Good Gay Quotes?Or rather, good quotes that are gay related and appropriate to put on a bulletin board at a conservative high school? I'm trying to make our GSA board aesthetically pleasing, and I was thinking about putting quotes on the board so people walking by have something more to read than just "GSA" and "NEXT MEETING:" One I am going to put up "Labels are for clothes. Labels are for filing. Labels are not for people."--Martina Navraltilova. Stuff like that. If anyone has quotes like this or anything, that would be fantabulous. Thanks! here's a few...
How about these...
"No. Sexuality is fluid. Whether you're gay or bi or straight, you just go with the flow." -Shane, The L Word
"No government has the right to tell its citizens when or whom to love. The only queer people are those who don't love anybody." -Rita Mae Brown
And in the wake of Prop 8... I have found myself loving this one, from Samuel Adams (the founding father, not the beer guy):
"It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds."
LegallyOut
Caution.
I would advise against using the first quote. It implies sexuality is not innate, but a "lifestyle choice". Not good.
But the other two are very good.
Some of my favs..
So I can only think of Tegan and Sara quotes at the moment, because I admire them in a lot of ways I find a lot of the stuff they say is quite profound but simple.. ok lol...maybe a little obssesed but i cant help it.. heres a few of my favs which i think would be good for the board
Tegan Quin- "When something as hard as love comes this easy, then it really doesn't matter who they are or what they look like or what sex they are."
(Sara talking about what someone at their record company was saying)-‘We want to break you into a different market. We want to show that you’re not just a band that would appeal to those people.’And I was like ‘Don’t talk about it like it’s so bad. Don’t forget I’m one of those people you’re talking about.’ I know how I was born and I know that I have no choice. I know it may not show on the colour of my skin, but I know it’s in my heart and in my soul.”
Sara Quin -"We're overwhelmed with institutionalized homophobia, sexism, racism and classism. Feast on this your whole life and it's no wonder most of us battle to accept who we are." "There is homophobia in every corner and pocket of this world, but at the core ... you just love someone and want to make mixedtapes for them"
Tegan Quin "It's like telling someone your house is totally worth buying, but the only issue is that everyone on the block hates your house because it's the only one on the block with a single-car garage instead of a double. Ignoring the fact that, regardless of how it looks from the outside, yours is filled with the same love, compassion, and values."
Sara: "We're so glad to be doing this tour (true colours tour), and I'm a gaylord and I lord over other gays and I'm happy to be gay..." "Hey girl wanna come over to my house? Cyndi Lauper got me a blender and I'm really good at making mojitos." ...ok maybe not these ones lol..but ya theres just some that i found just now..sorry that was long.. anyways good luck with everything! ps we dont have these GSAs in Canada lol we have rainbow clubs or something i beleive :P
love it :)
I love Tegans quote "When something as hard as love comes this easy, then it really doesn't matter who they are or what they look like or what sex they are." it kind of reminds me what my Daddy has said in the past - "there is no greater power or force in the world than love."
I also love Sarahs quote "I know how I was born and I know that I have no choice. I know it may not show on the colour of my skin, but I know it’s in my heart and in my soul.” That was extremely well put. It sums up the words that I was trying to gather when trying to get prepared to explain these things to my family and friends from home and perhaps the ignorance that I may face from other people too.
I also love this quote that I had seen that was on a banner at Pride and it has always stuck with me:
"Never Be Ashamed of Love. Only Be Ashamed of Hate"
...which is so fitting to hold up to the world to support and show fellow homosexuals that it is not wrong and dont be ashamed, and is like a slap in the face to people do who express homophobia as they are the ones who should truely be ashamed.
Agreed
Saras one is perfectly put, I love having these little sound bites to throw out at people...especially when they say something as thoughtless as "thats so gay"...its like i see that more and more from people around me, and i have to refrain more and more from throwing a shit fit on them lol. That also reminds me of another quote from Sara about how one time at one of their concerts some homophobic dude called them "fucking bitches" and she replied on their myspace "Thank you... (to) that piece of shit who called us fucking bitches in LA. i trained in the art of karate and i swear to god i will fuck you up if i ever see you in person. but with my mind. i hate violence." hahaha .But ya i love that one "Never Be Ashamed of Love. Only Be Ashamed of Hate" , so true. I feel like some oeople are just so concentrated on judging and making other peoples lives hell that they dont realise that they are the ones that are unhappy and that they should just be worrying about themselves.
ps your daddy is awesome ..lol my dads words to my coming out (because I wasnt there when he was told) where "Well...she has good taste!" LMAO, not quite as impactful...

The plague of mankind is the fear and rejection of diversity: monotheism, monarchy, monogamy and, in our age, monomedicine. The belief that there is only one right way to live, only one right way to regulate religious, political, sexual, medical affairs is the root cause of the greatest threat to man: members of his own species, bent on ensuring his salvation, security, and sanity.
