I saw it on opening night as well and I thought it was brilliant. I don't have as strong a distaste for religion as Bill Maher does, but I pretty much agreed with all he said. And even if I didn't, I'm glad he was asking the questions.
Faith and religion are all about in believing in uncertainty and I think many of the people he interviewed are so entrenched in their beliefs that they put certainty in that is not there. I particularly like that he went outside the U.S. to get a broader sense of religion in the world. It's crazy to see that religion can be so two-sided - that it can both heal and harm.
I grew up in a church where we prayed every week for an end to racism, sexism, and homophobia. And to see these injustices justified in the name of religion always baffled me. I'm glad that someone is finally asking questions.
Nobody objects to a woman being a good writer or sculptor or geneticist if at the same time she manages to be a good wife, good mother, good-looking, good-tempered, well-groomed, and unaggressive. - Leslie M. McIntyre
I was already a huge Maher fan so I had to see it. I grew up in UCC which is famous for being gay friendly and all that so I was never taught the whole kind of prejudiced side of religoun but I still dont necessarily identify it. Im glad there is this movie so it normalizes my agnosticim. Now its less of a thing to look your nose down on.
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice anywhere. Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

and i thought it was great! It had its moments as far as hilarity go and besides that i thought it was a well thought out documentary. I'm not much of a chur-goer but i was mostly raised christian. I'm not an athiest. I do believe in God but i don't believe in the bible or organized religion if that makes sense? Well anyways I just thought it was a very intelligent and entertaining movie and i'm trying to get my friends and family to watch it now : )
great movie! bill asked some great questions although he rarely let others give their full (sometimes deranged) answer. i especially loved the priest outside the vatican. WOW
I saw that some time ago. It was ok, I agree with most of what was said. I thought the ending could have been better and the ends tied up a bit more, it seemed like it fell apart during that last portion. But besides that, thumbs up! And LOL at Jesus at Holy Land, I've driven past that place a few times and it never ceases to elicit a chuckle.I always wondered what the rides are like in there - I imagine Noah's Ark plays a role...
Great film
