Couch-SurfingI discovered this website (http://www.couchsurfing.com/) last night, and immediately decided on an adventure or two. In the process of deciding, with a couple of friends, where we should go, and for how long. Somehow, being university students in the midst of a recession, we are producing budget plans to go to Warsaw, Amsterdam, Prague, Thessaloniki etc. Has anbody here had any experience on sleeping on total strangers couches in strange countries, and would they share their experiences? Couch-surfing!
always been tempted...
if one of my friends would agree to go with me id be more up for it, but alone not so much.....

Snapple, yeah, I think I'd be more scared about letting strangers into my home. Luckily (!), I don't really live in an area of particular interest, so I doubt I'll have to.
Phoenix, absolutely agree that security is the main issue with this. I'd be far too scared to go on my own, so that's why my first foreign couch-surfing experience is going to be with two friends.
We've resolved to get the Eurostar from London to Paris for a few days sometime soon. With this site, we're going to be able to do it in far less than £200. We could probably manage it on £100, actually, if we were being particularly tight with our cash.
We're also planning to get one of those Eurorail tickets in the summer, and go all over the place. To adventure!
couch surfing!
I've heard of that! That sounds awesome. I've never participated, but I have a few random myspace friends scattered around the country who are willing to let me sleep on their sofas/closets/rooftops.
Say, anyone from Seattle wanna be my friend so I can eventually sleep on their sofa? :)
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
Couch surfing is AWESOME.

Hi Ed,
I'm a CSer from Prague, Czech Republic and although I don't have much experience surfing myself - I've surfed just once so far - I'd encourage you to give it a shot!
even though it may feel a bit weird at the beginning it's worth it :)
you should be safe as long as you follow the instructions on CS website
and if you are going with friends there is nothing to worry about at all, I'd say
btw when in Prague let me know I'd be glad to show you around! :)
Cheers,
Jan
Thanks!
I might take you up on that some day. We're planning to get one of those Euro-rail tickets in the summer, and going all over the place. Where did you go?
April, probably, we'll be in Paris for a few days. Fresh meat off the Eurostar, ready for muggings and terror!
I'm glad that a few people here have heard of this!
