so cal

So in July I will be in the Southern Cali area. More specifically San Diego. I was thinking of going to a bar or two to experience the cali scene. Any advice for a college age bar? Or at least where should I stay away from and how expensive are the drinks really there?

gay marriage

Hey i hope some one on here can answer this for me. My girl and i live in Virginia and thinking about visiting Cali to get married. Just wondering what are the laws their now for people out of state coming to Cali just to get married.

a note or two ...

Firstly - don't rush here just yet. While the court has declared the ban to be unconstituational, there most likely will be another "anti-gay-marriage" ammendment on the ballot in November. Which means that we may not have it for long... in which case, I'm not sure if marriages performed in the time between now and then would be voided or not.

Secondly, they haven't posted requirements yet ... BUT ... i would expect, when they do, they'll have a model similar to Massachusetts' ... where you must be a resident of the state for at least year (with a permanent state address) before you can get married.

My two cents on this, is if you really want to get married, run on up to Canada. Or wait will after November.

I wouldn't do that just

I wouldn't do that just yet. First off, as the previous poster mentioned, it can still be vetoed in November. Secondly, depending on where you live (I don't know about the laws of Virginia, but I doubt they're too progressive) you may not be entitled to benefits once you leave California. Lastly, it may be easy to get married there, but much harder to get divorced - some states that currently have civil unions require one partner to live in that state for at least 6 months before filing for divorce. They're just things to keep in mind before you off and marry.

so cal

yeah..the two people above me are right..and cali will NOT be accepting gay marriages from other states between the window of marriage so it wouldnt be prudent to come here unfortunately.

San Diego ...

Hi Lisa -

I'm not a resident of San Diego, but I've been down there quite a bit. if you're looking for a college-age bar ... La Jolla will be your best bet (by the UCSD campus) ... but La Jolla also tends to be expensive.

Here's a link for gay bars in/around San Diego down town ...

Depending on WHEN in July you'll be there, pride is July 19th and 20th ... and I definitely recommend going if you can ... San Diego has a great pride festival and parade ... it's *my* personal favorite in Southern California.

Even if you can't go to pride, I'm sure the week before will be a buzz in terms of nightlife.

Hope this helps, and have fun!!!

san diego bars

i just moved away from San Diego a few months ago.  If you're looking for gay bars, there's plenty in the Hillcrest area.  Hillcrest is the gay area of San Diego.  It's a strip of University from Park Ave to 4th Ave.  It's fun to go out in the area and then get food at La Fuentes or Taste of Italy.  As far as dance clubs go, the Flame or Numbers are more likely to have ladies nights. The Alibi is a cute divey bar. There's also a new bar called Universal on University near 5th Ave.  i hear it's great.

i can't really think of any college-age bars, but the gas lamp area(downtown) has great bars like the Star Bar and Shout House, which are fun and not too expensive.  and, of course, you could always go to a bar in tijuana.  good times.  damn, now i'm homesick....

"what kind of rat bastard psychotic would play that song right now at this minute?"
