So You Think You Can Dance mini-cap: six couples shake it
There are six remaining couples. Two more dancers go home tonight. I’ve moved beyond the ice cream. That’s right, it’s time for the heavy stuff: chocolate.
The guest judge last night was my TV girlfriend Mia Michaels. She looks stunning in a soft butch kinda way with a hat tilted rakishly over one eye and a blouse that slides off her shoulder.

Chelsie and Mark are up first, with a sexy salsa. Lythgoe thought they were terrific and Murphy called Chelsie “beautiful dynamite.” (Uh, that’s good, right?) Michaels went on and on about Chelsie’s beauty, ending with, “I wanna stab you, you’re so gorgeous.” (That’s Mia-speak for "I have run out of words to express how beautiful you are.")

Comfort finally gets to dance in her genre, hip-hop, and with partner Thayne, she does a fairly good job. Much ado is made about Thayne’s smile, but he looks pretty fierce through most of this routine. The judges weren’t impressed, though, with Lythgoe commenting that they’d probably be in the bottom three.

Jessica and Will dance a contemporary piece by Tyce Jessica says she feels strong when she dances it and whoa — I thought she was a great dancer before, but she tops herself this time. The dance is hot and sexy and gorgeous and I can’t believe you can show something like that on network TV. Lythgoe calls it extremely erotic, Murphy blushes and screams, and Michaels calls it “perfect moving body art.” Amen, pass the chocolate.

Anya Garnis and Pasha Kovalev, two former contestants, are back to choreograph a cha cha for Courtney and Gev. It’s a great routine for them and the judges agree, with Murphy repeating "cha cha cha cha" so many times I’m wondering if she has a stutter. Cat Deeley asks Gev if he shaved his chest for tonight and he admits he did. Afterwards is a discussion about his chest hair. Ew.

Lil’ C puts together a crump routine for Kherington and Twitch. I love me some Kherington but it’s clear she has trouble with this gritty dance style. Twitch was brilliant. Lythgoe screws up his face like he’s gonna turn green and bust out of his clothes and comments to Kherington that the first part of the dance was good, but the last sixteen measures, not so great. The other judges agree. They feel differently about Twitch with Michaels saying his part was was dirty, disgusting, and ugly (Mia-speak for wonderful.)

Katee and Joshua are up next with a Viennese waltz to, oddly, the Goo Goo Dolls. Her beautiful gown and smooth steps seem at odds with the music. There’s a lot of lifts that they do well, but the choreography is strange, with too many different styles in one routine. The judges think it was too bouncy and choppy, although Lythgoe thought Katee had lovely lines.
Chelsie and Mark do their second dance, a sultry Broadway number to “I’m a Woman” and girl howdy, it makes me press my thighs together. I love how the woman is in charge here (which is too infrequent in these routines). The judges love it, although Lythgoe says he’s not sure about Chelsie’s sexy costume matching the song lyrics about being in the kitchen. Deeley replies that maybe you don’t need to cook in a kitchen. At that point, I want to marry Deeley and make her mine forever. Michaels will have to wait.
Comfort and Thayne attempt contemporary choreography by Mandy Moore, and while Thayne looks great dancing in his genre, Comfort looks, well, uncomfortable. Murphy said they weren’t believable and I agree.
Jessica and Will blast through a quick step and while it starts out with some of Will’s explosive back flips, it doesn’t really cut it. The judges think their steps are too heavy and Michaels is extra sharp with Jessica, telling Will that he needs to get a new partner. (Mia, I’m disappointed in you but then, I’m with Cat now so it doesn’t matter.)
Mandy Moore does another routine, this one for Courtney and Gev. It’s a sexy number using a map as a prop. Their characters are believable and fun. Michaels says they are one of her top couples.
Kherington and Twitch offer a smooth tango that is supposed to be the story of two murderers but sadly, lacks in drama. Lythgoe says they look uncomfortable and Michaels says they look uncommitted.
Last are Katee and Joshua with a really great Bollywood number. It’s cute that they don’t know what the style is at first but you can’t tell in their presentation. There’s not a shred of uncertainty in what they do. It’s a style that looks like a wild melding of African, bellydance, hip-hop and Russian folk. Katee is wearing a stunning beaded bra and short flowing skirt that looks really great on her and with some of the bellydance-like moves that she makes. They both do some really fierce turns on their knees.

The judges like having an art form not often seen on American TV with Lythgoe commenting that he wishes the world would come together like this and not what we’re doing at the moment. (Amen brother.) Michaels tells Katee she needs to dress like that every day of her life. Me thinks Micheals would like a pretty dancing girl to visit her. (Hey! I own a beaded bra but then, oh never mind.)
The closing scene with everyone dancing is always fun to watch and this time is no exception with lots of the girls pairing up for a little dosey doe (Deeley with Katee — yeow!) and at the end, three of the girls with their arms around each other, bouncing to the beat.
Performing tonight is Katy Perry singing “I Kissed a Girl” (no, not the Jill Sobule hit but still, I’m looking forward to it). The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater is also appearing. And, of course, two dancers will go home. One will most certainly be Comfort but who else? I’m gonna need a whole lot of chocolate for tonight’s show. How about you?
