Ted Kennedy has a brain tumor :(I'm so devestated. He's such a great man and a champion for the rights of the underserved. I hope they can treat this, sometimes they can successfully. I hope it's in a "good" part of his left parietal lobe, closer to the surface and not on any thing vital. I guess his seizure was a blessing in disguise because at least he can be treated now, before it gets larger. BOSTON — Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor, his doctors said today. The doctors for the Massachusetts Democrat said tests conducted after Kennedy suffered a seizure this weekend show a tumor in his left parietal lobe. His treatment will be decided after more tests but the usual course includes combinations of radiation and chemotherapy.
The 76-year-old senator has been hospitalized in Boston since Saturday, when he was airlifted from Cape Cod after a seizure at his home. Submitted by The Emperor Has... (564 posts) on May 20, 2008 - 12:36pm. |

I saw this earlier today.
Senator Kennedy
It's quite sad eh? He is an incredible human being, brilliant political figure, definitely one of this community's greatest political allies. Hope he's back on his feet soon, I know many people's thoughts are with him.
It's sad
But I think we should have high hopes that he will survive this. The media is making me upset because they are acting like he is dead. People have survived brain tumors who weren't Lance Armstrong.
Fighting the Good Fight
The reverance I feel for this man and his family just can't be qualified in any legitimate way, so I won't (plus, I'd bore you all endlessly with my Kennedy stories)...but sufficed to say, I'm sending prayers and positive thoughts to Sen. Kennedy, his lovely wife and their entire family.
If there was anyone capable of defying the odds, though, it's Teddy Kennedy. I look forward to seeing him returning to the Senate and fighting the good fight...

I feel bad for his family, not him
I disagree
A murderer is someone who kills someone on purpose. If you want to say he committed involuntary manslaughter fine but please get your facts straight about what makes someone a murderer because right now you're spreading false information. Also, saying you feel bad for his family but think justice is being served bothers me. It's a cold hearted statement to make at this time and it just seems kind of unnecessary to say. It sounds like something Fox news would say and I don't mean that as a compliment either
Ted Kennedy left Mary Jo in
Ted Kennedy left Mary Jo in a submerged car. Instead of calling police immediately, he waited until the NEXT DAY. Some fisherman noticed the car the next day and they called the police. She was found near an air pocket, and it is estimated that she possibly lived for a few hours waiting for help. He purposely left her there. His only concern was how it was going to affect him and his political career. In legal terms it might not be called murder, but that's what it is. He killed her by his cowardly inaction.
Also, I never said I thought justice was being served. I said Mary Jo's family probably thinks it is. If justice had been served, he would have been ruined politically. He would have gone to prison. Instead, he has gone on to a great career. I can't help but feel Mary Jo's family has cried many bitter tears for literally decades, while he has partied on and lived a good, long life.
I still disagree
It's not murder. It's involuntary manslaughter. Look up the definition of murder and involuntary manslaughter. Two different things. Also, since you don't know him personally, how can you judge that he doesn't have remorse every day for her death. Also, it's not fair to who ever posted this topic to hijack her thread to discuss something that has nothing to do with the topic. I still think you are wrong for saying what you did and I don't think you fully understand what I'm saying. You're calling someone a murderer when he isn't. I doubt you would tell his family that you think he is a murderer especially at this time. So why post it here is my point.
I know the definitions of
I know the definitions of both murder and manslaughter. As I said, legally it is not considered murder. However, I would guess that most people who have done their research on this incident believe that morally there is little difference. She died as a direct result of his actions--running away and leaving her to drown after he crashed his car.
I understand exactly what you are saying. I just feel differently, and that's o.k. Also, this thread is about Ted Kennedy. I'm posting about Ted Kennedy.
I still don't think you get it
Also, I noticed you didn't say whether you would say this to his family. This thread is about him having brain cancer. Not about whether you think he is a murderer when he isn't. I know the case. Why else would I say it's involuntary manslaughter if I didn't? I'm done discussing this but I'm insulted that you are judging my moral position. Anything else you have to say just send me a private message. I'm going to respect the person who started this thread.
I really hope that when your
I am actually a very
I am actually a very compassionate person. I didn't wish this on Ted Kennedy, but I do have much disgust at how he has escaped justice for such a horrible act. Think of Mary Jo and how long it took her to die. Drowning is not a pleasant way to go. How long did she wait in that air pocket, assuming he was going for help?
He actually has a chance of not dying of this. It's not good, but it's still there. I don't wish him dead. I don't wish anyone dead. What I wish is that he had faced the real consequences for his crime, instead of getting away with it because he's a Kennedy.
I just think that even
I just think that even though Kennedy could have done more at the time, the onus of what you say is him getting away with murder (to which I disagree) isn't on him but on those who allowed it and a preinternet/youtube/24-7 news.
I think one can still hate the situation at Chappaquidick and still have compassion for the man and recognize all the good he has done for the country.
Jeez, you don't even know
*sadness*
I was so incredibly saddened when I heard that he had fallen ill a few days ago and was rushed to hospital. Now the news today of the brain tumor. :( My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Teddy is such a great man who has done so much for this country. He understands that there is still so much more progress to be made and has continually fought for the civil rights of all americans, including gays and lesbians.
He actually was in the process of pushing 3 bills forward that affect the GLBT community.
