Proposition 8 Protest Rally

I just got 4 emails on this.......seems like a good way to vent your frustration.

Proposition 8 Protest Rally & Street Closures
Wednesday, November 5th

As deeply disappointed as we all are that California voters passed Proposition 8, we must not allow that disappointment to linger. This vote is a temporary defeat in the long march toward equal rights for all citizens in America.

Please join me for a protest rally tonight at 7 pm on San Vicente Blvd between West Hollywood Park and the Pacific Design Center (647 N. San Vicente Blvd. West Hollywood CA 90069) as we move forward towards restoring equality for all in California.

San Vicente Blvd, between Santa Monica Blvd and Melrose Avenue will be closed tonight starting at 6 pm. San Vicente south-bound traffic will be directed to make left or right at Santa Monica Blvd. Signs have already been posted to help divert traffic.

Last night was AMAZING!

Oh wow. I dont even have words. I was seriosuly devastated when Prop 8 passed. But last night made me realize that everything is going to be okay. Just to see so many people all gathered there for the same cause was unbelievable. Breath taking really.

Yeah i heard about the Protest today but unfortunately couldn not attend because of work.

I hope there are a lot more of these. Until they get the message.

AWESOME

last night was awesome. Don't have a lot of info on today but here is a number that will have some info...

I guess it's at 2pm and will begin and end in the same place as it did last night. The main thing is the protest in front of the Mormon church. It's open to the public today so apparently we are paying them a visit.

Protests...

Something is going on now somewhere in/around LA.

You can watch a live feed on CNN.com now.  Probably on KCAL as well.

Edit: It's near the Mormon Temple in Westwood.

Hm, wonder if we can get something going here in DC to protest in front of the National Mormon Temple.

I didn't know about the protest until I saw it on the news!

I wouldn't have been able to go anyway, but I was pleased to see it.

I also heard that there are a lot of mail in ballots that have not be counted yet.  Does anyone know if they might make a difference?  The last I heard the difference was only about 350,000 votes.

so i somehow missed the memo about last night's demonstration (despite living in weho). but i was stoked to when i heard about today's rally at the mormon temple. fortunately, my office was a couple blocks away, so i walked over during lunch.

amazing experience! fantastic turnout! i had never felt so proud! that was by far the best. lunch-break. ever.

by evening time, the march was passing directly in front of my office. my boss was so impressed that he and his assistant took to the streets!

good turn out all around

Following the passing of Proposition 8, mass protests took place across the state. Santa Monica Boulevard was closed as 1,000 protesters gathered outside a temple of the Mormon Church in Westwood; the LDS (Mormon) Church was a proponent of the proposition.[150] Additionally, demonstrators marched through Hollywood, blocking traffic and forcing police intervention.[151] In Sacramento, the state's capital, nearly one thousand protesters peacefully gathered for a candlelight vigil in front of the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center. 300 more marched through the streets with protest signs.[152] In San Francisco, thousands gathered in front of the City Hall to protest the proposition and to perform a candlelit vigil. Speakers who voiced their opinion in opposition of Proposition 8 included state senator Mark Leno and mayor Gavin Newsom.

Need to keep it up going into the weekend.

News sign ideas

Prop. 8.

is a

REVISION!

not a

AMENDMENT!

In suport of the Three lawsuits were filed the day after the election, challenging the validity of Proposition 8 on the grounds that revoking the right of same-sex couples to marry was a constitutional "revision", rather than an "amendment", and therefore required the prior approval of two-thirds of each house of the California State Legislature.

Protest marches & effective boycotts

This is probably what it's going to take for things to change in the U.S.  We need our own Martin Luther King to become a voice and to unify us.  A well organized and well executed movement across the entire nation is needed.  Are we up to the challenge?

Protest Rally

Man, I wish I could be out there with everyone and show my support. It kills me that I cant get out of this state to help out. **sigh**

But anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone who's been particpating in these rallys. You guys are doing an amazing job and really making a difference.

I'm very proud of all you who have continually shown up, even though the cops are giving you shit. It really shows how strong we are as a community.

Thanks guys ;)

10,000 protest in west hollywood

how amazing is that !! I marched from sunset/santa monica to hollywood/highland, and although it looked like a good turn out I had no idea how huge it was. The best part of the night, was getting past that first police roadblock! The police officers did a wonderful job, and helped with the march when they realized there was no stopping us. After talking to a few cops, i realized theyre just scared Sh*tless, one bad move can turn a peaceful march into a riot. So lets work with them, because theyre more than willing to work with us. keep up the good work!

Maybe this...

I think the best way to get rid of that piece of **** revision that passed is to propose another revision, this time in support of gay marriages.  Now, that one would pass.  And it would give the voters who voted against it (geeze, need I mention specific groups?) a chance to stay frikkin' home.

It would also give the groups even more ammunition that are pursuing legal action against the Mormons and other religions to have their 501's revoked.  Protests don't do any good, I'm sorry to say.  But apparently legal civil actions do.

xxPhoenixx's picture

I agree, civil actions are necessary...but

Protests draw attention to the cause, it sends a message, loud and clear, were not going to take this s--t anymore. And it brings us together, I personally have drawn strength from them and am now leading my own 1 woman protest at work, and in everyday life by not letting them forget  that h8teful prop. I will never let them forget, my family and friend wont either, we cant let up, not until california does the right thing.
