Seeking Participants - Women with Ink Art Photography Book

We are not asking you for photos of your tattoos. This book is not a compilation of tattoo photos.

The premise behind our book is to explore, photographically, the sheer variety of women from all walks of life who are getting tattoos, the types of tattoos they are getting (number, size, style, position) and also to give voice to their thoughts on ink. The aim of the project is to produce an art photography book with thematically and stylistically unified photographs accompanied by some text. The intention is to take 2 photographs of each woman that will stand in juxtaposition i.e. one studio-based photograph and one taken on location out-and-about.

A good proportion of the books currently available on women and their tattoos lean more towards glamour photography, stylistically speaking, and concentrate primarily on heavily-inked women. In contrast, I am a professional photographer, trained at art college, and am approaching the project from the portrait photography tradition. Projects like this are fluid and organic and can change and develop as they move forward. The exact nature of the final outcome is usually an unknown which is what makes it such a wonderful experience.

That's really interesting. I would love to be a part of your project; however, I will only be in the UK in September. Is there any way that you will still be interested then?

I recently got into tattooing. I was always fascinated by it but was never sure what to get done. I studied books and looked on-line; I even spoke to some well respected tattoo artists in Portland and NY, but could never make my mind up about the design. Eventually I decided to design it myself, and approached an artist in Israel (where I live) to help with the final touches.

It's a work in progress, and I've only just started. The tattoo tells my story, about things that I've been through, but can also be interpreted by anyone to any thing that is meaningful to them. By September I should have a significant amount of it done, and will continue "telling my story" until it is over (hopefully a long time from now).

It is not a large tattoo. I only plan on getting my arms done, and maybe my ankles - if I run out of room.
