Androgynous ClothingI know that somewhere out there, in the great expanse of land that we call America, there are other women who want men's clothes that fit their body. This was reinforced when I found a post about Sir. Jane - an awesome androgynous clothing line headquartered in Texas. The search for clothes that fit my style (feminine androgynous) has been almost completely fruitless, even living in Seattle. So, I was wondering: Where do you guys find you clothes? Are there any stores that cater to the tomboyish female? Do you have to resort to shopping in the men's section? Are there men's sections that actually fit well? What are the secrets to adding well-fitting, gender neutral clothes to your wardrobe? Submitted by Decafontherocks (2 posts) on October 12, 2008 - 10:26pm. |

Androgynous Clothing
I tend to have the same problem.
I am petite, men's clothing do not fit me at all, but I have a fairly androgynous style. Last year I stole some clothing off of my ten year old brother but I do not see much of a draw to looking like a pre-teen boy on a regular basis.
I do not like shopping so I do not have any good advice for you. It really depends on what style of clothing you are looking for also.
it depends
it depends on your body type! :]
like me for instance, I'm short and stocky/muscular (5"3, 125). if you're taller and thinner, then guys clothes will fit you better.
I go to American Eagle... the pants fit horribly, as do most guys pants, but the shirts are good. the XS size fits me just right. :]
Old Navy and Target have some stylish gender-neutral stuff in the women's section. like at Target, I got some cool Converse shirts and stuff that weren't totally femme or anything. :]
i totally know what you mean
i TOTALLY know what you mean. wearing androgynous clothing has always been very important to me too, but it's more than a little difficult to find masculine women's clothing, and i'm way too petite (5'5" 115, with really small shoulders and a small chest) to wear men's clothing.
i've had a great amount of luck shopping in the women's section at Ross (a GREAT discount clothing store), as they have a wide variety of clothes in a good range of sizes, and tend to have more gender-neutral and sporty clothes than any other place i shop.
Target is always an option, but they can be hit and miss. thrift stores/Goodwill/etc. can have great finds hiding on their racks, but again, hit and miss.
i used to really love Old Navy (and still like them a lot), but their clothing has gotten waay too femmy over the past couple years.
a really good place i've found recently is the boys section at abercrombie (the youth analog to Abercrombie & Fitch). their boys dress shirts fit me PERFECTLY, and they have a great selection of t-shirts, polos, jackets, long-sleeve shirts, sweaters (the color selection varies - they're heavy on navy blue), etc. i haven't tried their pants, but everything else i've seen there i like. the downside is they're expensive, but their stuff is so cool and androgynous it can often make up for the price.
hope that helps!

Androgynous Clothes
I'll definitely check this stuff out. Especially since we have the same height, weight and body type. Which is kinda weird. But convenient.
Anyway, you guys totally rock. Maybe someday they'll make a clothing line for people like us. Someday.
But until then, men's departments, classic women's clothes, and our little brothers stuff will have to suffice.
Hey everyone! I've actually
Hey everyone! I've actually just recently started up an androgynous clothing line. Right now we are offering designed t-shirts but will be adding more as time comes. Check it out and let me know what you think! www.unboundapparel.com
I've had the same probably as everyone else, which is why I started this line. it's about time someone did something like this! I always shop in the mens or little boy's department but it's frustrating when it doesn't fit correctly. So, my goal is to eventually offer tailored clothing that both men and women can wear.
