I'm So Lost ...YiKeS! been away for a while ... very confused atm --- tricky to try and find ma' way around in here ... I think it's great Sarah Warn has made some new and improved changes to this wonderful site - I'll be honest, AE is part of my life thanks to all the hard work she and others have put into makin' it a warm fuzzy place --- just dunno what happened to many of the threads in Fun 'n Games ... hmmm ... maybe the site isn't totally up and runnin' yet ? dunno, I can't see who's online - ack - gonna go hang out on another site ... Um *scratches head* (you know, we used to have a lil guy who scratched his head for us) :-P I have to say I'm not loving the new site, it feels like a doctors waiting room being all white and stuff, and I have to agree wit Kat, it isn't all that warm and fuzzy now.
I'm sure we'll get used to it but boy is going to take some getting used to..."patient number 479 for their anal exam to room 3 please"...:whistle:

Hi everybody! Sorry for the initial confusion! We're definitely still working out the kinks with the new forum (and the site overall), as you see. I know the forum layout's a little different, but we're trying to streamline it, since it was a bit overly complicated before. I think you'll find, once you've spent a little time on it, that it will actually be faster and easier to find your favorite threads.
Also, there's a new "bookmark this" option available below the first post of a thread - as long as you're logged in, you can add a forum thread, or an article, to your "bookmarks" and then easily access them the next time by clicking on "My Bookmarks".
Plus, you now have the ability post comments on articles, not just in the forum. And you can still post comments on the blog.
Sorry we weren't able to port over all the old photos, but it was a big achievement just to keep everyone's registration data (I really didn't want you to have to re-register).
As for how long you've been a member - I picked "37 years" because that's about how many years it feels like I've been working on this re-launch. :) Seriously, though, we'll clean-up stuff like this as we along, we just wanted to get the forums back up and running as soon as possible.

YAY finally the forum is up again =D I checked almost every day, hah, (I'm such an addict =P) I think it looks pretty, the new lay out. But the forum is more difficult indeed. I'll probably just have to get used to it =)

Shouldn't be a big loss that all of the pictures could not be transferred - People will enjoy posting their pictures over and over and over again. :P Do away with the topic all together, in my opinion, just use a photoalbum like we had with the old, old AfterEllen forums. I can set that up actually.

This is too weird and confusing for me, I'm getting a headache. The old format was much easier to navigate and simpler, so I think if somehow that can be done here it wouldn't have taken me as long to just type all that up cos my brain doesn't seem to be working here prob from the shock and l may need a map!

I know life is about constant change ... but,
sometimes I. hate. change. --- most people can accept it with ease ... I however feel nuthin' short of just falling to the ground and takin' an all out tantrum *shuffles feet* hehehe I saunter around AE right now, and don't feel connected - that cozy cybertown feel has been sucked into the vortex ... *sniff* I'm a regular on a few sites ... but AE was a warm comfy place to come hang, read, post n' play ... ;o)
sorry, not tryin' to be difficult here ... ;^) I think I'm grieving the Ole' site ... ? althou' it's more about the loss of connectivity within the AE community that saddens me most right now ... ;ó(
I've always have been appreciative to Ms. Sarah Warn for allowing us bi' and lezzies world wide to have a place to call home ...;o) --- so please don't take this post as bein' ungrateful ... rather, I only wish it to "feel" the same I guess ... ;o) perhaps when "Logo" bought AE all things changed ... ? makin' it a lil impersonal and less about a community of people with commonalities ... and more about what Logo wants ... ? dunno - I'm gonna pop in and hope to adjust to all the changes ... ;o)

I share your Forum Lostness. I love the redesign on the rest of the site. Clean and some nifty new features. But I'm still finding my bearings here. Or perhaps I just have no sense of direction. ( Cybill Sheppard was doin' the View and other daytime shows yesterday - promoting the L-word and her appearance in the 4th season - this may account for all the guests in AE right now ... ? cuzz in the coupla years I've been here I've never see so many! ... ;o))
* what I find a bit confusing with the new layout is ... when the thread says there is a new post, I scroll to the bottom of the thread, and sometimes there's no new post, but then after goin' thru' the entire thread top to bottom, I realize that if you "reply" or "quote" to a post, then the newest post doesn't go the the bottom as you might think, but instead goes under the post they were responding to ...
Edit ... just so you don't think I've finally lost it ... I posted this under "Various" too, cuzz there seems to be a few threads discussin' the 'new forum'

Duplicating threads
I think with time, the new layout shouldn't be too difficult to get your head around. In fact, some of the new features are great (buddy lists, posting after articles, etc). For me it's more the fact that the existing threads have become redundant because the posts have been muddled. Sarah suggested a clean up of the threads and starting fresh or, alternatively, just creating a duplicate thread for pre-2007 threads. What do you guys think about that? Personally, I'd prefer duplicating the old threads, rather than deleting the posts completely. Either way, it'll get people posting, in Fun and Games at least. ;)
As with the ordering of the posts, I personally preferred the older system where the new posts were directly sorted to the end of the threads, but I guess that's just another something we have to work with for the time being. :)

Duplicating threads
With every new feature, I feel like I'm getting used to navigating around this version. I have to say, I did agree with the initial Dr's feel of it all, but it's growing on me. The only thing I feel slightly frustrated with is the way the posts are ordered on the page, just as Miss A mentioned. If this can't be helped, perhaps users can be taken directly to the most recent post in the thread like in the old version, instead of having the page load and leaving them at the top to scroll down and look for it.
Also, there were plenty of great discussions and fond memories pre-2007 and it would be a shame to see them go. If it's possible to duplicate the old threads, it would be super.
