Best lesbian songs/lyrics?
What are the best songs to make you feel like a TOTAL lesbian when you listen to them?
What lyrics do you like that remind you of girls, crushes, relationships, sex, etc.?
(And please, anything but Katy Perry.)
My favorite right now, ever since that House MD promo with Olivia Wilde, is The Kills' "Cheap and Cheerful" - Alison Mosshart probably isn't gay, but she sings, "I want you to be crazy, 'cause you're boring, baby, when you're straight."
A few others:
Regina Spektor's "Somedays" - "I'm in love with your daughter, I wanna have her baby; I'm in love with your daughter, so can I please?" She sings those words so sweetly it makes me want to cry. She also does a song called "Raindrops" whose first lines are "You don't know, but that's okay; you might find me anyway, don't you know that I belong arm-in-arm with you, baby?" (It doesn't have anything to do with girls explicitly, but it reminds me of a girl I liked.)
Tracy Chapman's "Give Me One Reason" - Need I say more? It's Tracy Chapman. She's got the voice and the soul. And the 'girl, I don't need you' attitude.
Ladytron's "Sugar" - "If I give you sugar, will you give me something elusive and temporary?" Sounds like a fair trade to me, let's do it.
Sleater-Kinney's "Buy Her Candy - "Hey, don't you wanna run and call her name? If I buy her candy, will she know who I am?"
There are a few songs sung by men, too. You know how they're singing about a girl, and you're like "Man, I feel it, too." Those kinds of songs.
Jeff Buckley's "Lover, You Should've Come Over" - "It's never over! My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder... It's never over! All my riches for her smiles when I step so soft against her..." Damn girl problems, make me all teary-eyed.
And the Violent Femmes' "Add It Up". Gordon Gano (lead singer) sounds kind of androgynous, so it creates some solidarity. "Why can't I get just one kiss? Why can't I get just one kiss? Believe me, some things I wouldn't miss, but I look at your pants, and... I need a kiss!" Indeed, I do.
Those are mine. 'Bout you guys? They don't necessarily have to be songs by lesbian musicians. They just have to remind you of your sexuality.
(also, sorry if this isn't in the right forum... it kind of straddles "lesbian/bi musicians" and the general music forum.)
