"Coming Out in High School" thread
"Coming Out in High School" thread- http://www.afterellen.com/node/34687
Go to the link and see if any of the responses could help you.
Presentation.....
Try to, at least initially, take yourself out of it – just report your findings. What is it exactly that is good/bad about being gay in high school? What is the most important thing you are trying to get across to your audience? Are you trying to convey that homophobic attitudes still exist, the importance of gay alliances at schools, etc.? What exactly do you or don’t you agree/disagree with in regards to being gay in high school?
I’d start with an outline – once you have that, you’re basically done; the rest is just filling in the blanks.
For example:
(Shoddy outline, but you get the gist)
Ask yourself, why is your presentation important?
Who is your audience?
Who will it benefit?
What are you trying to get across to the audience?
In a nutshell, what is the purpose or intent of your presentation?
What do you hope to come or get across from your presentation?
At the end, bring in something personal that may have occurred to you (positive or negative – and of course, only if you are out or are willing to come out at school), which will make the presentation that much more interesting and meaningful. Draw parallels which the straight individuals can relate to so they don’t feel totally ostracized and/or defensive.
Good luck!
Include the diversity of the gay experience
Just an idea,
Most think of the gay experience only from media stereotypes... You may want to include the diversity of the gay community, you never know, there may be a young gay muslim student (just an example) who never knew he or she could connect...
But caution, I don't know where you are writing from and I am immensely proud of you, but consider your environment and be safe...
THANK YOU
Thank you all so much thats exactly what i needed to hear got my creative juices flowing. Thanks Again
