party with Nords. *hiccup* :|
Happy belated Australia Day! :D

Thanks heaps Miss A, I think a wander down King St sounds just fine, and the Imperial sounds good too. Love a good drag show.
