Apathy in LGBT community
It was not that long ago that some lesbians I knew mocked a small group of LGBT activists that purposely were arrested to protest local discrimination. It seemed that an afternoon at the beach was more important than making a stand. These were not 18 year olds, either. They were mature, educated women who should have cared, but didn't. They also were not alone in their thinking.
I kept looking at all the protest rallies in California and thinking that there should be many more people at them. Where were they? At the club on Friday and Saturday nights? I'm sure not all of them were working. Only a few thousand people showed up in L.A.?!! C'mon, that's pathetic considering how many gay people live there.
The national protest on Saturday, Nov. 15 will tell the tale. Will small groups show up around the country, or will everyone take a few hours out of their busy lives to show our true numbers? Are we really committed to changing things, or are we comfortable with the bigoted status quo?
